RE: Corbin Soccer

Maybe basketball should tell volleyball and all the other sports who use the High school gym they can't use it they may mess up the court.  How do you think that would go over.  Come on people its 2007 not in the 1960 etc.

The Board Of Education and Superintendent should be ashamed of themselves, not only has the Football Coach's & Recreational Director shafted the Soccer Program they have forced their own Little League Program to Rent the Football Field at Lynn Camp, what?????????????????????????????????????

The Kids coming up in Soccer or Little League Football can not use a Practice Field at the High School????????????????????????????????????????????

The only thing going at this Practice Field is Jewel watering it every night and using it as his personal property. The Board Of Education needs to get a Backbone and put a Neutral 3rd party in Charge of all Corbin Tax Payer Funded facilities!!!!!!!

Regarding field space ... folks it's a problem.  We are fortunate to have City leaders, including the Mayor & all Commissioners, working with all recreational leagues and Tourism.  Tim Barnes and the Tri-Co Youth Sports Authority are doing a great job of organizing, planning and trying to build a first class program for football and basketball.  The Tri County Youth Soccer Association is committed to the same ideals.  During the City Council hearing on the Civic Center property development on 8/15/07 the demand for field space was discussed.  The discussion was brief as it was quickly determined the demand for space exceeds the supply.  Fortunately, the Civic Center property provides some solutions as will the new field that will accompany the new elementary school on Fifth St.  Please don't think school administration or coaches are telling soccer you can not play on our field.  The high school football / soccer field is extremely busy with dates nearlly impossible to come by in the fall.

With patience from everyone, all will have a place to play in the very near future!  In the meantime, let the volunteers and City leaders know you appreciate their efforts in investing in the health and welfare of our area children.

Terry Pugh, President
Tri County Youth Soccer Assoc.

This Tri-County Youth Sports Authority, other than Tim Barnes, who is on this committee or members of this group. We need to know so we have people to contact about issues such as this. How was this group formed, and is it independent, sponsored by the school, etc.  Please post their names here, as they are not public figures if they are involved in the use of our school and city properties for sports.

And this Tri-County Youth Soccer Association, the same with them. Who are the officers of this group, and are they independent, etc, etc, etc.,

Are you non profit, do you have elections and by laws, is there a chain of command, and are there committees within these two organizations. If so, who are they.

Two new groups here, relatively new to the area from what I know.  I read this in the paper the other night, and asked around about it but no one could tell me anything. Please let us know the pecking order of these groups.

i can answer your question on behalf of the TCYSA.  First of all, we are not a new organization.  We are loosely organized from a legal entity point of view.  We are a group with an interest in soccer, that for most of us, was thrust upon us by our children's interests in the sport.  Our Board includes:  Sarah Pugh, Dr. David Muffley, Mike Haggard, Pete Booth, Coach Cima (CHS Boy's Coach) and Coach Steely (CHS Girl's Coach).  Officer's titles really do not mean much in a volunteer organization but I serve as the President and have since we formed in 03.

"Please post their names here, as they are not public figures if they are involved in the use of our school and city properties for sports."     I'm not clear on the intent of this statement or motive.  But please know, not a single person on our Board is in this for anything other than the welfare of our kids.  If the child learns a little about soccer while exercising then that's just dandy too!

Now, I've told you who I am and who our Board Members are.  I would like to know who I shared this information with.hmm

Sorry, I have not figured out the edit feature of this board yet.  But the above post by Terry P was written by Terry Pugh, TCYSA President.smile

After re-reading that post several times, I really think it was meant to say ",,,,as they ARE public figures if they are involved in the use of our city and school properties,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,".  I truly think that's what it meant. Could be wrong, but it wouldn't read properly if not said that way.

Is this TCYSA and the TCSA the same or different organizations.  Tim Barnes is mentioned in one, and yourself, Terry Pugh, in another.  If different, what is the purpose and scope of the TCSA that Barnes is with.

I ask this because I too have loosely heard of these groups, but this is the first time any names have been associated with them.

I'll bet you knew who Steve Jewell & His Brother is, right. If your really following school activities you would know these things as believe it or not they are ALL a part of the Corbin School System.

Loosely heard of these Groups?? Where ya been, the number of Kids playing Soccer is five times higher than football, did ya even know we had 400 -500 Kids even playing Soccer? This does not even count the Kids playing Golf, Tennis, Vollyball, ETC.

