WANTED: A Female candidate for commissioner.

We need a woman for commissioner. Why, well, why not.

I can think of several, but I'll put it out to the board first.

Suzie Rasmus.  Corbin needs a woman commissioner. Corbin could even use a woman City Manager.

Male or female should not matter but you want to make a big beal about it. People vote for the candidates that they feel can do the job. Most people think that women candidates especially with small children will not be focused on their elected duties. Just look at who missed the monthly Tourism meetings a few months ago. Men or women? Besides, women have run for office in Corbin before. Janet Hagan ran for commissioner the last time and came in 8th place in 8 candidates. Former city clerk Betty Perkins ran for commissioner and was defeated. Carolyn Byble ran for commissioner and was defeated. Nancy Mitchell, a political expert if there are any was defeated in the mayors race by Tom Thurston. You are asking for another woman to get a rude awakening on election day. I'd think twice.

HMMMMMM----The last poster sounds like someone shot right out of the Old Conferdate South, tell us how you really feel about women??

There are many qualified women in this area who would do a great job as Mayor, City Mgr, Recreation Director, Commission ETC.

The last poster might want to think more along the lines of who will get our Million Dollars back from Knox County or Improve the Job situation here in the city?

Your first line said it should not matter, but then you went on to tell us all how bad women are and why they should not be elected? Hide the way you really feel just a little better if your going to babble.

Your present part time group of Comissioners has managed to do almost nothing, the money they have now will soon be spent! Hopefully some city residents will step forward and challenge this group, they are all beatable!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can make fun of me if you want to. It only shows something about you and not me. You can also run a list of women candidates for any position that you want as long as you can get some eligable women candidates to agree to it. Voters will more likely elect a woman for a clerk position than that of fiscal court, mayor, etc. Go for it. It has been tried before but it is a real let down to get just a few votes. Ask anyone who has been embarassed in an election. Maybe you even know someone that this has happened to.

Aunt Bea ran once but ended up throwing in the towel to Howard Sprague.

This poster makes the point for the problems in our town today, narrowmindedness, and the reluctance to change with the times. Tell us poster, what would you do if there were two female candidates for president?

All it would take for a woman to give it a good run is stand up to clowns like this.

So far, our present, and the last, mayor and commissioners have given away our money to knox county without a fight.

For now, not a darn one of them is the right candidate for the job on that matter alone as far as I'm concerned.

Your message sounds like the thinking of a male chauvinistic oink, oink. Do you have any daughters? I believe my daughters are just as good and capable as any men.  This is an example of tunnel vision in our area. Thank goodness many of our people are changing.

I believe that Lorene Hodge would make a good candidate. Her husband was fire chief for years.

You must really hate Corbin if you equate our current 2007/08 political scene to Aunt Bea and Howard Sprague of 1963. All of your posts all have a general theme - Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, and some Archie Bunker mixed in - I think you watch way too much TVLand. If I were to bet I'd guess you are one of the men on the Tourism Board, or at least associated with them.

Quite the contrary. I think Andy and Mayor Pike are doing one heck of a job. I don't know much about Green Acres or Petticoat Junction. Archie Bunker ? ... didn't he run for judge the last time? You are being silly. If you know a woman who wants to run for public office and you think that is where she belongs then by all means encourage her to do so.

What does it matter if the person running is a woman or man? Are you suggesting that simply because they are female they should be voted into office?

There are many fine and worthy ladies that could run for commissioner and win.

Ms. Trosper who owns the Dixie would be one of them. She would give them a good run for the money, and could win as well. And she wouldn't let politics play into anything either.

Betty Comer as well. A fine businesswoman and a person of the highest integrity.

Suze Razmus would be an outstanding candidate.

Jenny Shelton from Bank of Corbin.

Sherry Logan.

Linda Huddleston.

Marcia Smith, a local attorney.
