You would think that all the advertisers would say something, as the majority are corbin business's, and most all the news is London's, sports included.
Les Dixon should move right on up there, and take Parson's with him.
"London Times Tribune" is what is should be called.
I agree look at Saturdays newspaper. It doesn't have anything on Corbin Sports. What about football and all the fall sports starting in Corbin. London will get great coverage in our paper, wait and see.
The Corbin paper is just the London paper over. The reporters in London e mail their stories down to Corbin to put in our paper. The only sports pictures usually are of Laurel Counties school. I agree lets stop ads until paper changes its sports pages. The sports writers are from London.
The sad thing about it is the weekly News Journal is Williamsurg paper. It is tied in with Nighbert and his group. This website is Corbin's best way to express our opinion on issuew.
Williamsburg doesn't have a newspaper though. London has its own newspaper and only puts in London stuff. They never cover Corbin. London Times Tribune needs to move to London or start covering Corbin.
Thats true about the W'burg paper, I had forgotten about that. Actually, it's Neighbert and Forcht controlled.
Seems I remember some time ago, the "other" london newspaper that went out of business, was bought up by the company that owns the Corbin Times, and they said it would now be a regional paper, with an office in London for reporters and such. Could be mistaken about that.
I have talked with numerous advertisers in corbin, and they are ticked off too, but, they want a weekly paper, and its the only one in town.
Many say they are fed up with the london articles and sports as well.
Les Dixon needs to move on up to london, buy him a house, and just stay there. He can take Chris Parsons with him, as well. Fred Petke does corbin stuff, but not much of it.
Lets just see how they cover nibroc this week, then compare it with the chicken festival.
Problem is, we're only here, and they don't really listen to us.
Its interesting that this subject has just now come up on here, because I've had several conversations just in the past couple weeks about this very topic, and it seems to be a pretty common opinion that the Times-Tribune is covering London Sports, London's Main Street program, and many other aspects of London news much heavier than Corbin. Why do you think this is?
Many people have forgotten already what fletcher has done for our area. Also look at LOndon Times Tribune today, it doesn"t have any corbin sports. South Laurel volleyball is main article!!!!!!!!! Hello, this is newspaper is located in Corbin. What a joke.
Just because Fletcher helps an area doesn't excuse him of the corruption, pardoning of dishonest employees, firing of merit system employees, effort to cut medical insurance of our teachers, taking government paid trips that are also campaign fund raising visits, and all the other questionable things done by his administration.
This Christian area of Eastern Kentucky often passes judgment on Democrats but if it is one of their own they forgive them of anything wrong they have done.
Getting back on point, the Corbin Times should print articles about Corbin and the London Times should print articles about London. There is plenty of sports news in Corbin without having to go to London to read about Laurel County sports. The only time we should see anything about Laurel County in Times Tribune is when Corbin beats them.
While some are critical about the Times, I believe Samantha Swindler is an excellent news person and writer. She is doing a good job for the Times Tribune and the people of this area.
Ms. Swindler does a good job at what she does, but, the London/Laurel issues are out of control.
We DO NOT want to read about london/laurel issues in corbin, just as they don't want to read about us in london. That's the way it is. This is NOT a regional paper, it's a local paper.
Why are the sports features concentrated on the laurel events. Mainly, because Les is assigned to them. SO, where is the corbin sports reporter, why isn't he/she doing the same. I though Chris Parsons was the corbin reporter, but see his name more often on laurel events than corbins.
Les Dixon used to do corbin sports, and did a good job. He was sent to london, and does a good job there now. So, we need someone in corbin to cover our sports and activities.
If they need to hire someone, the do it.
I tell all the advertisers I can to stop buy ads in the times and tell them why, because it doesn't report corbin issues and activities the way they do for london/laurel.
For the weekly news journal, sorry, you're a puppet for the whitley county crew, and no matter how you look at it, Fletcher may have tossed us some cash bones, but, he's one and done.
I'm kind of surprised that some of you still think of this paper as the "Corbin Times-Tribune". The Times-Tribune dropped "Corbin" from the name quite a few years ago when Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc. out of Birmingham, Alabama bought the paper, and has been promoted as "Serving Knox, Laurel and Whitley Counties" ever since.
They might be offiiced in Corbin, but it is no longer a "Corbin" newspaper and their goal is to sell newspapers throughout the tri-county area.
Why would London and Barbourville need newspaper coverage. They both have their own newspaper. It should be just the Corbin newspaper. Well at least put the majority of its articles, especially sports from Corbin. Do you really think the Corbin people want to read about London or Barbourville,in what we thought was a Corbin paper. I just feel we have enough local sports to cover in Corbin without going to London. What about boys and girls golf, cross country, volleyball, soccer, football, cheerleading and all other sports events happening in Corbin? There should be no reason to go and cover sports in London. I am just tired of opening the newspaper to the sports section and seeing Laurel County Schools as main article.
Whether you agree or not, a newspaper is in business, just like any other business, for one reason only: To make money. The Times-Tribune is a tri-county paper now, and they could care less that Barbourville has a paper, they still want to sell papers in Barbourville, and London, and Williamsburg, and everywhere else they can - that is their reason for being in business. You might not want to see London and Barbourville news in the paper, but that is not realistic thinking. Plus, there are some people here who do care what happens in those towns. Sorry, but it is 2007 and that is how media works these days.
I don't think its about London or Barbourville being in our paper. The point is just like todays sports section of Corbin Times Tribune, the main article and only article is on Laurel County School. Why not have Corbin Rehounds as main article and Laurel county school as sub group. I opened the London Paper and nothing is ever in about our Sports. Come on how about other sports that we can be featuring that are going on this fall. Do you really think the Times is selling papers in London and Barbourville. It is just easy for the Corbin Times to get the article from London and put them in our paper. This really is an issue that needs to be addressed and I am going to monitor all papers in area to see how they are doing!!!!!!!!!!I will keep reporting.
I think the key comment there was the paper was bought several years ago, and I believe it has been sold several more times. The paper is nothing but a piece of a puzzle. Hence the numerous management people they keep shuffling in and out. Swindler and Hanson will be gone soon, and someone else moving up the ladder will take their place, and so on and so on. None of them stay long. They don't have time to really become a part of the community.
Another comment there was "make money". You're right, that's the key. And making money is selling ads, not papers. I have told countless local business people about this issue, and have tried to convince them to use their own personal clout with regard to our sports. Stop buying ads, and they'll change their tune. And, us, the consumer, if we continue to press the business's, then maybe they'll listen to us.
The people of corbin owe no loyality to this paper, just as the paper has shown no loyality to us.

To sell ads, you must have circulation numbers, especially if you want to sell ads to London businesses, Barbourville businesses, Williamsburg businesses, and so on. Unfotunately Laurel County is also where the money is.
In todays Times it has North and South Laurel VOLLEYBALL as main article in a Corbin paper. there is not one sports article on Corbin. I phoned my friend who has a daughter who plays on Norths team, she said London does not cover volleyball. I told her about the Corbin paper and she said London people won't buy Corbin paper. WOW, so who in London is buying these papers? People of Corbin stop buying ads and papers until they realize we want some coverage. It doesn't have to be totally Corbin, but an article every day would be nice. We have all our fall sports starting. I have only seen previews for some of them. What about the rest of the sports.
Wow! I read the Times today also and have to agree, nothing at all about Corbin sports? Hard to believe all the Local activity and not a single Story? Mercy, I would urge Local Business to drop their advertising untill this is corrected.
Your throwing away your Money if your a Corbin Business as nothing pertains to Local Anything.
These Guys Guys are making Estep and his Bunch look like Local Hero's.
