How do you feel about whitley co. donating a sheriff vehicle to the McCreary Sheriff?

Putting the warm fuzzy feeling of helping others aside, how do you feel about the issue of the Whitley County Government giving the vehicle to the McCreary Co. Sheriff's Dept? I'll expect some comments about me whining about helping others, or it's the christian thing to do, and all that type of thing. But, in the world of politics, and tight budgets, was it a sound decision. Did all the fiscal court support it?

It's good PR. It's a good human events, or human relations article and such. I'm not disputing that. But, consider this, in black and white.

And keep in mind, what Corbin is now going through with their civic center fiasco.

First, McCreary has an occupational tax, so why didn't they buy their sheriff a car with that money?

Second, Whitley County Tax money, in the form of county salary time, was spent to solicit these donations. Did they have nothing better to do with their time?

And, was this a wise thing to do with our county resourses.

I applaud and commend all those involved for their civic duty, community spirit and all that. But, was this wise with regard to government expenditures involving employee time, and county property.

I know I'll get a few jabs on this, but, it needs asked.

Of course, with fewer people posting now, it may not get one comment.

I don't believe County Government is supposed to use tax dollars from people in its county to bail out incompetent governments who don't use good financial management in running their affairs.

Whitley County is still in deep debt. Whitley County is one of the lowest per capita income counties in the nation. I am all for benevolence but do not believe this is the way our county officials are supposed to manage our money.
