This year's team has made it to a key game this Friday night. They have kept in there giving a good effort and I hope they have a good game Friday night.
The Redhounds put up a great battle in the game at Russell last night. They gave last year's State Champions a real game that could have gone either way. This year's team had a lot of spirit and we appreciate the effort they gave this year.
The 7-5 Records over the last few years don't get it. Hope Coach Jewel can get this ship turned, a few more of these seasons and the Natives may get restless!!!!
I was reading Bill Crooks Column in the News Journal and have several questions. According to Crook Corbin Asst Football Coach Burley Foley took some players to a football camp in Florida?
That's Great but what about the other Kids in Corbin that may have wanted to Particiapte, was an offer made? Was this a School Backed Official Trip? Foley is a Paid Asst. with the Football Team?
Only a Select Group of Kids went on this trip, who were they??? Did the Board Of Education, Superintendent know about this road trip and approve it? Was the people representing Corbin School Systems?
Who's money was spent here? Was School Budget Money spent? Did Mrs Phillips know a select crew of Kids went on this trip with a Member (Paid Member) of the High School Coaching Staff that represents the School?
This certainly does not sound like an Inclusive System, it sounds Exclusive Elite System, or the Good Ole Boy network??
Boy, does the guy above sound like a disgruntled parent or what. Probably had a kid that didn't make the team, or, he himself didn't make the team way back when. I'd say he's from south laurel, judging by the 1975 comment. Most of those folks that lived around her back then are like that. Laurel county wouldn't even pave the roads in south laurel county in the 70's, until they found out some kids went to corbin schools.
This ain't the NCAA pal, and things don't work that way in high school sports.
I gotta laugh at the last poster, I wish it was 1975 again. Maybe we could do better than 7-5 each year. We can't even beat the local teams now, we dropped Bell County and South Laurel has scored 30 or more points on us the last 4 Years we have played them?
This is a Long way pal from 1975, I doubt you ever played a down like several other of the folks who are commenting here. Unhappy, you darn right I am unhappy, we have kids whose parents grew up in Corbin, still live here and their kids are breaking Rushing records at Lynn Camp and starting at many other schools in the region.
1975 & 1976, we were winning State Titles back then on not avoiding Bell, Whitley and getting beat by South Laurel. The District we have been in has been a Joke, we are lucky to have finished at 500.
All of this taken into consideration it is absolutley crazy to not be Inclusive and bring every kid possible into the system, this is why some of your best kids are NOT playing football these days!!!!
If you think I am the only person talking about this issue your stuck in a cave around Lynn Camp creek. Talk to some of the parents & teachers and will see there are many folks upset on this one. I also see you ducked every question and still have not put up the Invitation & Announcement that was supposedly made to Invite all the kids to these secret Practices that have been going on?
The biggest problem with the football team is the coach's brother. He's run off more kids than anything.
He's not a coach, just someone they dragged in here to take up a job cause he was the coach's relative.
You want the program to flourish, ask Cotton Adams to step back up to the plate. That man has forgotten more about football than all the others on the field now know. He turned the Whitley County program completely around.
When Cotton gave the prayer right before the team went out onto the field, and right after "amen" gave us the "Let the Big Red Roll", the hair stood up on the back of your neck.
We need coach's, not everyone's buddy and friends. Parents need to stay off the sidelines, off the field, and off the practice field.
Alot of the old guard from previous Championship Teams have about had enough. These are business people now who lot's of influence, the Coach's better get this mess turned around and get out of the 70"s and zero in on what works today.
There's a storm coming here Coach, you better right the ship, we ain't use to being just average!!! Drop the attitude or get out.
The Corbin Redhounds need to boycott the London Times Tribune. Its a London paper with London sports. Just look at Monday (todays) paper. NOt one things on Corbin Redhounds.
If it weren't for the kids wanting to read about the games in the next day's paper, I'd go along with you all the way. But, the weekly just don't have it in sports, as its 3 to 5 days before you read about it.
Thats all Corbin sports is ever in London Times Tribune anyway. About every 3 to 5 days they will put something in about our Redhounds. Steve Jewell needs to tell them to hire a local sports reporter. Hopefully someone who has played football.

