This is a great event for our young and needy children. The Rotary Club Members, Times Tribune, and Lynch Brothers and their employees do a great job each year in helping many youngsters enjoy a Merry Christmas. Thanks again for being an example of the true meaning of Christmas.  We were pleased to see D. L. and Dennis Lynch recognized for their role in this event. Dennis got out of the Hospital yesterday afternoon and our prayers and best wishes are with him and his family. Great Job by all!

It is hard to thank everyone who had a role in the success of the party. However , we do appreciate Bob Terrell for arranging to have the Lt. Governor at the Bowling Alley. It is always nice to have our State Leaders lend their support to local causes. Rotary Member

Pizza and Company came through for us again too. Their generosity has helped make the event an annual success.

The people who made it possible to have the bikes available were great. Our area has some wonderful civic clubs and people who care about others. Thanks to all.

I took my sons and was disappointed that Gov. Brashear decided not to show up? I guess it wasn't an event important enough for him or something. I was told at the bowling alley that past governers Patton and Fletcher always showed up.

Governor and Mrs. Beshear sent word by Lt. Governor Mongiardo that they were sorry they could not be here December 21. He was committed to another state function. They said they will attend next year. Lt. Governor Mongiardo is an important leader who is from Eastern Kentucky. He did a very good job and made another stop related to economic development for our area. I am glad the Little League Mom took her two sons to see the event. It is not a political program, and Governor's Patton and Fletcher, and Lt. Mongiardo were at these events in the spirit of Christmas.

The volunteers of Rotary, Times Tribune, the Lynch family and their employees showed what Christmas is all about.  It was wonderful to have Lt. Gov. Mongiardo at the event and he returned to Frankfort with a great feeling about the people of this area.

Merry Christmas to all of those who made December 21 such a special day for many children and their families.

Bob Terrell, Sr.

Let's just face the facts. We got snubbed by the governor because most of us are Republicans and he is a Democrat.

If Fletcher were reelected, he would have been here. I think Beshear's absence shows what he thinks of our area.

I disagree with the last poster. Govenor Breashear simply had other pre-arranged plans.. The fact that The Lt. Govenor came shows Their committment to the program. As one of the founding members and active Rotarians i am grateful Bob Terrell was able to get the Lt. Govenor to come down. Active Rotary Member.

Apparently Mr. Terrell doesn't have as much influence with Brashear as we thought. He ditched out on an event that former governors always attended.

It's going to be a long four years for Whitley County.

To the contray, Mr Terrell does have alot of influence. The Lt Gov was at the party and was obviously there at Terrell's invitation.

From my perspective, the Empty Stocking Fund party is one of the best children's events in the area of all. Christmas is a happy and joyous occasion, and regardless of all the hype, it's about kids and kids having fun. Sure there's the religious aspect of it as well, and we all know about that, but remember, kids think in a different mind set than adults, and this is the one time a year they can just have fun and enjoy themselves. For some, this is the only christmas they'll have, and believe me, the on they'll remember for all their days. I've been to several of these, and it's a truly wonderful event.

As far as the governor not showing, although I wish he had, remember he just got into office, and that's an even more hectic thing for him, but, I am glad Mongiordo came. It still gave the event a great significance.

There's no politics in this event, you leave it at the door. It's just good fun, enjoyment, and a true christmas spirit for all.

Were all the corbin city officials and committee chairpersons there?

To the previous poster, great post, its a tremendous event, the children received some great Christmas gifts, and Mongiardo was a gracious guest.

Only a scrooge would post the negative comments I've seen a few posts up, and I can easily guess who is behind them - a local no-show to this charity event.

Ward and Thunderbird, you are both on target. None of the City Commissioners were at the Empty Stocking Fund event.  Dennis Lynch would have been there but  was in the hospital.

Mayor McBurney's son was getting married in New Orleans and he had a good reason to be out of town.  The ones who have criticized the Governor for not being there are ones who were not there.  If they had attended they would have seen what a great time the kids enjoyed.  It is a great event and it was nice for Lt. Gov. Mongiardo to attend.
