The topic of conversation in the past few weeks in my circle has been the Expo Center. In particular, the funding for it's day to day operations.
Our consensus based on our memories of newspaper articles, is that the daily operations and paymet of the management contracts will come primarily from the monies collected from the restaurant tax, which goes to the Tourism Committee. Is this correct?
And, if so, they, the city leaders, have pledged 75% of the collected tourism monies to the operation of the Expo Center, with the Tourism Committee getting the other 25% to be used at their descretion, for tourism related projects and events. Is this correct?
If those two statements are incorrect, can someone tell us the correct formula and information.
Also, with regard to the proposed Expo Center management contract, and by this I mean the company the city is planning to hire to run and promote the Center, will the city commission be the overseer of the operations and events there, or will the Tourism Committee and chairperson? I've been told both ways.
Also, will the Expo Center, or the city if you please, receive a percentage of the profits from any event held there?
We all thought this had been published in the papers before, but it has been some time since these specific details have been discussed.