I am glad to see so many people playing and supporting soccer.  Its funny how all sports are treated so differently.  The high school coaches have been told to keep as many players as they can on their soccer rosters while football can do what they want.  I think this has helped soccer grow to over 70 players for boys team and over 25 for girls team in high school alone.  I believe this is more than the football team together.  Take a look at the numbers, look at what each program cost and then see who is using all the money from gates for their program.  Soccer doesn't get much money from school.  The nibroc money helps keep the cost down for each player.  Ask the football parents how much they have to pay vs. what soccer players have to pay.  Also look at other sports as well.  Golf is very expensive to play, how much does school help them.

I'll put this here and in the soccer thread too.

Is there only certain times that the soccer teams want the fields, like between 4 and 7 , or not on saturdays or sundays, or not on wednesdays. What times are they wanting them.

Are there lights at some of the fields, or none of them.

Years ago, and I don't know if this still happens, when my oldest played ball in middle school and below, they wouldn't practice on wednesday nights due to church. Is that still true now?

The more you tell us about your situation, the more support you may get in the long run.

Actually Marcus Cima should be first to go into Hall of Fame.  He was greatest soccer player to play in Corbin.  Next year we all need to send in our nominations for him to get  in.

Might need to seek a second opinion on this one!!  Or better yet, seek experienced guidance from those who have been with Corbin soccer from the start.

I have talked to many who say he and Coach Cima should go in first.  It was from the coach himself who said Marcus Cima was best player ever at Corbin.

Take a look at some of the posts in the Hall of Fame threads.  The varsity club nor hall of fame committee hasn't posted any criteria as to how they decide on who gets in.  Sad to say it doesn't look good for any soccer player.  Just based on their comments they have to be a little bit better than just All-District or All-Region players.

I guess when need to stop worrying who is going in because the will never put a soccer player in the hall of fame.  You can count on this post.  there is no criteria for other sports  to go in I promise it will never include soccer.

The respone to this post sounds like the typical jerk who gets on this site and thinks they know it all.  I bet you have never played sports in your life.

Don't get discouraged. There was a period of time when  some of Corbin's best baseball players had not made the Redhound Hall of Fame. In the last several years several have made it. There are some female athletes who have finally made the Hall of Fame.

There are more sports and more kids competing. That is a good problem to have. But in the next years we must recognize athletes from all our sports.

Each year when they ask for nominations be sure to send in some for the Athletes you believe  deserve it most. If there is any data attach it to the nomination form.  Become active in the Varsity Club. The Varsity Club gives a gift each year to Corbin High School and each sport, girls and boys, receives a share of it.

Thanks for the encouragement.  The varsity club has been good to boys and girls soccer.  I would like to thank them for their contribution.  It is greatly appreciated.

You would be surprised.  My previous posts may have sounded rough, but I do not mean any ill will by them.  I think it's great that we could possibly nominate soccer players and have them put into the hall of fame.  I just think that if we nominate people they need to represent the sport in a similar fashion as previous hall of famers in other sports have.  It's going to be hard for someone from soccer to get into it, since we are the ones that have been looked down upon for so many years, unless they have really proved something in the sport.
Coach Cima would be a great example of this.  With the help of the Soccer Boosters and parents, they originally started the program when it was not welcomed with open arms.  Look at the second, third and fourth year programs from the start - they established a baseline for the program.

I don't think any of us intend to be like a typical jerk. And you belitle the people who respond to this message board when you say those kinds of things.  I am sure there would be some disagreement on which soccer player should go in first, but isn't it better to discuss these issue than to let them fester and cause people to believe they can't express his or opinion? Let's just try to show more respect for each other.

You're right!  I only meant to express my opinion which this board was established for.  I apologize to any I may have offended.  Everyone has an opinion and in no way should anyone feel at anytime that they can't express their feelings about anything - freedom of speech, right.  I respect the opinions of all who post comments on this site and intend no harm by expressing my opinions.  Words can easily be misconstrued by anyone.

I have been following this forum about Corbin soccer.  The thought of a soccer player possibly being inducted into the hall of fame is very exciting.  Corbin soccer has always been the underdog of all of the sports.  However, if there are going to be possible nominations for an inductee, I think there should be consideration of more than one player.  As an avid soccer fan, I have followed the Corbin soccer program from the beginning.  I think that anyone who has ever followed Corbin soccer, and knows anything about the sport, would know the one person in Corbin soccer history that comes to mind as an outstanding player and representative for Corbin Soccer is Daniel Valentine.  He encouraged Coach Cime to start the soccer program at Corbin.  He excelled in not only playing in the goal, but as a field player as well.  He was one of 60 athletes in the US to be chosen to play for the US Ambassadors soccer team, representing soccer in countries in Europe (what a great example of a Corbin soccer player to represent our small town.)

I agree that Daniel would be the best choice for a soccer player inductee.
