CASINOS: Yes or No, Who Should Decide?

The weekly paper's editor had a good editorial this week, concerning the Casino issue and the belt tightening that is to come for the state budget.

He commented that the elected state officials should decide this, and not the people, through a popular vote. He says that's why we elected them.

I'm sure he thinks that's the way to go, since his candidate was not elected. And the issue of that's why we elect them, to decide these things, again is moot, to me. Our elected officials, both past and present, have put us in this financial bind, so, they really don't know what they are doing. It's because of them that we're in a mess right now. So, we want them to continue to do as they have been, and put us farther in the hole.

I wonder how the editor will feel, and talk, should his big boss decide to jump into the hotel/casino business. It would be very lucrative for him, his boss, to do so. He's into everything else, why not this. How would the editor feel then? I'd say, his tune would change drastically.

He mentioned the proposed horse track in London as well, in a negative tone I believe. That said, if the state officials approves this venture, does the editor now think they should NOT make those types of decisions for us. In this case, should WE the people now vote on allowing this type of thing into our area?

His articles make interesting reading and are good conversation starters for the area.

What's your opinions and ideas on this. We're all entitled to one, and this is the place for it.
