People need to stop complaining and sitting behind their computers. Show your real identity when you are back stabbing our city leaders. I think it is the same people posting daily.

MMMM-----What a Great Mind at work with the Previous Post. Stabbing who? For What?
Give us some examples of what or whom your talkng about, while your trying to figure the "Who" is sitting behind their computers, try and find out where our City Tax Money is going and Why we can not get a copy of the Tourism Budget?
Your Post sounds like our Friend "Butch Cassidy" Estep and his Outside the City Limits Gang again.
Real Identity? Stop trying to find at WHO and find out:
Where our Money Went? How these Folks get Chamber Of Commerce Positions with Zero Business Experience? How People that do not live in the city, pay no tax's to the city and Manage to land on these Boards??
The boards work very hard with no pay. Look around they have done a good job. Sidewalks, expo center, and the city is well in the black. What else would you want.
I agree with last post. The present commission has done a great job. As far as paying taxes one tourism commissioner owns more property in Corbin than all the complainers combined. the city commission has been great. Can you believe the city has millions in the bank!!!!!!!!!

I agree with the last two posts. Corbin has become a eutopian area with no more improvements needing to be made. Our democracy will be even stronger is anyone who complains or makes suggestions would be deported. We must all think alike, look alike, and act alike. That is perfect perfection. It is hard to be humble when you are perfect.

I think this topic is about all boards, but as far as the City Commission, I'd give them a C grade at best. New sidewalks are great, but thats a small, small piece of the puzzle when it come to the needs of the city. Economic Development, getting tourists to our area, bike trails and other recreation, getting some of the ridiculous taxes under control (insurance tax?) potholes, non-working streeet signs, and much more.
You might be content with just new sidewalks, but we have a long way to go to achieveing perfection.
True, this appears to be a progressive city commission. Sidewalks are a nice start, now we have the expo center to look forward too. Also this commission has dedicated itself to tearing down old houses and buildings in town. All this being done without any additional expenses to the city of corbin tax payers. The expo center is going to be very beneficial.
... potholes, non-working streeet signs, and much more.

Perhaps you should get your list of potholes and give it to the city manager.
I agree with the first post - they have done only a fair job, and there is much to do besides new sidewalks. Some people are content with mediocrity, and as long as we are, you will see newspaper reports like the one in this morning's Times Tribune about a new Food Canning plant going into North Laurel County along with 400 jobs.
And while the city should be pro-active and not wait for people to report large potholes (along with the wheel and tire damage caused by these potholes that the city can be libel for), since we all drive over them, perhaps we all should get our list together and give it to the city manager.
If thats all you have to complain about is potholes then our city must be doing a great job. I agree with last poster get your list and send it to city manager. Its obvious the city leaders and board members do not visit this site. You are preaching to the wrong people.

If you were to try reading the these people's posts in their entirety, it was much more than potholes. ___________________________________________________ Entire previous post:

Before you decide that you can speak for all of the City leaders and board members, you might want to think again. I'm on a board and I access this site daily, as do many others I know. We might not agree with everything we read, but we get some good input from people who care enough to debate some issues, and not hand out a blank check to everything that takes place in our city and government.
When you're a publicly elected official, you better be ready for anyting. SO, you don't like anonymous "back stabbing" comments, then get out of office. Or, be ready to justify ALL your decisions, all of them.
Do you mean "tourism committee member" owns more property than all the complainers combined. There could be a couple of them from that board. And if it's who I think it is, their properties need their tax assessments raised, to make the property owners do something to make them more "visually pleasing" for the community. Just owning property doesn't mean you're a good citizen.
The tourism and other committee members may not be paid for what they do, and they shouldn't be. If they don't like it, and don't like putting in the time, then get off the boards. The only results we've seen from the boards, is the money they give away, especially tourism. They're supposed to create and support activities, not just write a check. What have they done? Bought banners, ordered brochures, and given away money. That's about it. What have the done proactivly to justify their position and time. Nothing we have heard about in the papers for sure.
The city commission's grade, well, I'd go with a C+. While the Expo center is a good beginning, they'll show their worth after it's built and we see how it is operated. Anyone can building, but, it's takes work and talent to make them come to it. That's when they'll earn their grade, when it's finished.
And to the last poster before me, if you're one of these board members, then know this, you serve at OUR convinence, not yours. You are there for US, not us for YOU. Don't like it, get off. You need to listen to people, get out and talk to them. As them questions. Not hide in your office and never answer your phone, never call back when called. Congrats for serving on a board, that's great. But, if you can't handle it, quit. Let someone interested in doing things have the seat. Your actions speak for themselves. In most cases though, it's your in-actions. I'd like to know which board you're on, but I understand you're not wanting to tell. I wouldn't either in your case. You'd open up a ton of comments you may not want to hear. But maybe that's the problem, you don't want to listen to peoples comments, and you think you're self-serving, thinking only you know what the community needs and wants.
Either way, I'm glad you and others like you read this site. It gives you something to talk about.

