RE: Times Tribune is London paper

People London has a paper.  What about Williamsburg and Barbourville.  Stop trying to take up for London Times Tribune.  I am trying to make a point to help them with their paper.  I have heard it for several years when the talk is on sports and how the Times covers London.  Even when Corbin beats London schools the slant is towards London team, defending them.  But when London beats Corbin its always slanted towards London being so dominate.  The people of Corbin and surrounding area laugh because it is the truth.  I would like to see the number of papers sold in each of these towns.

I also would like to see number of papers sold.  Not just papers taken to rack and thrown away.  The print doesn't lie.  Review past papers for a couple of years.

My ups man has a child who plays for a London team, is a star player.  she is in the Times quite often.  I told him she made our paper. He laughed and couldn't believe the Times would put her in our paper.  Many London residence laugh at us covering their sports.  They know the Times is a Corbin paper trying to appeal to London.  Its just like the weekly paper that tried to make it in London.  London just laughed and continue just to buy the their paper.  I am just trying to give the Times some good advise.  Stick to Corbin even Barbourville, and Williamsburg.  London has a paper.
I have many friends in London and they do not buy a Times, ever!

The sports page for Times continues to struggle.  If you read the paper today, it has a caption on girls soccer and article is on volleyball.  Also the JV team for Corbin Football had to submit their own picture.  Does this tell you anything?

The Times has finally put in a sports page worth reading today.  I am sure the people that have been on this site are pleased.  Finally put something on Corbin and Corbin Football.  What about the rest of the fall sports?

What a great response by Samantha Swindler a couple of weeks ago. She is what this town has needed, a newspaper person with guts.

As a lifelong Corbin resident who has kids that play sports for Corbin, I appreciate the coverage that the Times-Tribune provides.   Go back a few years ago and compare the high school coverage from then to now, you may be very surprised.   The number of AP articles that people are really not interested in has dropped dramatically and the number of local stories has increased.  Their sports coverage is much better than the News Journals in my opinion since Trent Knuckles moved over to the news division, although he may have them beat in that area.

The daily paper wants to be an area-wide paper, much like the Danville Advocate, Elizabethtown's paper, etc.   There is a lot of coverage from Laurel County in the late summer, much of it has to do with the success of their summer softball program which may be the best in the state.

I prefer Corbin stories, but I would rather read about Cody Miller from Knox Central, Lauren Wombles from South Laurel, Joe Roskoph from Lynn Camp  and  Will Moses from Williamsburg than reading the recap of last nights MLB games.

Wow! I read the Times today also and have to agree, nothing at all about Corbin sports? Hard to believe all the Local activity and not a single Story? Mercy, I would urge Local Business to drop their advertising untill this is corrected.

Your throwing away your Money if your a Corbin Business as nothing pertains to Local Anything.

These Guys Guys are making Estep and his Bunch look like Local Hero's.

Well said mr estep...I mean "anonymous".

In todays paper it was all about Laurel Co sports. Even when Corbin is defeated by another team they rub it in with catchy headlines. Everyone knows its not just a Corbin paper. It has writers not for Corbin sports. It is obvious on how they write the articles. Once again the advertizers need to take a look at this. If they would step up and say enough is enough then things will change.

I work at a physical therapy place locally and we have all but stopped advertising in the tribune because they have abandoned Corbin. Let them go to London or, even better, close. they haven't been a paper for our community in a long time.

Once again the Times failed to report the sports correctly. The corbin girls team played yesterday at home in district play. The score was 2-0 with 10 min to go in contest. The refs call three questionable calls for pushing (remember it was a very physical game throughout) they get three direct kicks on goal and scored each one of them to win the game.

The times reporter even said when leaving to corbin parents, corbin got cheated!

The reporter then reports a story in todays paper in favor of guess who? Yes north laurel!
Read it. Its a joke. It should have read something like this Corbin girls get robbed! Or something more toward Corbin.

I hope the News Journal gets it right this week in their paper. The Corbin girls deserve better coverage than that. They played one of the best games ever for girls soccer. They dominated the entire game until last few min. when the of course refs from Laurel co had to help them out.

I just wish the paper would have printed a more accurate story!

Games should not be determined by the refs. If they let it go all game why call it in the end to give the game to one team or another?

Someone needs to tell Chris Parsons he blew the coverage for Corbin Girls Soccer Team. He even admitted to how bad it was. He was to scared to publish the real story. Instead he writes a story about Laurel Co and quotes their coach. When in fact the Corbin girls outplayed the North Laurel girls the entire games.

It might hurt their london sales. I guess he was afraid he would get fired if he gave accurate account of the game. Or maybe it shows his true colors of Blue/Green instead of Corbin Red Hounds!

Tonight at boys game it was the topic of conversation in the stands. How the Corbin girls got bad calls and also got terrible coverage from its own newpaper.

We even have video of how bad the calls were and how the refs should not have made them that late in the game. The refs allowed pushing all game and even some of the Corbin players went down and no call. Its just a shame the game ended that way. Refs should not make calls that hurt the outcome of a great game.

First of all, these are some pretty harsh allegations from a few people who don't even have the guts to put a name to a comment. But then again, that seems to be what this site is all about. Everyone gets on here to put their two cents in, but they don't have the cohonas to stand up and take account for their words. If you ask me, your complaints don't carry water because you have no guts. Question: If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to here it, does it make a sound? Let me rephrase that; If a complaint comes in and no one takes credit, does it count for anything?
I say no!
If you really want to complain, I say call Mr. Parsons at his place of work and voice your opinion to him. He is a man and I'm sure he can handle anything you have to say, if he knows who is saying it. Imagine that, being the bigger person about something being held accountabel for your words! That's a scary thought! At least he puts his name on everything he writes.
Have a nice day all.

