You're exactly right, but change starts with a change in attitude at the top, not at the bottom. If the committees and their chairpersons, and their members do not project a postitive, courteous attitude to ALL who talk to them, then they are the problem, not the solution. They were put in or volunteered to be in their positions, so, it's up to them to start this change you talk about.

Take Carpenter and NIBROC for example. There's no changing his mind on anything, and why, because he's always done it that way. Take the NIBROC suggestions on this board, there's some excellent recommendations there. He won't listen because they came from this board. Change starts at the top.

Estep, sure he's been in tourism for a long time, but, now they have some money. There is more to tourism than just banners and giving checks to events. I personally have talked with him about events or themes concerning tourism, and he just flat out says "NO". Not, "we'll see", not "We'll look into it, can you help", but a flat out no discussion "NO". Where's your change attitude there previous poster.

There's no infighting here, only differences of opinion, and this is the first time the average citizen has had a vehicle from which to voice their opinion.

There is change in the air, but the top has to start it.

Very well stated. This gives a clear picture of having strict control versus having input from the people of the area. This is still " his show, and if we don't do what he wants, we should get away from his table." I thought it was the table of all the people.

Its easy to keep pointing fingers. These people are just the head of the committee. What about the others on these committees. Why not make suggestions instead of keep pointing fingers. I haven't seen that many suggestions on this site. Why don't we try making suggestions for them.

How do you know they are reading these. I think we need to show up at the meetings a verbally tell them of our suggestions.

I still think no matter what these individuals do many people will butt heads with them regardless of how or what they do. I think it is a power struggle among certain people. Plan and simple.

I feel the mayor and commissioners need to step in and bring unity to our town. If the mayor doesnt like what they are doing and people have voiced their concerns to him then he needs to do something.

Keep voicing your opinions, its great but lets try to get something accomplished besides trying to make someone look bad etc. Give real concrete ideas and strategies for people to take back to these groups.

Would emails help. I know the tourism and economic development committees have emails, but who answers them, does anyone know.

I've seen a lot of comments about various people saying they've talked to this or that person, and thats fine. But, hows this for a suggestion.

If Bruce and Don both had direct emails, through the tourism and economic development or chamber of commerce, and they received them directly, would that help the communication issues that some seem to have? If I emailed either of them, and received a reply from them, they would know there is a paper trail concerning my suggestion, and their reply, whichever way they wanted to take it, would be documented facts then. So, would that help.

Same goes for the mayor and commissioners. Do they have emails at the city?

Change does start at the top, and you have to lead by example. Fingerpointing is easy, but, you can stop it with good, clear, effective communications.

YES E MAIL OR ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GOOD. THEY ALL HAVE THEM. MAYBE THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THIS SITE CAN GET AND POST THEM.

YES IT STARTS FROM THE TOP BUT ALSO THE COMMITTEES NEED TO STEP IN AND CHANGE IF THATS WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT. IF THE FEED BACK FROM THE PEOPLE REMAINS THE SAME, THEN HOW DO THEY KNOW WHAT TO CHANGE!

ALSO THESE PEOPLE DON'T NEED TO JUST CHANGE SOMETHING BECAUSE A FEW PEOPLE ARE SAYING. IT HAS TO BE LOOKED AT IN REGARDS TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.

EXAMPLE IS: APPARENTLY ONLY A FEW PEOPLE WANTED THE TOURISM TO BUY THE 26,000
TRAINS. THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE THOUGHT WE SHOULD USE THE MONEY ON A MORE USEFUL PROJECT. I THINK THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE WOULD HAVE BEEN FOR IT IF THE DOWNTOWN WAS MORE CLEANED UP. I THINK THE PEOPLE WILL STILL BE FOR THE PROJECT BUT NOT RIGHT NOW.

JUST BECAUSE A FEW PEOPLE WANT THE CHANGE DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT OR A CERTAIN GROUP WANTS IT. YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE.

ONCE AGAIN EVERYONE NEEDS TO VOICE THEIR OPINION AND THEN SEE WHAT THE MAJORITY WANTS.

Yes, excellent points.

You're on target with the committees and chairman issues. And also, they have to listen to us, the citizens, and get a good census of the peoples thoughts on something. They can't just call their friends, they have to ask a good cross section of the area, of everyone.

You're right about the train thing. One issue there was it was the first suggestion from the Downtown committee, and they wanted to put on a good presentation, which they did. But, it could have been to expensive for a first project. The problem with that project was the way it was handled by Estep and Tipton, and their comments. Regardless of what they said, or how they said it, it's what was put in the papers, both of them. Estep and Tipton came off as arrogant and snotty, and thats a fact.

