Which committee was over the Rodeo last week, and why was there no concessions?

Anyone know which of the official committees was in charge of the Rodeo last week.  Tourism, Econ Development?

And, that said, why was there no concessions set up for it.  That was a big mistake.  Which ever committee was responsible for the event, should have made sure there was some kind of concessions there.

Anyone know.

THE RODEO WAS NOT A CORBIN HIGH SCHOOL FUNCTION. IT WAS EITHER A CHAMBER OR TOURISM FUNCTION.

Yes, it was joint venture with the Tourism and the Chamber, Bruce Carpenter.

They sure dropped the ball on this one, but, no surprise there.

Think of all the money the band boosters, soccer boosters, or whomever could have made over the 3 day event.

Maybe next year, we'll have concessions.

I am not taking up for which group sponsored it but I know that the participants bring their own stuff and don't buy concessions.  The only people who may buy concessions is local people attending.  In the past I have worked these types of events in other town and people don't buy a lot of concession.
I agree they should have provided something but not many groups would do it for the little money they would make for 3 days.  I am associated with a booster club and we would not do it for several hundred dollars, our time is valuable for such little profit.

Maybe next time you will volunteer to work the concessions, do you just like to complain?

If I see something I don't like, then yes I'll complain.

Concessions are primarily for the visitors and observers, not the participants.  If one booster club don't want to do it, call another. Somebody could use the money rather than give it to Burger King or Speedway or Wendy's.

The booster club sure took our money at the gate, if that's who it was. If they're going to take gate money, then they should provide concessions.  Don't give them one without the other.

I agree. It is embarrassing to have people attend an event and some of them bring their children and not be able to purchase concessions at the site of the rodeo. I am for the Rodeo and believe it is fine for Tourism to give some financial support but let's do it right.

If the rodeo can't be done right then don't have it.

Lets just say it was oversight, and plan to do better next year.

First, we need to find out who is sponsoring the event, tourism or chamber.  Either way, hopefully Estep and Carpenter will both be gone, and the new chairpersons can take this by the horns.

Then, if the committees don't want to do the concessions, maybe the new chairpersons can call around to the various groups, and see who wants it.

If nothing else, call David Keck at the steak house and offer it to his catering group.  If he does it, it'll be done right and first class.

This poster needs to get out a little more.  Have you been to the rodeo to see who attends?  David Keck wouldn't waste his time setting up for 3 days for pocket change.  Also if civic groups are interested they need to call Tourism and let them know.  Its just like all the other events, if you want to set up concession or booth give them a call.  Most people who attend these events bring their own food drinks etc.  Next year attend and see what goes on before running your mouth on issues you don't have a clue.  Or better yet call Bob Hammons the city attorney and ask him about concessions at the rodeo.

Sorry pal, we've been both years, and you're flat wrong.  You must get your info from Don or Bruce. What did you do to get your info, do a drive by?

I mentioned it to tourism, and they blew it off like they didn't care one bit, nor did the chamber.  Bruce said he didn't care, he was going to the UK-UL game. Tourism was lost in space as usual.  We have the most un-civic tourism group in the state I believe, and all the chamber of comm is worried about is nibroc.

The participants who camp or stay in hotels bring their own concessions, but, not all. And if you were there like we were, you would see the paid attendance was very large, and they DON"T bring their own. Try getting out of the car next time.

Oh, and I spoke to Keck.  He's done a lot of set ups for myself and the groups I work with, and if were to get the exclusive for this event, he would be glad to do it.  He does both large and small events.  He knows what it means to get his name out there, unlike most business's around here.   He needs to know in advance of course, not the week of the event, like they've done the last two years.  Again, our tourism and chamber has their heads up their a*$ as usual.

And Hammons, good luck on trying to get him on the phone about this.  Plus, he's not a player in this, he's got his son to worry about in his events.

This is an event that could triple their attendance if the chamber and tourism were to just try a little.

You must work for Don or Bruce, previous poster, your attitude reeks of their contempt for all who question their actions.

no I don't work for Don or Bruce!  I did get out of my car and I was their!  I didn't see you either!  If David Keck is so big on doing it he should have told the Chamber!  He is a member right?  How come a lot of people went over to Burger King etc.  It wasn't because of no concessions they just would pick that over it.  Ask your kid!  I am just tired of all the complaining and you don't know real facts.  You must have been sitting with your head up a horses.......................................

You must have been over at Burger King or Wendy's or Speedway, buying the food and drinks that you could have bought at the event, if they had concessions.

I don't know why Keck didn't ask, but I'll ask him.  Maybe he felt it would be a conflict of interest, a tourism committee member being the concession vendor. Maybe he was afraid he'd get slammed on this board for being there. I'll ask the next time I see him.

I'd much rather give my 5 bucks to the Soccer or Band or whoever boosters than to some fast food franchise or out of town owner like speedway.

Why are you tired of the complaining?  The only way you know something is wrong, or someone don't like something, is for them to complain.  That's whats wrong around here, there's never been anywhere for anyone to complain for other people to know about their complaints. If you don't like it, get off the board.

The logical thing to do, which you don't appear to be very logical, is to take these complaints, think them out, and see how we can do better next year. Instead of getting defensive, get proactive.  Take them in stride, not them, and work to eliminate them.  You don't know everything.

We were at the Rodeo two of the three days, and I agree, the lack of concessions was very inconvinent. Maybe next year, this will change.

There were many out of town persons at the Rodeo. If we can't have a well organized Rodeo we shouldn't have it here. It makes our community look bad. David Keck is not on the Tourism Commission. He is on the Chamber Board.

I don't know if David would be interested in this, but some of the local booster clubs should be. It would be a good money maker for them.

Hopefully, next year will be even better.

Wasn't Bill Hanson in charge of the rodeo event this year? I thought he volunteered to head it up after last years rodeo. If he wasn't he would sure be a good for it.
