Hello, I'm a first time reader and poster. While visiting a friend, we were discussing some issues in todays papers, and she kept referring to 'the Corbin web page". I finally asked what it was, and she logged on for me, and I've been here for the last couple of hours or so. Preparing to leave (I'm sure to her relief), I decided to at least post a comment.
This is a great forum. It's a fantastic way to discuss anything, but most of all, things going on in and around corbin. Sure I've read some crazy comments, but, you have that out in the real world anyway, so it's nothing new here. But there's some really good topics and opinions, for both sides of an issue, on this forum. I'll be sure and check this daily, and post when I can.
I've heard about many of these things that are said on here, but one thing I think is really good, are areas like the tourism section, the restaurant section, and the events section, and even the corbin sports section. Those are really good to read.
There is no way for the normal, everyday person to voice their opinions about anything in this area. Sure you can write a letter to the paper, but, after you write it, mail it, wait, and then they will call you if they think it's sort of derogatory to make sure you wrote the letter, your thought is gone from the topic. This is an instantaneous media vehicle to use for your thoughts NOW. Not next week or in two weeks.
I just overlook the crazy stuff, and read the real comments. There are some good ones. I will definitely talk to our elected officials about this board. From reading here, it seems many think they don't or won't like this forum, but, as far as I'm concerned ,they should all read it every day, and they should address many of these things.
There are many great topics on this board, and some really good duscussions concerning them. Like life in general, there's always some hot heads out there just looking to stir up trouble. When you take the truly silly posts out of the mix, the conversations are very good.
This is the first time the people of corbin and the surrounding areas has had a voice in anything concerning, well, anything. This has never been available before, and the people under the gun so to speak don't like it. They've never been criticized before, and don't know how to handle it.
