RE: Applebee's

I think that Corbin needs to open it's eyes and realize that opportunity is passing them by. This place is filled with so many hippocrits. All these people want small town flavor and then complain when the town doesn't grow like other towns and cities. I understand that people like "tradition". What you have to realize is that it is also tradition, that times MUST change. We aren't all still riding around in horse and carriage and drawing water from the well. Corbin is stuck in the middle of being too big and run-over to be one of those "adorable small towns" and not big enough to attract outside commerce. So you are stuck with a bunch of nothing. No reason to come and no reason to stay. I am not saying this because I don't like Corbin, I do. but come on people. Let in the Liquor sales on Sunday, let in the package stores, let in the Hooters. If you don't like McDonalds, then go to Burger King. This is Corbin but more so-this is America. The land of the FREE. Free to choose. Heck you will allow adult stores to come around but fall over if someone wants to have a beer on Sunday. If you don't agree with it, don't go to the restaurant. No one complains that the Depot sales alcohol, but I guess because the owner is a local. Big business brings about big opportunity. Look how much Walmart gives back to the community. I know O'Charley's in Richmond contributes greatly to the youth leagues in their area. I think we need a more up-to-date attitude and we should petition for an entire new set of officials.

I agree, we need to catch up with the rest of the world, but with our voting habits and several of our local politicians, we won't. Also, the Depot's owner is not local, and yes, people still do complain that the Depot sells alcohol, but those same people go to Hooters or O'Charley's in Richmond and get tanked there so nobody sees them, then then drive back home. Yes, our town has a few Hippocrits.

There was an ad in the Times-Tribune this week where Applebees is hiring all its staff, so it shouldn't be much longer until they finally open

I hope there is going to be a very prominent traffic light on Cumberland Falls Highway into the entrance of Applebees to the South and the Baptist Regional Medical Center to the North. Won't that also be the most critical entrance to get to the top of the mountain to the Exposition Center?

What is the plan?

The traffic light won't come until at least three people are killed pulling in or out of the area. That's the way they, the city and state, work, reactive, not proactive. Unless of course, the Applebee's company helps pay for it. I hope that doesn't upset anyone, but, if you look at the traffic light trends in the area, city and county, that's the way they work, tragedy is the only thing that brings change. The city has a million bucks in the bank, but, fend for yourself at the intersections. Their reply will be that it is a state highway, and so on and so on. That won't matter when the first local family is hit coming out of or into that intersection.

Our city leaders will talk about how we need one there, but, you'll see nothing, unless they fear they won't get re-elected, then you may see something. The city manager I'm sure will address it, but that'll be it, no action.

Rumors are that another restaurant is looking at the lot directly to the left of Applebee's (facing the front). Just rumors for now.

We were bold and weathered the crowd on opening day. The service was outstanding! Training as they went but their method was greatly appreciated. The wait was to be expected as a new place in town is always going to be busy and it was worth the wait. To have excellent management to insure that we were thrilled or it was free! That's the way to bring back business. No mistakes but the table next to me did have their order prepared incorrectly. Due to the wait in making it right they compted the meal and even sent them home with a doggie-bag of free food all at no charge!! Thank God for a 'real restuarant' that knows how to make the customer feel appreciated. They seem to understand that without our visits they'd be out of business. It was WONDERFUL!!

I'll be back again :)

Althougth they're still packing the place almost every night, and sundays are really busy, their service is very lacking compared to every other Applebee's I've eaten at.

Still some food prep problems, at least with our orders lately, but, I hope it will improve.

Either way, I'm glad they're here. They've been so busy, I'd say they're just now getting a breath to catch up.
