RE: Laurel Lake

According to the Grove & Holly Bay they have no Open Slips and there is a waiting list 40 Deep? I think it's you that are the Idiot and it's you that will pay for the repairs to Lake Cumberland as a Tax Payer.

Looks like everything the Engineer said was right on the Mark, were you at the Lake 4th of July Weekend? Talk to the Law Enforcement Folks and see how many people they have had to haul off the water ways this year compared to last.

See the Owners of the Grove & Holly Bay and ask them if they have made money this year compard to last year? Sounds like you may be in the wrong Lake, maybe Lake Cumberland in your little dingy?

HHHHMMMMMM,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Were you in kentucky or tennessee.  I was in kentucky, at laurel lake, were you.

I was there 4th of july, nothing special, and no big crowds.  That was one boring wednesday, and tuesday and thursday as well. Oh and the weekends before and after, same thing. Was right there in the middle of it.

Waiting lists for slips. I'm sure. For the ohio navy and out of town/state floating trailer owners.  Sure, it's revenue for the marina owners (thats another story in itself), and good for them.

Did you check the hotels that week. Talked with one hotel owner, and again, nothing special lake wise.  Had some standard summer one nighters, and again, nothing special.

The engineer seems to be against every thing about he expo center or civic center or whatever it's called, but, I haven't seen anyone building or developing around the lake, either now or before the cumberland lake thing.

That said, we have and are seeing development around the new center, and the developers are saying that is why they are building, because of the center. Not laurel lake. Haven't read a thing about the lake in their press releases. If he reads as well as he writes, I can see the problem.

And yes, I'm sure these marinas are making money. It's not hard when you have the monopoly on the lake as they do. You can charge what you want when you're the only store in town.

Sorry, we're at the lake through the summer weekends and the 3 holidays, and we've not seen any big tourist parade.

I was there July 4th also and the Lake was packed, the Camp Grounds were sold out and the Lake Interior Camp Grounds were sold out also. As usual your making up your points as you go along.

You also are babbling about Building around the Lake, there is NO building around Laurel within 3500 Ft of the water. Sure the Grove & Holly Bay have an Advantage.

This was made clear by the TVA back in 1973 when they agreed to maintain and Service the lake, had you lived here then you would have known that. Being gone along time does this to you, don't feel too bad you only lost about 25 years or so.

Ohio Navy, that's how much you have researched this, idiot, 80% of the registered boats at both Marinas are Ky Boats. Had you really been down there you could have walked down the slip Ailes and read the Tags. (No Facts Man strikes again)

This tells me you know absolutley nothing abouth the Lake, who really visits, and who is spending the Bulk of Money there. Your Civic Center has not made a penny yet but your tourism leader is busy learning Magic Tricks in Pigeon Forge and trying to hang buckets of chicken from street lights in Corbin.

Can't wait to see the New Civic Center, will it Rotate like a Giant Bucket Of Chicken as your Tourism Leader has suggested??

What Massive Growth are you refering to on the South End? Waitress Jobs? Fast Food, Ticket Clickers at your new Civic Center, High School Students Taking tickets at the Movies? This is your Idea of the Big Time.

It will take you 500 Years to match what Laurel Lake has brought to the local area, hell you could not even get anyone to Bid on this center till a couple of weeks ago? Where has the Rest. Money gone for the last year? Oh wait, you can not tell me that because Estep will not release a Budget and show where and what the Money was spent on?

This last guy posting, the Crazy Capitalizer, sounds like the one trashing the tourism people on the other threads. The buckets of chicken remarks seemed familiar.  He must be just totally disgruntled, probably wanted a job or position somewhere.

Looks like he makes up his info too.  I was at the lake the 4th, and no big deal. He misses the point, of the normal crowd at laurel and the supposed big influx of people expected due to the lake cumberland thing. Maybe a crowd to him is 4 boats tied to the same bank.

He needs to check further on those boats too. They may be registered in Ky., but, the owners aren't.  My nephew works there, and that's a fact.

Get a life.

Why does it have to be either, or on this issue?  Laurel Lake and the Convention Center are both going to be big draws to this area.  Why argue which will impact more?  This is why Corbin has such a hard time getting ahead, petty bickering between its citizens.  CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?????  And RESPECTFULLY disagree with each other when we have to?  I got some good advice once.....Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?

Your Nepew must be in charge of the Bobcat watching Committee as I own a Boat down there also and have talked with the owners and seen the waiting list and extra people they had to pay on the 4th of July. If the Boats are registered in Ky then the Local Economy get the Tax Money, not Ohio as you insinuated. The TVA has a Web Site that clearly shows the Impact to the Lake and the Money generated to the Local Tri-County area, you may want to check that.

Many people here are trashing the Tourism Board, just look at the number of Hits to the thread, read your local Times Tribune. There have been issues with this Tourism Group for a Long time. Read way back and you will Muliple posters who are really unhappy with this group.

My second point is the creation of Jobs due to the Civic Center, there will be Jobs created as there were in Pike County when they deployed their Civic Center, the Jobs however are service oriented and will not raise the Standard Of Living for 90% of the people who will work there. If this great expansion was working we would not featured on National Networks as one of the Poorest areas in the nation and the County in 18 Million Dollars worth of debt.

The City Of Corbin however is in the black with their Budget and the Tax money will help out, no question. But that has nothing to do with raising the Median Income Levels of the Local Population, jobs from Toytota, Johnson Controls, Aisin are the Wage Grade Jobs that raise the Median Income levels of our Local population.

Don't be fooled by the select few who may own some of the Business's and claim expansion, other than their own families doing well these type of Business's do not have the same Impact as High Grade well paying jobs. More Motels, a Harley Dealership, Restaurants, Gas Stations will not provide the type of Jobs that raise the median income levels but add to the city tax base.

The Lake has been a Money Maker for many years as the Government reports show but it unfortunatley will not create the Jobs that will raise folks Income Levels either, it still however has made more than the Invisible Civic Center.

I hope Laurel Lake does real well. It is a beautiful place. We have some excellent outdoor areas and we all benefit when they do well in attracting people.

That guy two posts up has a burr up his tail. This thread is about the  lake, not the politics. Sounds like he's mad at someone for not getting something he wants.  If he's that adamant, he needs to run for office (unless he don't live in the city, then he needs to clam up).

He sounds like the one over on the Redhound Sports thread slamming the people for taking the kids to football camp.

Get a life pal.

Laurel Lake is georgeous, and one of the cleaner lakes around. It's small and narrow, compared to many, but nice. And, sorry, but the traffic is way down from what it used to be.

The guy 3 posts up has some good points, but he needs to realize others have their opinions too, and he has to realize everyone will not agree with him. The other posters messages are very relevant too, and he seems to think no one knows anything but him.  He needs to listen as well as talk (type).

The lake, while a good touris draw, is a regional draw, not local. It may pull in thousands of people, but in a broad area, not a centralized one.

The lake is a big asset, but, the economic benefits only reach so far, and I think the locals that use it don't or shouldn't count in the economic benefits overall. Sure, they use it, but the effect isn't felt in the same way as out of town tourists.

The Lake is a Great asset to the Local Economy, has been for over 30 Years now, there really is no debate between the Lake & Civic Center Impacts as there is NO Civic Center yet.

When and if the Center gets Built we then can see and measure the Impact to the Local Economy, untill then Laurel Lake will continue to be a super asset to the entire area.