It is good to see that some leaders such as yourself are willing to listen to different opinions, and I commend you. Unfortunately, not all but several of the others are too cowardly to hear ideas and opinions that differ from their own.
You hit it right on the head with the "blank check" comment.
Checks and balances is the way our system works, but some of these folks want all the checks, but none of the balances. They have the opinion that because they are on a board, or serve as a city commissioner, that they know it all and their way is the best way and the only way.
Unless you are willing to listen to and accept different ideas and opinions, do not run for public office, and do not serve on a board. You serve in these positions for the people and community, not yourself, your ego or your friends.
Many think just because they're elected, they're experts on every subject. They were elected because they told the people who elected them they would listen to them.
So far, that only lasts a few months. Then they become experts, at everything.
Yes and there are a few who showed that they couldn't get elected and think that they are experts on every subject.
Not sure who your sarcastic comment is referring to, but I'd take the expertise, knowledge and experience of many non-elected folks over Bush, Fletcher, McConnell and other "experts" we've done a poor job of electing. Sounds like the Sour Grape bragade rides again!
Maybe you should give your name, the person's name you are referring to, and we can all sit down and discuss all the issues. I'm sure it would be interesting and entertaining.
And yes, you certainly have strong ground to stand on - elected "Expert Leaders" Bush and Fletcher (the phrases and names combined makes you laugh, doesn't it?) are doing bang-up jobs - need more "Experts" like them.
The Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-Gonzales, Fletcher-Nighbert teams and have gotten us into the biggest mess in our history. They are far worse than Hoover and Nixon-Agnew.
I'm not sure the world can take another year of Bush-Cheney and six more months of Fletcher. Name me one positive thing that has come from this imcompent, deceptive, pardoning, pigheaded group? There are many fine Republicans Who serve with honor but this group has hurt our nation and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. It is past time for a change!
The people that Elected Fletcher were Democrats, thousands had to cross-over to get fletcher elected, the state is 2.5 to 1 Democratic. if your mad over the Bang up Job these guys are doing then you might consider trying to get your Democratic buddies to stop voting them in.
Don't be mad at the Repbublicans, your pals are the one's who got this Guy Elected. The Left Agenda is hurting Democrats badly in Conservative state's, even to the point of electing Dorks like Fletcher.
The Republican Party is the most liberal bunch in our history. They are liberal in granting pardons. They are liberal in running our debt to an all time high. They are liberal in helping our oil, drug, and Haliburton make record profits. They are liberal in giving those of us with wealth tax cuts while at the same time they send our brave troops to fight in the midst of a fanatic religious civil war in which the people hate each other and want to kill us.
Bush-Cheney are liberal with their lies, deception, and the corruption that runs rampant in Washington, DC and Frankfort.
Christ was liberal in his love, forgiveness, compassion, and saving grace. Christ cared about the poor and oppressed. This bunch of incompetent leaders don't care about anyone but themselves and their buddies. Whether you know it or not.....we are in a huge mess!
