Williams vs. Fletcher, Round 1

Interesting week this past week, with Senator David Williams obviously feeling it's better to jump off of a sinking ship before the ship takes him down with it. Maybe David is positioning himself for a run at the Governor's office, but the only part of the state he would have any backing is in this area of SE Kentucky.

I agree with you. He isn't very well liked across the state. But I admire him for having the guts to express his beliefs.

Both Posters are right on the money, will be tough for any Republican to step up and run for office this time around. So many issues with Fletcher & his Administration, the timing may be off for David to even think about a run, believe the party will have a better shot next time around.

Other than looking childish and petty, I don't think Fletcher accomplished anything by not inviting Williams to his check party in Williamsburg on Wednesday.

Frankfort kind of reminds me of Washington. There is an idiot in charge who is surrounded by smart but slimey individuals, who seem to only care about themselves and their rich friends, and could care less about the average person.

People say Fletcher can't be re-elected, but who would have thought we could have re-elected Bush in 2004.

It somehow happened.

Unfortunatley we have a LONG history of doing strange things when it comes to Politics. We not only did this with Flectcher but Patton was just as bad along with a Dozen more we could mention.

Yes we elected Bush again but Al Gore could have easily won the first round, what did he do? That's right, blow it in his home state of TN which would have won him the race regardless of what happened in Fl.

The Lobbyist must be scaled back in order for the Gov to function somewhat honestly, if you have ever been to DC or Frankfort and see our Gov in action you will see these folks everywhere, there not just local citizens they are high powered company lobbyist (95%).

If we scale these folks back we may have a chance to make the system work again!

Those are very wise words. Our elected officials at all levels are in the pocket of the special interest groups. Leaders should be good examples of sacrifice and service. How in the world can we continually refuse to raise the minimum wage for the lowest income workers in our nation? Congress gets a raise each year and our poorest workers have not gotten one since 1997. How can anyone live on slightly over $10,000 a year with gasoline prices going up as well as other costs. Do we just not care anymore?

What did the politician say when he accidentally bumped into Governor Ernie Fletcher while rushing through the State Capitol?

"PARDON ME"

Pretty interesting day yesterday, with all chargers being dropped against Fletcher. There are no laws anymore in Kentucky - at least that the upper crust have to live by. It's time to vote all of these people out.

I agree. It is amazing how many get c harged with illegal actions and how few of them serve any time. Especially our political leaders.

OK-----Let's look at WHO charged the Gov. That's right a good ole Democrat by the name of Greg Stumbo our fearless Atty Gen. These charges were always Misdemeanors and Stumbo was only trying to ruin Fletcher, most here in the Legal community knew all along this was now here near anything that would even have a chance at sticking.

Buttttttttt---Stumbo actually accomplished what he wanted, smeared the Gov enough to finish him off within his own party. This was no about the Law but Polictics!

Stumbo should never pick on any Republican leaders. He should remember this is a dual law Commonwealth. The powerful should get by with doing anything they please  and the rest of us peasants should shut up and accept it.  What in the world does Stumbo think he is doing?

Our Republican Lt. Governor recommends that the Governor's right to pardon crooks, con artists and other questionable persons be more tightly controlled in the future. It is good to see there is a Republican that is against corrupt and abusive power. Perhaps he should be the one to replace Fletcher in the next election. Pardon me, but this seems like a good idea.

David Williams can be the poster child for what is wrong with our state government. Did anyone see the story on channel 36 in Lexington last night? $53,000 for Cherrywood walls and shelves, $17,000 for a 60" plasma TV and multimedia system, and assorted other unecesssary expendatures. $53,000 for $7,000 worth of materials, $17,000 for $4,000 worth of technology.

Williams says his office is intended to be used as a conference room for Senate leaders, where they will use the plasma screen for things like power-point presentations, not football games.

"Quite frequently this office is used for leadership meetings and chair meetings and it's necessary to have that sort of technology," Williams says.

What a bunch crap.

Here is the story from channel 36

I saw that news program and it made me sick to my stomach. He is the most arrogant, pompous character I've ever seen. That is the typical way government is being operated in Frankfort, and Whitley County.

I have seen in Corbin a breath of fresh air coming through our city since Willard McBurney became Mayor. The previous Mayor ran things from his dark, isolated office, and spent more time bragging than doing anything for the people.

I believe Corbin is going to do well if the outside bosses don't screw things up. Good luck to Mayor McBurney, and when are we going to learn a good lesson and send David Williams back to Burkesville?

It looks like the Republican Party will have a big battle in the primary race for Governor. Bunning is supporting Northrup, McConnell is keeping tight lipped, Davice WIlliams is quiet as a mouse, and the Whitley County Republicans are following Fletcher down the road wherever he takes them. He gets more money out of the county for campaign expenses, inauguration parties, legal costs or whatever he wants. When Fletcher loses this fall Whitley's Republicans in Frankfort will be out of jobs unless they are on the merit system. The next Governor, I pray, will not have to pardon so many of his staff for wrongdoing. Fortunately for Mr. Patrick, he never moved to Frankfort and I understand he draws his pay at home.

David Williams is a pompous windbag who has done more for our area than anyone in recent memory. Just because I don't personally like the guy doesn't mean I can't appreciate his support for our community, and his inability to BS. His views on Fletcher and most any other subject are well known. With him, there's no guessing on his position on anything. Just my humble opinion...

Morning Glory

I sure hope the Pardon Gov. Fletcher gave Bill Nighbert will be able to get him off the hook for the third time.
It would be nice if the Pardon could be used the rest of the time Mr. Nighbert works for the State. A blanket pardon seems to be fair for Mr. Nighbert.

Lt. Governor Pence severely criticized Governor Fletcher in this morning's paper about the way he covered up his own problems by pardoning those who might have involved Fletcher in the wrong doing. Pence has some guts to stand up to that bunch of characters who came into office to clean things up, and ended up as lousy leaders themselves.

In Washington, DC, Frankfort, and in Whitley County politics is run for the benefit of the rich and powerful. The thing that galls me is that our brave troops are fighting in a war during a period when taxes were cut for the wealthy. We should all have to sacrifice when our nation is at war. Some of our service personnel are having to go to Iraq/Afghanistan three or four times. Our reserves and National Guard are stretched to the limits and their families are left alone and with uncertainty. I notice now we are sending troops to fight in Iraq without providing them the training they need to fight in that part of the world. Why? Because we are so stretched out we don't have the number of troops we need.

It will take us years to repair the damages that have been created by this administration with our growing debt, loss of jobs overseas, the added number of our citizens living in poverty, and the hatred people across the world have for our nation.

Let's pray for our nation and that our leaders will care about our people and not their own selfish interests.

Are Senator Williams and Governor Fletcher still hostile toward each other? Senator McConnell and Bunning are going to support Northrup, I believe. Is Bill Nighbert Fletcher's main man in Eastern Kentucky? Will Nighbert be his brains from Eastern Kentucky? There are a lot of strained relationships in the Republican Party in Kentuckky, but they are still the greatest in pressuring the lobby groups for contributions.

Why does the Kentucky State Senate have to act like a bunch of jerks? they could have said no to the widows of those killed in the Lexington Airport Plane crash without comparing to a bunch a people wanting to win the Lotto games. That was cruel and unnecessary.

Williams vs. Fletcher is a competition between two has beens. Williams and Fletcher have both been bad for Kentuckians. This period in Kentucky history will be remembered as the era of greed and corruption. Nighbert will be remembered in this history as a political hack who got pardoned which got him out of two different messes. This will be remembered as a black and cloudy
time in our history. Surely goodness and mercy we can do better than this.
