Kentucky Fried Chicken Museum, worth a visit.

For you tourists that wonder why this post is in the tourism section, it's because our KFC is the first. The original Colonel's restaurant.

It has a small museum/exhibit area within the restaurant, and is well worth visiting. It was featured on Alton Brown's travelers show last year, I don't remember the title, on the Food Network.

It doesn't have the buffet, which I wish they did, but it is one of the better KFC's.

Well worth the time and effort to visit.

We always take out of towners to the KFC museum, it's fun and they always love it. We buy them a button that says "I ate where it all began" for a souvenir, just something to remember our town by. Corbin is long overdue to capitalize on our worldwide notoriety as the birthplace of KFC.

Morning Glory

I have been out to the Colonel Sanders Museum several time recently, and it is interesting to look at the license plates on the visitors cars and Vans and see how many different states in which they reside. The museum is a much bigger thing to them than we sometimes realize. Kentucky Fried Chicken is a name recognized across the world. Colonel Sanders' name and history are monumental. We should do someting special in our area to remember him, not just a Chicken festival.

Its a shame that tourist leave North Corbin with the remembrance of only Colonel Sanders Museum (The Museum is a joke) and not other sites our area has to offer. Its also a shame that this area looks like the ghetto on the way in to K F C. We can thank the self serving Albert Robinson for that because of the ruling that Corbin cannot annex into more than two counties which means that this area is lft in limbo and Corbin was left with only one I road exit (25). London on the other hand with the chicken festival clamed the K F C because it was in laurel county that being said you would think that someone would try and get laurel county to clean up this ghetto in north Corbin. Signs should be located at this corridor to let tourist know that there are other things in Corbin than K.F.C.

Albert Robinson will always be known as one of London-Laurel County's great politicians. He deserves the credit for pinning Corbin down. You people can't annex 1/2 mile from your middle of downtown area.

Hurts, doesnt it. And to the south, east, and west you can't get people to come in to your city.
Corbin will always be at the bottom of the totem pole because you people are locked in.

ALBERT ROBINSON IS A RETARDED JOKE. TOM JENSON IS THE BEST FOR OUR AREA.
TOM HAS DONE MORE IN A YEAR THAN RETARD ROBINSON HAS DONE IN A LIFE TIME.

You will be eating those words soon London will have what is posted below before Corbin gets its roof on it's civic center and all Corbin will here is a big vacume sucking the restaurant tax money to exit 39 & 41 in London+most of the restaurant owners will move to London. Read below:
A group of businessmen is scheduled to make a pitch Monday for the last remaining quarterhorse racing track license in Kentucky to be issued in Laurel County.

According to Kentucky Horse Racing Authority Executive Director Lisa Underwood, a group calling themselves Sprint Racing Partners submitted an application to build a quarterhorse racing facility on a tract of land along Kentucky 80 just west of London.

They will make a brief presentation in front of the Authority Monday, April 16, Underwood said Wednesday. This is just the initial application. There will not be any action on Monday.

Following such an application, Authority Chairman Bill Street would typically appoint a committee to review the proposal and they can take action in a number of ways including interviewing the applicants, visiting the site and doing research on their own behalf, Underwood said.

Officials said that there is no specified committee size or timetable for such a review, but the remaining license is very limited.

Its hard to tell how long the process will take - there is only one license left to run a racetrack, Underwood said. We want to run a circuit so that horsemen can go from one (track) to another.

The Sprint Racing Partners group includes former horse racing official John Jones Jr. and at least six other experienced businessmen, according to Laurel County Judge-Executive Lawrence Kuhl.

The investors are from all over the continent - Texas, Mexico and some other places out west, Kuhl said. (Jones) put together some people who have experience in food, entertainment and horse business - people who know what to do and who have the money to make it happen.

The proposed site is about 103 acres roughly two miles from Interstate 75 exit 41 on Kentucky 80 near an existing Little League Baseball complex and Optimist Club gymnasium.

The site was once under consideration for an outlet mall, but that deal fell through more than 10 years ago, Kuhl said.

