Football is now behind Basketball and Soccer in Corbin

Looks like Soccer has moved ahead of football to take over 2nd place. Thanks to the teams' recent but steady success, the basketball program is now expected to finish at the top of its region and is considered . The soccer program is improving steadily but the football program, although there are high hopes for this year-"as usual", seems to have peaked about 3 decades ago. This is not a bad thing, so all of the former Redhound football "greats" should not throw away their letterman jackets...they can wear them to the soccer and basketball games and still show their support. Times change...sorry, old schoolers.

Why do we have to compete between Redhound Sports.  Football has been King but now parents want healthy sports for lean, muscular kids.  Soccer makes strong ,lean boys and girls.  Football is too seditary.  Maybe they can work on that.

I DONT KNOW WHERE THE LAST POST GETS HIS INFO.  fOOTBALL MAKES STRONGER BOYS THAN SOCCER.  iTS JUST OUR COACHES.  i DO THINK THAT SOCCER IS GETTING MANY OF THE BEST ATHLETES WHO COULD BE RUNNING BACKS OR DEFENSIVE BACKS.8822

Why did 350 kids sign up for youth soccer and only 120 for fall football?  the answer is soccer is more fun.  also parenst like the running for kids who sit around too much.

Just as dishwater gets stale, so too have our football coaches (some). You cant motivate kids to play football when they have heard from other kids (who have quit) to expect or endure screaming, cursing, belittling etc... From what Ive seen...the basketball and soccer programs seem to appreciate having the oppurtunity to coach the kids.

Soccer seems to be geared more for athletes and not sweat hogs.  also, the little league programs allows stacked teams that has discouraged kids from playing.  It simply is not fun to get your head beat in by teams that are given all the players.

You are 100% correct. Basketball is King now and can you imagine if the runnin redhounds win the region this year and the football hounds fizzle out like previous years...they wont be warming up the bus, they will try to throw the coach under it.

If the feeder programs are not run correctlly the high school team cannot excel.

Exactly right about the feeder programs. A perfect example on how not to run your feeder program...have what kids that didnt choose to play soccer and let them play at Lynn Camp's field. Wow, I know that would really make me dream of playing for the Redhounds later on in the not so distant future, NOT!

In many ways, CHS sports mirrors the University of KY's sportsfans' expectations now. We expect our basketball team to win the vast majority of its games and compete for a region title every year. We are beginning to have the same expectations for baseball. We see our soccer program growing and being a region contender. Our girls basketball program has been a top region contender since coach Parsons took over. Our cheerleading program is very competitive and does wonderful in competitions with a coach that all the girls seem to love. But...our expectations for football have dropped to hope for a winning season, instead of being THE team to beat. It's okay though, UK was a football school too before a guy by the name of Rupp changed all that.

Why cant the teams play at the high school practice field?

the only explaination possible is that soccer is not as important as football.

I know that soccer shouldnt play at the football field, I'm asking why the youth football cant play at the football field or even at the practice field.  Are the youth football kids not important..Why do they have to play at Lynn Camp.?

The football coaches must have decided that the future highschool football players who are now participating in rec league, would be more motivated to play in High School if they get to play at somewhere other than Corbin's own field now. If letting the youth play on the CHS field causes a little extra maintenance on the field, so be it. There is surely no reason why the youth couldnt play on the field on Saturdays...the day following a home game or at least on the CHS practice field. When next years numbers for football drop again, maybe a light will pop on in the coach's head.

Football shouldn't be ahead or behind. All school athletic programs should be supported equally. They all fall under Corbin High School Athletics with the same director.

One poster mentioned the drop in numbers of football players. That's true in almost every high school in America. I played at Corbin in the 60's under Ledger Howard and Mel Chandler. There wasn't then or now two meaner coaches alive, but we played because we loved football. When the season was over, we were allowed to be kids again with some wieght training in the winter. Come July we were at it again. In this day, kids have to WORK at being a football player year round. In middle school, they play as many games as most colleges do. By the time they become freshmen, they could care less if they ever see another football, much less bust thier tails in 100 degree heat to sit the bench until they're juniors. The answer is simple: Let them be kids in the offseason. Give them time to be kids. Some work out, but not to the point of being a chore. After all, how many will go beyond the high school level?

The last post makes a good point. Football is just not fun anymore. Also, there are just too many  other things for kids to do today, from abundant jobs to cars to hacking on computers to think that busting heads is a fun thing to do.

I would like to know why the soccer team can't play on a field thats owned by the school.

its time to stop talking about negative parts of football.  Next week we play the Pigskin and should get a win.  Dunbar lost all their games last year.  This will be a big step for us.  We should get a win and then we can build on it.

This was quote I wanted.  I want this poster to tell me why soccer shouldn't pla on field.

I agree, this is a big step for us if we can beat a team that didn't win a game last year. What we need to do is to take baby steps

Let's go Redhounds! I will support our football team even if they don't win. I am not a fair weather fan.

I wonder what everyone would think if basketball all of a sudden told volleyball they could no longer use their court.  Come on people its 2007 not 1960's.  The soccer and youth football should be allow to use high school football field.  This is ridiculous.

I must have missed the part about soccer moving ahead of football, where was that written.

When you start having people show up to watch soccer other than moms and dads or relatives, you'll have something.

Who says they are stronger athletes, fat doesn't mean stronger.  the post before are exactly right on fitness.  Just because you are fat and hard to move doesn't mean you are stronger.

While Basketball is out front, soccer has passed football in the sense of player participation. Its just a matter of time when football loses a few more players each and every year to soccer that the fans at the football games will be just parents and family too. The only way to reverse the inevitable, win! Why are we not winning football games, is it the players or coaches, hmmm, I believe in general, that we have bigger, stronger, faster kids today than at anytime in the past. Okay, it must be the coaches. If we dont make a change then we can expect the same results year in, year out. The stats dont lie.
