You're still here, in spite of the weekly wanting it taken down......

I'm surprised you haven't packed up your website and moved on. The weekly papers editor said it should be taken down due to the negative attitude it projects on the city of corbin and it's development. How dare you NOT comply with his wishes.

Strange how that editor couldn't handle the criticism of him and his committee.  He wanted this site taken down huh, wonder how he would feel if someone wanted to take down his paper, then I'm sure he'd be crying to the ACLU.

You'd think he had tougher skin.

He's sure not afraid to slam his competing paper and their staff, but he can't handle some comments about him and his paper and his tourism committee, or the folks on other committees.

When you agree to serve on a public committee, then you better be accountable to all those around you who's money your responsible for. If you can't stand the heat, get off the committee.

I read the editorial from Estep about taking this site down.  I could imagine the fire in his eyes as he wrote it. I could see him saying "how dare they be critical of me and my paper".  SO, maybe that's why we rarely see any type of investigative reporting from that paper (we've seen some, but not enough compared to the politics of this area), they are to busy being everyone's friend.  It seems at least every other week he is critical of the daily paper, and they have nothing to say about his paper or him.  Could he be afraid of that paper and its staff.  If he and his paper spent their time reporting and digging for stories, then they wouldn't have to worry about the competition.

I guess he's against everything and everyone that doesn't agree with him or his ideas or his convictions.

Still here???????????????

The weekly's editor must be losing his touch.

I'm sure he thought you would have cowed down and shut down the site. I'd say we won't read anymore about it on his page. I think he realizes now he just fueled the fire even hotter.

I don't think its Terry so much - he actually has a pretty good sense of humor and would never let people who disagree with him or the little stuff phase him or get under his skin.

Maybe not, but, it's well known he owns the paper, and the attitude and personality of the paper is reflected back onto him, so, that said, HE is the paper.

I like the way you don't get all riled up when the News Journal takes their shots at you. You keep your cool and go on and keep operating a very good website.

You don't take criticism of you and your dad off the website when you or your dad are given a hard shot.  That is the mark of class. Keep up the good work.  It was very nice to see that Samantha and Les responded to the comments made about the Times Tribune. Your website is getting great attention in this area.

Ditto with the last poster.

Samantha and Les have given your site credibility and validity.  They are professional enough to recognize the magnatude of this site.

I doubt that Estep will ever reply here, he hasn't the intestinal fortitude to do so. He can sit on his soap box and chide the value of Fletcher, but won't respond to the working class and their concerns with Corbin issues.  It also seems he forgot much of our money for area projects came from democratic governors too.

Have you noticed how much we are communicating on ways to improve our community? We are getting some good responses from many sources. It looks to me as if this website is bringin us together. Sure, we debate and don't always agree with each other.  But it is better to discuss disagreements than to let them fester and get worse. I have also noticed since the News Journal has written some critical article about the administrator of the website the traffic keeps getting bigger and bigger. And the lady's article Wednesday just focused more good visability on this website.

While the detractors of the website get frantic with panic, Bob, Jr. justs keeps his cool.

I may not be one of the oldest, or most wise in the community, but at 19 years old I know when to keep my mouth shut. The article in the Times was apalling, and I couldn't believe such behavior from one of our "fine leaders." To me, being a good business person/community leader is knowing your faults, and knowing how to improve them. This website has done nothing but give Corbin great ideas. If Mr. Estep would sit down and read the suggestions in these forums, he would be brilliant! If he really is the community leader he thinks he is, he should grow up and apologize to Mr. Terrell.

Estep is one of the original "sad 6" of Corbin. You know, the ones who you used to see together and trying to figure a way to do nothing but still get paid for it by manipulating the issues. Self proclaimed leaders...not elected. BTW, virtually every restaraunt that the sad 6 frequented over the past 20 years, lost their customers and closed...hmmm. The only reason anyone even tolerates Estep is due to him being employed by Mr Forcht. If Mr Forcht knew how arrogant and intolerant Estep has become, Mr Forcht would call him in for a little "image makeover".

Every Wednesday I look at a News Journal at a local restaurant(I am not subscribed to it any more) to see what is said about you. I keep thinking the big bosses are going to run you out of town. You don't walk away from the heat, and I admire you for standing tall. Keep it up. More and More people are now realizing what you have been going through and we admire you.

Reading your post brings tears to my eyes. This is a great website and I am glad to see you feel that way, too. A group of us were talking this week about the fact this would be a good TV show. The name of the series could be, "This is my show, get away from my table." It could be about one of the world's greatest journalists and how he actually runs not only the newspaper but the entire world.

Out of all the people across the world he is the only one given any wisdom. All the other people of the world are wrong and he is right.
This should not be a miniseries but should be a one hour show seven days a week. The poster above should be in the show because you can see how great an actor or actress that person is.
Thanks so much for your outstanding recommendation.

