Oktoberfest

What activities are going on this weekend. I haven't seen anything about this event. Who is putting it on etc. Are there activities on Friday night? Do they know Corbin has a home football game and it is homecoming and Hall of fame!

I saw extensive ads in both of yesterdays newspapers, it runs Saturday and Sunday, I believe from 10am to 6pm on Saturday and 1pm to 5pm on Sunday.

meant to also post I was told there will be a pig roast on Saturday and Larry Goodwin, who plays at the depot, will be the musical entertainment on Sunday.

I would think that would make it the perfect weekend. Lots of out-of-towners in for the game and the Hall of Fame. Friday before the game there is a pig roast, and there are lots of activities both Saturday and Sunday. It should be a fun, festive weekend. Go Hounds!!!!

Great afternoon downtown. My kids and I had a great time... A big thank you to those responsible.

We truly enjoyed the event several times saturday. This has potential for getting bigger every year. Very well organized and well ran. I only heard a couple of the vendors whining about a lack of sales, but when I looked at their prices, no wonder. Vendors are a dime a dozen, so we'll get some new ones next year.

Great event.

Why is event held on Corbins Fall Break?

From what I was told, it was truly a bad coincidence, it wasn't meant to be on the fall break, it just happened that way. Although the fall break was scheduled before school started, the Oktoberfest was as well. It just happened that way. Next year, I'm sure the dates will be looked at more closely.

Either way, there's still people in town, and I think once the word gets out about this years activities and success, and although inconvinent being on the fall break week, won't matter.

Many friends of ours that had plans, didn't start them until today, sunday, or even monday. And, many are taking mid-week trips.

This years crowd and last year was about the same. It has not caught on yet. People are not that interested in vendors. Crafts maybe but all the rest no. Why not get some performer to come in on Saturday night or something to attact more people. The activities were not enough to attract anyone to town.

I didn't see much advertisement for this event either?

It could be a lot bigger with some more work!

My family thoroughly enjoyed Oktoberfest. I'm sure things that may have been a problem this year, like coinciding with Fall Break, will be looked at when planning next year's schedule. But, we definitely enjoyed it!

What did you enjoy? Maybe I missed something. Be specific, I have only heard it had vendors and some group had pork meal. What was so special.

I'll take that last post as a genuine question, but it reeks of sarcasm with the "Maybe I missed something" comment, and then the "I have only heard" statement after it. So, did you attend, or just hear about it?

That said, I'll give my comments on it.

I enjoyed seeing many friends I know down there, giving us a chance to just talk and mingle. I didn't buy anything, but enjoyed looking at the items for sale, most of which were very nice. I enjoyed the carriage ride, that was a big different event than usual, I enjoyed the pork meal, as I've had it many times, and it's always good. I enjoyed just being outside and people watching. I enjoyed the entertainment, something different than the standard TV shows. We walked over to the Attic shope, it had some really neat things. I was there friday, and twice saturday, and once today. It was nice. It was the first time on the weekend, and yes, it was on fall break weekend.

I told you, now you tell me, what did you hear about it, and also, did you go?

Seriously, I didnt attend and only heard it was the usuall vendors and pork meal. I just wanted to hear from someone else. This board said is was good and I only wanted to hear what went on and what was the entertainment. I wondering how it went from a positive aspect.

You would have really enjoyed it. I forgot about the farmers market that showed up with fresh garden produce, and the car show. The car show was smaller than the big one during the summer, but, it was nice.

This was a really good event. I can't wait till next year.

I think one of the enjoyable things about Oktoberfest, is that it is kind of low key, not a huge amount of people, so no crowds to fight. You can visit with friends, and Nibroc Park takes on a kind of charm when it's decorated with the fall themes.

From people who attended it I have heard only compliments and that it was enjoyable. Congratulations to all who worked hard to make it possible.

No one has responded to the questions above. I would also like to know who entertainment etc,
I keep hearing conflicting reports on street as to success of festival.

Fall break was a terrible time to have it. School system has calendar out early. Should have changed weekends once notice was made.

My children left with their mother for vacation and would have loved to come.

The post six above responded to the questions I believe, or at least I read it that way. We went, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and enjoyed all three days. We enjoy just seeing people we don't get to see that often, and just hanging around.

I don't recall the specific names of all the entertainers, but I'm sure it's on one of the signs that are still up downtown.

Conflicting reports are common, some like it, some don't. Some vendors do well, others don't.

Yes, it was inconvinent for it to be on Fall Break weekend, but, you can't schedule everything around every event. If it were a Kentucky home basketball game, people would have went to that too instead of the festival. You just got to go for it and hope folks show up.

The entertainment was the Vintage Society Dancers from Lexington, and they were really neat to watch. Shea's had a tent set up for them to have lunch in between their performances and it was very unique seeing the dancers in their beautiful costumes eating in such an elaborate setting. There was an elderly lady set up in Nibroc park also, with TONS of homemade desserts and candies, and people were all over her booth. I bought a cake that was fantastic. I saw lots of friends there on Saturday and enjoyed catching up with them, looking over the crafts booths, and watching the children enjoy the free carriage rides. For a small community such as ours, it was quaint and pleasant weekend festival.
