I know this isn't a corbin attraction, but, in this case, it doesn't matter.
Located at the Middlesboro Airport, a local man there paid to have a WWII P-38 Lightning airplane removed from the polar ice cap, intact, and brought back to Middlesboro to be totally restored. It's an awesome site to see. There are pictures showing various stages of the restoration, a small gift shop, and the plane of course.
Just looking at this amazing restoration makes you think of the sacrifice our vetrans have made, and also the dwindling number of WWII vets in our midst.
Head up Hwy 25 toward Barbourville, on to Pineville, and past pineville to Middlesboro. Follow the signs.
Thanks for the suggestion. We need to promote all of these kinds of attractions in our region. When you put all of these things together it makes a strong package for people to visit our area.
You can learn about the P-38 airplane if you go to a website: www.thelostsquadron.com The plane was sold and taken to San Antonio, TX. You can read the whole story on this website.
