annex yourself into the city, either home, business, or vacant property, and you pay no city taxes for the first year. No city property tax, no city school tax, no insurance tax, nothing as far as the city goes.
You pay no hook up or service fees to city utilities either.
That could be a savings anywhere from $500 to an unlimited amount, depending on the value of your property.
Why do this? You got to spend a dime to make a dollar.
If a home that is accessed at $100k, what would that be, city wise, as far as no city taxes, maybe a thousand dollars.
A business accessed at $500k. Even more.
Sure it's a one time thing, but, it will pay off in the long run.
The naysayers would say, "what about me, I just built, bought, or remodeled. I want a retroactive freebie". Sorry, you got to start somewhere.
You got to give people a reason to want to be in the city. Even a little incentive is good.
The city gives incentives to big business's to come into the city or build. They give them their occupational taxes back, sometimes for several years. Only on the companies taxes, not the employees part. If I'm wrong on this, please tell me I am.
I'm still shocked the railroad asked us to come into the city. But, in their case, I can see why they would want to now versus 10 years ago.
Good idea. If Corbin could reach a population of 15,000 people we would have mush more clout in Frankfort. The politicians would take us much more seriously.
As a city in the midst of three Courthouses within 17 miles we get the short end of the stick from County Governments. Corbin needs to work in cooperation with the other three counties, but we must look out for ourselves, and our children and grandchildren.
I agree. Corbin is a fine place despite the fact that they have no county support. Knox and Whitley Counties in fact don't want Corbin to do well, and Laurel County wants to run Corbin into the ground. Corbin is a special place and keep up your competitive spirit. These three counties around Corbin just don't recognize that the better Corbin does the better it is for the Tri-County area.
The financial crises in Knox and Whitley counties were not caused by Corbin. They were caused by the horrible mis-managment in those counties. Knox County is an outcast because they refuse to share the occupational tax that comes from companies and employees who are located inside the Corbin City limits. Taxation without representation. They are stealing from the city of Corbin.
I love to come to Corbin and I want you to continue to succeed.