It's what isn't said that interests me most on this list. I'm not here to uphold or to criticize anyone. Each has a right to an opinion. But, from what I have read, I fail to see how "we are communicating on ways to improve our community." It looks more like we are ridiculing others and running them into the ground. I could be wrong, but I always thought that communicating to improve the community would be offering suggestions and ideas and then working together for the good of all. How do complaints and criticism improve the community? And saying what he aughta' do and what she aughta' do?
The individual who seems to think that Mr. Forcht is not knowledgeable about the person running his newspaper may be a bit naive in his thinking. I am certain Mr. Forcht is well aware of everything taking place in his business. As long as he is making money off that newspaper, I doubt he will see the necessity for an 'image makeover'. Also, why is it that the only reason people tolerate Mr. Estep is because he is employed by Mr. Forcht? Does he (Forcht) have a magic charm? I hate to think that the only reason anyone tolerated me was because of who my boss was!!! What a sad world that would be. Clue me in--who are the "sad 6 of Corbin"?
I assure you that politics doesn't interfere with Estep and Forcht's relationship as businessmen. Besides, I've never seen any problems solved by biased political opinions.
Someone please tell me what great suggestions have been made on this forum? I seem to have overlooked them. It is clear that all the leaders of the committees and commissions should be run out of town. I sure would hate to walk in the Corbin leaders' shoes!!! It's pretty obvious, they never do anything right! All of the other upright, humble citizens should be running the show. My question is: Why weren't those upright citizens put in the chairpersons' positions in the first place? Sounds like that would be the answer. BTW, don't take offense when I add that "out of all the people across the world HE ISN'T the only one given any wisdom." I think I have the answer to that one.
Someone suggested that Mr. Estep should read the suggestions on this forum, and he would be brilliant. I tried reading them, and so far, I don't feel brilliant. What did I miss?
BTW, harsh words don't make you a good actor. You have to know how to act!

a. Many people feel that they have no voice in the things that go on here.  For example, as you know, we have a Governor's race going on and Governor Fletcher was invited to speak at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon in September. He got a freebie to give a partisan political speech, and his opponent, Steve Beshear did not get invited to give his message for our area.
b. Many of us are not complaining about Terry Forcht. But his publisher can take the liberty of scathing in an editorial the person who provides this website.
Not only that, two different Tourism meetings included his criticism of this same person who was not even present at the first meeting to defend himself.
c. The second meeting was covered in both newspapers by the message was somewhat different. Those who were present were shocked at the way Mr. Estep talked. It was not reported in either paper but the Chairman's last comment was to call Bob Terrell, Jr. an a_ _hole and to get out of there because this is my show!(Estep's show)  How you can defend that is beyond comprehension.
d. As long as people keep their mouths shut, don't speak up, accept everything a few bosses want to do, and timidly comply, bow, and kiss their rings things will be just fine. Some of the people here don't intend to kiss their butts.

I don't think this website is all about criticism of all of our leaders. I think we all understand that we do have several good leaders in Corbin, but alot of them are intimidated by the powers that be. This website IS about the people of Corbin being able to voice their concerns about our dissatisfaction with the way some things in Corbin are going, and have gone for years. We want positive leaders out there working to bring jobs into Corbin, and supporting smart ideas, instead of knocking people down, and ruling by their egos rather than what's best for the area. And, if you haven't read any good suggestions on this forum, then obviously you haven't read much of it.

I think the people who see this website as a negative are only those who do not support positive change in Corbin. Of course constructive criticism and communication are our only ways to making things better. But our leaders have to be open to opinions and ideas. And their adversion to this website shows, they don't want to hear opinions or differing ideas.

You confuse me. Aren't the current leaders the powers that be? Why would they be afraid of themselves? If I'm wrong, then enlighten me as to who exactly the powers to be are. Name some names. Otherwise you are just blowing a lot of smoke.

I can just tell you right now that you are in a huge minority if you are upset with the current political leadership in corbin. Most people are satisfied with the progress. Since you air most of your complaints here, I assume you are probably not someone the leaders deem worthy of listening to for one reason or another.

Hey everyone, this person is speaking for the the majority - lets hear it for our new majority spokesperson, who says everything is just peachy in lala land.

I believe most of our leaders ran for a similar reason - they wern't happy with the progress of our town and wanted to make things better - at least that should have been their reason - I know it was McBurneys. I doubt that any of our leaders are happy with the status quo - at least I would hope not. Look around at other cities who are bringing in jobs, new business, and cleaning up their towns. We have lost more business in the past two years than we have brought in. Cumberland Falls highway is a disaster, and now that we have lost the car dealership and its tax revenue, we have another eyesore to add to the old drive-in and other unkept properties. Maybe you are happy with the way things are, but I think they can be better, especially if I want my kids to even think of staying here beyond college. I think you have it reversed. You are in the minority.
