I grew up in this place, and have a soft spot in my heart for it. During the old Corbin High School days, when you went home (or anywhere) for lunch, I could get a hot dog, bag of chips, and a small pop (soft drink) for $2.
They have a different chili, much different than the Root Beer Stand, but both are great.
I admit though, I DO NOT like the remodel job. I miss seeing the "kitchen" behind the counter, and the atmosphere has changed. I know, all things change, it's just that I never thought this place would change.
They have great food. I've never had a bad meal there. And, the price is and always has been very reasonable. This is another place I try to take out of town friends to.
I know it's been through a lot the last few years, but, I think it'll pull through.
I still go there at least twice a month. I'd go more often, but work gets in the way sometimes.

THE DIXIE NOW HAS COLD BEER !!
NOW THEY NEED TO COME UP WITH A GREAT BURGER !
The Dixie dosen"t have a chance. The Benery,Shay's coming on line and especially the Depot will kick the Dixies butt ,just because they have beer won't save them actually it hurts them because they thumbed there nose to there regulars that was against beer bad decision.
My family and I ate lunch there today, and it was great. I love that place, if it goes under it will be such a shame. Great atmosphere, nice people. You can't blame them for trying their best to make a go of it, the restaurant business is tough, tough, tough. Those regulars need to get over it, and support the place they love. Why should they care what goes on there at night, they are all home then anyway. This town can be so sanctimonious.
Yes, cold beer, no bar area for the sots and lushes to hang out in, and good food. I like it.
If she could just stay open in the evenings long enough to get a following, she would do fine. For so many years, it had the reputation of closing early, and that's hard to shake for locals. Plus, the changing hands didn't help much. She's got an uphill battle on her hands, but, I hope she hangs in there. The Thursday Downtown thing I think will help eventually.

What a shame that Corbin downtown is going to lose another landmark. The Redhounds, young and old, should be down there soaking in the atmosphere, not to mention the dixie dogs! There aren't many high schools teams that have their own restaurant to hang out in and be surrounded by past star athletes in their glory days adorning the walls. Corbin, let's turn this around! Lets show them our appreciation for their dedication to our town. Please don't let the Dixie die!!!!!

Good comments, Suzie. Some of us are going to meet at the Dixie at 9:00 am in the morning (Saturday) to talk about a Corbin Walk program. Maybe each Saturday we could meet there and take our walk. Some of us will be there in the morning.
So what happened to the Dixie. It used to be the place to go and find out what was going on in corbin. What brought it down to where it is now.
It used to be that during lunch, it was packed, from around 1030 to 1pm.
It couldn't be the issue of serving beer, because it was having problems before that.
Anyone care to comment.
I love the Dixie, and still eat there when I can. I eat there at least two saturdays a month, and although it's hard, I eat there during the week when my schedule permits.
The atmosphere changed. It is all about nostalgia. They remodeled and moved the kitchen in the back, hidden. No more french fry warmer in the window, no more counter chairs. It just changed.
Then it sold to those people who took it down even more, but she brought it back, but it just hasn't caught on. It's definitely an older clinetel, but, the atmosphere changed. Now, it's so dark in there, you can hardly see the menu. SHe put in track lighting, and the bulbs are so weak, it's dark. Try walking in with sunglasses on, you'll fall down because you can't see.
The burgers and dogs are still great, and the food is good.
I don't know what to say.
Many of the old regulars are dead and gone, in a nursing home, or can't eat that kind of food anymore. That's really the truth. There's some left, but not that many.
And, take the business's that are still down town, most of their employees eat salads, subs, or other low fat type food.
I'd don't know the answer, those are just some of my observations.
And I don't want to make Ms. Trosper mad, it's just comments from a long time customer.