Yes, its about time we get some good coverage on Football. Maybe the people who vote on Hall of Fame can help the Times select a new sports editor.
Soccer was considered a nuisance by the Recreational Department for years. It is great to see it growing for boys and girls.
We better watch out or the soccer fields will be taken over by football. The strange thing about Corbin's football program is that in middle school we have super teams, but by the time these boys become seniors only a few of them are still playing. The retention rate for players moving on to high school is terrible. Why?
Not really strange at all, the coach's have not changed with the times. You can not ask any questions and it's a closed Atmosphere. The Fall Out Rate is Massive and Kids that played here in Middle school have quit, play for other teams, play lot's of Soccer, or do other things in the school.
The current staff is willing to Lose Games to prove their points and preserve their Positions. All of these folks are Teachers in the system also, the Board Of Education should look closely at what is going on and why these kids & parents are complaining about the current staff and their inability to get any communication from these guys at all, the worst is the head Coach & his Brother, there in their own world.
These Guys like to talk Redhound Pride, I am afraid they lost that many years ago. Look for a 6-6 year and painful loss at Belfry. This is a result of losing kids over the last 5 Years.
Most of the kids who quit football from middle to high school can't handle the self discipline and physical intensity to play high school football, even freshman football. Many will start and then quit when they realize what it takes to play high school football. Little league and middle school football is more of a basic introduction to high school, to make sure they know their fundamentals, know what to do, and when to do it. Middle School football is more of a fun time, not the seriousness of high school football. High school football is a contact sport, a very direct, in your face, head to head, contact sport. It's the kind of sport where the very intent is to hit someone. Thats why they wear helmets. And most kids now days, can't handle the ferocity of knowing they will be hit, hard, and with malice to hurt or injure them, on every play. It always dirty, there's always injuries, there's cursing, there's hitting, there's blood, and it takes long hours of practice and study to learn what each and every player on the field has to do. The coach is going to yell at you, he's going to call you names, and he's not going to be nice about it. If he leads you around the practice field by taking your facemask and walking you through a blocking pattern, or a defensive blitz, so you'll know for sure where you're supposed to go, and you won't forget it next time, then so be it. You will remember your instructions because you will remember what will happen if you screw up. The tackle better know what the running backs are doing, and the full back better know which way the guard is taking his man on every play. One breakdown from any given position will break the play, and you don't want to suffer the wrath of the coaches, and most of all the other players, when it's you that broke down. Every kid can't be a quarterback, and every kid can't run the ball, and when you have parents down at practice wanting to tell the coach where their Johnny should play, how long he should play, and how good he is, they can't handle the truth, neither little Johnny or mom and dad. Mommy's and Daddy's let their kids quit at the slightest sign of not liking it, the slighest sign of having to suck it up and play on, having to play hurt and have your ankles or wrists wrapped, and their answer is usually, "you can always play soccer". More parents have told their kids to quit football in the last 5 years than the kids wanting to quit themselves, all because the coach don't think little Johnny is another Peyton Manning, and mommy and daddy does.
Redhound Pride, it's still very alive. For a AA team to hold their own against 3, 4, and 5A schools is a great thing. That way, when you play your own class, you've had the hard knocks you need to win.

I'm actually glad the above poster answered a few Questions, thanks Coach. Now the flip side of your Thread, let's break it down here a little.
You start out using the word self disipline, the kids today are not the same group from the sixties, seventies and eighties. I listened to a Lecture from the Coach at Boyle County a few years ago, you know the team that won 6 straight Titles?
he said the Kids had changed drastically over the years, he also said you had to be as good a Politician with the Parents as you were an X's & O's guy on the field. A different generation with many other things to pick from other than football anymore. he also mentioned this to be critical for schools at the Triple A Level and lower as losing kids early can have a devastating Impact.
Sounds like according to your Post you have an issue Communicating with the Parents and are somewhat upset because they tell them to Play Soccer? Don't blame the Soccer folks for outcoaching & outmarketing you on the Communication and Political End. You also left out the Kids who are quiting and playing for other schools and coming to Corbin and beating your tails and also breaking State Rushing Records at Lynn Camp.
The In-Your Face Baloney and Headhunter attitude in your post is true, their just playing somewhere else and your the hunted not the hunter anymore. You also talked about competing with Triple A Powers and others, Middlesboro Hung 62 Points on us last year and are smaller than Corbin. We have struggled with South Laurel the last 5 years, they have been Mediocre all but one of those years but easily able to hang 30 Plus points on us anywhere.
Sure Parents are telling their Kids to avoid Corbin Football now, does that not tell you we have a problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Drop the pride lecture and improve the program, the Soccer bunch was everywhere during Nibroc, shaking hands, marketing their program. The corbin Coach's were no where to be found leaveing the Entire Crowd to learn and grow with Soccer and other sports.

get in the Game!
Get real. How many Peyton Mannings come from each team??
Get over yourselves. Corbin football has always been spectacular----to those who have played. As for the rest of the us....we live in the REAL WORLD. "What the heck is a "redhound" anyway????
School and team pride are excellent--but not part of who you want your child to become. Let's face it. After the age of 18 or grade 12 is completed, whichever comes first, your high school team is no longer of importance. Good memories, but not important.
Isn't the soccer team "Redhounds" too? Redhounds are the spirit of this community and something to take pride in, whichever sport is being played. God Bless the Redhounds, and let the Big Red Roll!