This will be a new, state-of-the-art facility with a very attractive racing environment, said Kuhl, who touted the area as ripe for such an endeavor.

Within a 25-mile radius we have 150,000 to 175,000 people - just outside the county lines, Kuhl said. Within a 100-mile radius we have 1,700,000 people.

Proponents believe that the venue will attract people from northeastern Tennessee and southwestern Virginia, as well as eastern Kentucky.

The site will be designed for the shorter and squatter quarterhorses, which are the sprinters of the equine world, as opposed to thoroughbreds, which are distance runners.

For an initial estimated investment of about $20 million the track should require 60 to 80 full-time people and as many as 100 more for part-time work during the horse racing season, officials said.

According to Kuhl, there is even an oval track around the grounds that could be used for trotters - jockeys who ride on two-wheeled buggies behind their mounts.

Others point out that the excitement could revitalize local agriculture for grain to feed the horses and places to breed, board, raise and train the future champions.

The track grounds would also serve as a new venue for other attractions, such as rodeos and concerts roughly nine months out of the year - when quarterhorses arent racing.

We hope to have the first events next summer, Kuhl said. I recommend that some people get on the inside track for corporate suites.

London-Laurel County Tourism Commission Director Ken Harvey has nothing but good to say about the venture.

When it was originally brought up they were looking at Williamsburg about a year ago. My understanding is that there is one license left and they are looking for development in southeastern Kentucky, said Harvey, who encouraged Laurel County residents not to miss the chance of a lifetime.

They have to stay far away from other tracks (because) they are trying to do whats best for the industry.

He described it as a major development and entertainment area that would also increase revenues for restaurants, motels and other service organizations in western Laurel County.

Ive seen photos of some race tracks in other towns and the potential of the facility is unreal, Harvey said. We already have a dragstrip and motocross racing, so when you add in horse racing - theres no doubt that wed benefit economically from tourism and the jobs it would create. It would be awesome.

It should blow everyone's minds how cheep you can build such a facility especially if it's not on top of a mountain. Where are we at around 5 million + and no foundation waiting for J.V. to get his little seam of coal out. This project better hurry before the good restaurants head for London. Rumor has it the Vintage House is looking for a spot in London. Looks like the self serving circle strikes again.

You can take it to the bank that London will get this track especially with the hundreds of million dollars the Begley's are worth, they make Terry look like small potatoes in comparison don't think a second that they don't have the most pull of anyone in this area in Frankfort. If this project happens Laurel Co will be the richest County in southeastern Ky.

You better hurry it up because Gov. Fletcher has only about six weeks before he gets voted out of Office. Then your Begley's will be small Potatoes!

Maybe your one vote wipes their's out, but unfortunately for you, and fortunately for people with some common sense, the Tri-County area can cast all the Fletcher votes it wants to, you won't wipe out the rest of the state. Fletcher is not in like Flint - he's dust.

See ya Ernie.

B.S The Begley's can buy Terry out with there petty cash. The only people that listen to Terry are the people that work for him or need money.

Begley and Forcht have done real well and have done some good things for our area. I would believe they both have very good influence.

Both of the folks listed have done well, both respected families. However their are many people in this very area that have twice to ten times the Assets and influence of these people, your just not looking hard enough.

The Voters in Boone County and Loiusville unfortunatley will have alot to say about who the next Governor is because of their very large numbers of voters, am afraid Mr. Flectcher may be in serious trouble in some of the old democtatic strongholds.

This Topic is still about the KFC Museum not who has the most money, it would be wise if all the Powers that be take advantage of this super opportunity to showcase both history & advance tourism into our local communities.

I talked with several of the parents and ballplayers that came to the Falls Invitational Tournament, and they mentioned they went to KFC, and were very impressed. Of course they all have them in their towns, but they commented on the museum aspect of the KFC here.

The museum is interesting but they really need to do something about the smell in there. Smells like cats have been in the w/o a litter box. Also the food is inconsistent. One day it is good and the next time you go it is really bad.