You seem to use anonymous as your call sign while you complain about others using anonymous. I don't think you should blame this website because someone criticizes the Times Tribune. For someone who doesn't like it you seem to be reading it.

We all read it, obviously, or we wouldn't be complaining. As far as anonymous, I figured since no one else was doing it, why should I put my name out there.

For the record, I never said I didn't like the Times. they do the best job with what they have whihc is two full time guys to cover a total of eight schools, which is 16 teams during basketball and baseball season.
I like both Les and Chris and the work they do, but we have to remember, no one is perfect.
I know this, if someone came into one of our places of work and started criticizing us, I'm not sure how long some of us could stand idly by. I know for a fact those guys have been verbally abuse on more than one occasion for what they write, buut they still do it so my hat goes off to them. I wouldn't wnat that job.

I got my paper today and read the special sports insert. I now understand what many have been posting about our Corbin paper. Its a shame that Laurel County had the front page picture plus also the largest photo from the tournament. They were taken by our own Bill Hanson.'
How can they do that to our high school athletes? I wish the paper would explain that one. Our girls also made it to state and to see that makes me sick. I hope the football team doesn't get shafted like the other fall sports have. Our girls deserve better than that from our local paper.

The paper Saturday was just a bad. London doesn't put us in their paper at all . Why does corbin feel so incline to putting Laurel Sports in a Corbin paper. Once again they have their own coverage.

Could it be because the Corbin paper is not printed in Corbin any more. And the London printer would not print it?

I know the owner own both London and Corbin paper. Why do they want to put Laurel Co. sports in both papers.

Once again, someone has to defend the paper to the masses who do not understand the newspaper business. First of all, the Times-Tribune is a Tri-County paper. If you're counting, that's three counties with two reporters.
As far as the Laurel County stuff, get over it. By the way, I have information that one Corbin person actually turned down the Times for a Sports Insider story, which I think is pretty childish. I have said it before and I will say it again, if you people don't have anything else to worry about in life other than what story is made big in the paper, I say you live some sorry lives.
For the record, I'm sure the football Hounds won't get the so called "treatment" you speak of. I hear they are pretty good this season. If you don't believe me, just read the Times every Saturday (except this week because they are on a bye week)

First, Hire more reporters. Second I am glad someone stood up to paper. Third we are talking about high school athletes who are reading about London in the paper over their sports. They are just chldren and want to know why our paper is favoring London. Football is once again only one sport. I would much rather read about Williamsburg, Lynn Camp or Knox Central as to open the paper daily to see London sports. They have their own paper. Do they need that much publicity. I hope the advertizers realize that the people of corbin, and I know a lot of them are sick of the coverage of Corbin sports.
Surely you are not that blind or dumb not to see what has been happening to our local sports and paper. Defend all you want but people have seen the truth. Its not something you can hide or ignore.

First of all, I think the PARENTS are making more of a deal of this than the students would even imagine. Most of these kids (yes Corbin and London kids can get along, except soccer people, you can never satisfy them) can live in the same world with, you guessed it, one paper to cover all.
Question: What is the difference in seeing Knox Central and Lynn camp in the paper, when they too have their own paper I.E. The Barbourville Advocate. I guess that's not such a big deal because those schools don't have soccer teams, therefore they can't beat up on Steely and his band of generous defenders on the pitch.
Look get over it, quit being such babies and get your son, and or daughter ready for next season. Maybe he or she can score a goal that matters and when the team needs it, like in the postseason!!!!!!!

Sounds like you are aiming this at a particular group or parents! You would be suprised who gets on and post. Some use other peoples computers etc. Be careful trying to figure it out. Its not always who you think it is.
Defend the London Times all you want! Its still a loser paper with loser people running it. Thats why a sports writer applied to be a corbin cop! huh! Great paper? Great Job? Put 2 and 2 together! I don't depend on a paper to pay my bills.
FYI Lynn Camp is located in Corbin.

I guess someone hit a nerve huh! Truth hurts!

Maybe the paper can settle this by doing one of those polls in paper. see just what the high school athletes actually like in the paper. You say it is the parents. Well, actually it is the parents buying the paper, isn't it. Shouldn't they want their school in over out of town school.
I am sure they will not vote for London sports to be put in over theirs. But this poll would apparently settle any questions. Just like we now know who is the best of the best. Very accurate account of who people like.
Ask the volleyball players and parents if they liked the south Laurel team in over theirs when they both went to state? Ask the cross country about their coverage? Do a poll see what your readers want!

Yes you got it right the parents buy the papers. What is the Times thinking! Who ever responded from the Times is wrong. Attacking parents and players is ridiculous. I wish they would have signed their name. If I were Hanson, which i am glad I am not. I would find out who wrote that back. The poster is right, the paper is still in the wrong.
Come up with something else besides that response, very weak!
Just like in todays paper. Laurel County had the main article. Why? What about Lynn Camp or even Whitley as being main article. It really doesn't make sense.

Goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on people, the Times is trying to cater to everyone in the Tri-County, unfortunatley most of the AD base is in Corbin.

My advice, I would URGE Corbin Business's to use Radio or some other means of Advertising, even cut back some. These folks are not helping your base Of Customers at all trying to Cater to London.

Simply STOP Advertising in the London Times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Corbin Sports parents should look closely at the Business Folks that Advertise in the times and try to avoid spending money with them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