The change in attitude issue should be addressed, but, it has to start at the top, and that means Estep and Carpenter.

Do you think they can and would be willing to change?

I've known Williard McBurney most of my life.  Why in the world would the Mayor of Corbin, a wonderful man with a heart for the city of Corbin, be concerned with a local web forum beyond exactly what he ran for office to do,...listen to what the people of Corbin think about things!?!  Now that I've read such a comment, he's going to laugh when I have to give him a call and ask him about it.  LOL

And as far as I know, every site has it's rules, regulations and you have to sign up, be approved, and then you're active.  Seems like a kooky thing to argue over.  Just sign up and quit using a suspicious IP like some kind of criminal mind.  Oops, that sentence is going to get the same reaction as if I stepped on my cats tail.  Well sorry, but if I were using an IP that got me kicked off any site, I'd change it.  Fast.

Welcome MerCSakes, I hope you enjoy the board, and participate often.

Willard is the most proactive mayor corbin has had in 30 years, and one of the most personable. I have yet to hear of him not listen to anyone, no matter where they live.

Congratulations to this message board Administrator on exceeding 5,700 posts in the past year and 300 different subjects. I take a look at those numbers on the Message Boards Home Page and it seems the growth has been accelerating in recent months.

It is of interest to have watched this board grow so well from its start until now. Thanks.

My Doctor won't allow me to get out of my house since I am in a body cast. What other wise suggestions do you have, jerk?

If you are jerking real bad you probably need to go back to your doctor. Maybe the MeBurney Center is not for you. You could also try to get your name on the waiting list at the Chapel House. Take care.

Sure is nice to see Bruce and Don back posting again. This sounds like a Bruce post. Must have picked up a new attitude in Mexico. Welcome back Bruce.

As much as some you on here obsess about Estep and Carpenter, and apparently follow them wherever they go and spy on them, I think they may need to consider some restraining orders or something or stalking charges. Some of you need to seek help.

I agree with the last post. I also think Don & Bruce have much better things to do with their time than argue with the people on this board.

I agree. Don and Bruce shouldn't be so obsessed with this board and should do a better job running a newspaper and getting jobs for our people. They need to get on a stick.

i DON'T THINK THEY ARE OBSESSED WITH THIS BOARD AS MUCH AS THE BOARD IS SO OBSESSED WITH THEM AND PUTTING THEM DOWN!

YES I AM A SUPPORTER OF EACH OF THEM AND ANYONE TRYING TO HELP GET CORBIN ON RIGHT TRACK. I AM ALSO A SUPPORTER OF THE MAIN STREET PROGRAM.

We all know that the truth hurts as do our 'leaders'! No one wants to admit or face the raw facts of ill complaints. Lesson's are to be learned here if the smarter man is taking notes.

This site DOES boost the energy of the people and it gives us all a way to voice our opinions and they are right here for other's to read and comment on. You can't do that and really be heard in a town meeting. This site is a good 'release' for what we all know and have to deal with... there is just SO much that isn't heard in our community about our leader's.. that would be slander and the site owner would be sued. So.. we keep dirty laundry to ourselves and keep doing the day to day thing...If everyone only knew the secrets and skeleton's of our 'town leaders'. (we'd all be voting a different way!) Sure we all may have a few in all of our closets... but fragrant roses our leader's are not. (not all of them anyway!!)

Bob Jr.. you keep up the wonderful work that this site is promoting. The good and the bad... who cares as long as it's the truth. Let the truth be known. Shoot... have you ever thought about getting a weekly newspaper and call it 'The Gossip'! No, Estep would just want that shut down too... a lot of the contents may be about him!! OH what Terry would find out!!!

Think about this... THIS is the only place that we can speak our mind and not get fired from our jobs by voicing our true opinions. It's all right here to read , unlikeand gossiping hens that hear and then they add to it and making it enormous at the end! It's all right here!! This is where I come to find out the reactions of the people. Where else do you go to find this out!!??? Not the paper!! (too many fragrant flower's blooming there!)

Your message board poll on yesterday's election came out very close to the actual results with 62-38 Beshear on your poll to 59-31 the actual results of the election. With a 3% margin of error it is right on. Steve Beshear's acceptance speech was excellent. He is going to be a great Governor.

Hey there WKUGirl,

No wonder you have no time for your bbff - you've been busy on this board!

Listen all you WKUGirl bashers - buzz off! WKUGirl has probably done more good for people in Corbin than all you combined! She is 100% honest, has integrity, and a big heart. Doesn't hurt that she's kinda purty too!

I support her and her comments!

Your BBFF!

She does look purty good in the picture on her billboard. Must have been good day when that was taken.
