Corbin Soccer

It's great to see the kids playing a lot of soccer up at the Civic Center. It is amazing to see how many kids and spectators are involved in this program.

Let's be sure to keep this support for our boys and girl's soccer program. 1

Did you notice how many kids there were on the fire trucks.  They has 3 loaded full of boys and girls soccer players. What a big group of kids.

I agree. Soccer is a great sport for boys and girls.  For years Corbin's Recreational Department short changed the soccer program.  Corbin High School has excellent soccer coaches, and their boosters are very loyal. When Dennis Lynch was Chairman of the Tourism Commission he and the members of that group, and the Rotary Club were very helpful in getting space at the Civic Center fixed for more soccer fields.

Soccer is a team sport and it is really catching on with our youth.

The Soccer Program has grown despite the little support from the Recreation director, especially in the early years. The sport is bigger than Corbin Football now and will soon be the preferred sport within the next 5-10 years.

The Coaches are personable & approachable, easy to talk to and great recruiters. No Question the best atheltes are now moving into the Soccer program.

Nice Job

Soccer was considered a nuisance by the Recreational Department for years. It is great to see it growing for boys and girls.

We better watch out or the soccer fields will be taken over by football.  The strange thing about Corbin's football program is that in middle school we have super teams, but by the time these boys become seniors only a few of them are still playing. The retention rate for players moving on to high school is terrible. Why?

Lets keep this site on soccer and how its is really progressing.  The parade last night shows there is real interest.  Great job to coaches, parents and boosters who support all these kids.  You can tell those kids love soccer.  If someone could tell me how to get high school schedule, I would love to attend games.

Hurray! Finally we have a way to talk about soccer! Thanks!  Coach Cima should go into the Redhound Hall of Fame!

Actually Marcus Cima should be first to go into Hall of Fame.  He was greatest soccer player to play in Corbin.  Next year we all need to send in our nominations for him to get  in.

I agree about Marcus. That is a good suggestion. Coach Cima also should be inducted. His patience, teaching, and compassion for the players and the game of soccer is outstanding.

The parents and supporters of Corbin's soccer program did a fine job at NIBROC again. These people and Corbin's coaches have shown a great team spirit as they have worked together to establish a fine program at all levels.

We can be proud of the work they do and the fine soccer program we have in Corbin.

I heard many people bragging about the soccer program at  Corbin High School. Some of the adults who work hard for the program don't have children playing anymore, but they remember when one or more of their kids were on the team and they are still loyal to the program.

Another good thing about soccer is that the kids can play the sport and still have another life. Football, and basketball are getting to require a full year focus. The AAU basketball program has broken up many family's opportunity to take a vacation. Thank goodness they did not have AAU when I was playing. In the summer I played baseball, went swimming and we always took a vacation even if we didn't go to a far off exotic place. I never practiced spring football. I went to football camp in mid-August and played through the season. When a new coach came in after I was a starter my junior year he told me if I didn't practice spring football I would go to camp in August as a third string player. I told him spring was for baseball. I went to August football practice as a third stringer but by the first game I was a starter again. And I got scholarship offers in football to three different colleges.

We have turned some sports into programs for parents, coaches, and fans......
and not for our younsters. Some good athletes grow up believing society owes them something special. They have been spoiled.

I have not seen this as I have followed soccer. I don't believe the parents have ruined that sport yet.

My child plays soccer.  Its not about Soccer vs any other sport.  I think its great to give all kids a chance to be involved in something in high school.  A poster put it well on one of these sites.  After high school who even remembers what your child played, unless you become a division 1 player.  After high school it doesn't matter if you were a Redhound soccer player or redhound football etc.  Who in Lex., Louis., Hazard and Knox. is going to know what redhound anything is.  We all need to work together to provide the best possible sports program we can for ALL students and athletes. Not everyone can play the major sports.  I would like to post this on all rehound sports sites.

Soccer is still new to this area, relative to B ball and F ball,  so it hasn't reached it's full capacity yet, as far as time involved in the sport by the kids. I've lived in larger towns and cities, and their soccer programs are literally equal with the other ball sports.

Once our soccer reaches the level of success that B Ball and F Ball has achieved here, then the devotion of time requirements will come along with them.  For now, kids can do other things outside the season. But, that will end soon.  As these coach's develop their teams, and their players, and begin to see results from the younger feeder programs, they'll know that the more time spend on the practice field, in off season leagues, as a group, they will have to have more time devoted to the program.

For now, enjoy it.  When our corbin program begins to excel and succeed, which it has and will, be prepared to pay the price with regard to time, effort, and dedication to the sport.

Dr. Muffley has been one of the people doing a good job advocating the boys and girls soccer program. It's good to see soccer have some space at the Civic Center to have a good program. The supporters of soccer have had to have the survivor instinct because they have not always been given the resources of other sports. This program is great for boys and girls. Keep up the good job! The more of our children who can participate in one or more of our sports programs the better off we will be in future years.

Yes I agree with last poster.  The old way of playing senior  just because they are seniors needs to be a thing of the past.  Play the best players.  Soccer has moved a head of football.  The soccer program needs to take advantage of its success.

No Question Soccer is King now, the parents are all chatting about this at the Schools, Stores, Church etc. Very happy to see Soccer has elevated well past the Football Program!!!!

PS-------Who owns the Corbin High School Practice Field??? I thought the School & Board Of Education owned that Field, why are the Football Coach's running this field?? We have players scattered all over this city playing soccer and this field right next to the high school does not get used???

Give the Soccer Team this Field and let it be used by a real program that has parents and kids excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing people seem to be forgetting, football's gate pays the bills for all other sports. Maybe they are entitled to some special treatment.

The money from football has never been applied to soccer, just ask pete booth who is in charge of soccer team.  Don't start that, if it weren't for St. Camillus the soccer program would not even have a place to play or practice for years.  it has only been in the last several years they have been allowed to play on THE FOOTBALL FIELD!  The only thing soccer wants is to be able to play on the field.

The Board Of Education and Superintendent should be ashamed of themselves, not only has the Football Coach's & Recreational Director shafted the Soccer Program they have forced their own Little League Program to Rent the Football Field at Lynn Camp, what?????????????????????????????????????

The Kids coming up in Soccer or Little League Football can not use a Practice Field at the High School????????????????????????????????????????????

The only thing going at this Practice Field is Jewel watering it every night and using it as his personal property. The Board Of Education needs to get a Backbone and put a Neutral 3rd party in Charge of all Corbin Tax Payer Funded facilities!!!!!!!
