I've been meaning to write this for some time. If you haven't seen it lately, it's worth a stop and look at the railroad caboose at Wallen's Towing, just across the bridge from the city garage. I recall the newspaper article when they moved it to the lot, and they have quickly restored it and made a very, very nice attraction.
They've repainted it, and added some landscaping and a flag pole and light pole.
I've heard they're going to put a type of museum inside with some railroad artifacts inside.
The caboose, along with the newly restored Engineer Street Bridge, makes a nice entrance on that part of town.
I'd love to see a caboose or some type of railroad item on the are where main and ky splits on the south end, next to Harris Wheel alignment. A restored caboose would look great there too.
That's an outstanding idea!! Wallen's has made a difference in our community in several ways and this is a GREAT ONE!! I've been in the caboose and it's great inside! Very cozy and really has a way of shooting you back into time!! They've got it under high surveillance w/ alarms and camera monitor's all the way around it in case the idiots that 'just don't care' try to harm it. They are really looking out for themselves with the way things are today!! Preserving our past :)
It's worth a stop and see during normal working hours for sure. Remember though.. you are being watched and recorded if you stop by on your own past 5 :)
