You know what would be really ground breaking? It's kind of the opposite of a ban. Offer every smoker in town that new medication called Chantix and/or the patch,....free. Chantix makes cigarettes taste like burned paper. Yuk! Set up support groups in every church and in every civic club,...free. I know the "free" part will send some folks crying "How are we going to pay for something like that?" It's been my experience that folks like to be a part of something ground breaking,...so write a letter to the makers of Chantix or the makers of "the patch" and see if they'll sponsor the effort. Hmmmm, it's a thought.

I definitely have mixed feeling about this issue. As a former smoker, I developed an asthmatic reaction to smoke so I can't go to any facilty which is filled with smoke, so a ban would help me from a health standpoint. But I'm also a libertarian by nature, so I'm against any more government intrusion in our lives.
By the way, for those of you who aren't familiar with the term, libertarian is not the same thing as liberal, and it's also not the same thing as librarian.
I despise smoking in any shape, form or fashion. Same for dip and chew.
If it were up to me, no one that uses tobacco would be afforded medicare if their illness was related to tobacco use. To me, using tobacco is like a slow suicide. It's gonna get you, it's just a matter of when.
Same for health insurance, smokers should pay a very much higher rate, and pay more deductibles.
As you can see, I am a very adamant non-smoker, and have NO tolerance for smokers.
