The girl's soccer team opens district play tonight at home against North Laurel with the game starting at 8:00.   The boy's team plays Tuesday at South Laurel against the winner of tonight's game between North Laurel and Middlesboro.   The community needs to come out and support both these teams.   Good Luck!

Thanks for reminding us.  Good luck to the Redhound soccer teams!

Corbin girls played District tournament tonight at Campbell field. The girls out played North Laurel for 70 min. Then the last 10 minutes the Lady Hounds were leading 2 to 0 when as usuall
the refs stepped in a called not one but three terrible calls agains the girls.

The laurel co girls won 3 to 2 on at least 2 calls that should have been indirect kick instead they gave them a direct kick to our goal. Yes it was cheat city for the refs.

If you see the Corbin players please congratulate them on an outstanding game they should have won and then moved on to play in regions.

As for the refs its another cheat city for one of the Laurel Co schools.

The headlines tomorrow needs to read Corbin girls 2 refs 2 and north laurel girls 1

Thats exactly how it went.

hopefully the newspaper will report it right, as everyone in the stands saw it as well

girls played fantastic and should be the winners

Just like basketball last year when laurel co had 6 players on court at end of game that was never called. The reporters never mention it.

Eric did a great job with our girls and should be Coach of the Year!

It is a shame to have to lose on calls like that. Our girl's and boy's programs are going in the right direction and we are proud of both teams.

The center ref decided to determine the winner of the game instead of letting the girls on the field win or lose it themselves.    It was if he had a vested interest in the outcome.    The Corbin girls deserved a better fate than the one handed out to them.   Hopefully the boys can get some revenge tonight.

I hate to lose this way, heck, I even hate to win that way.

Well the London Times messed up the article. I guess they are still trying to sell papers in London.

GIRLS DESERVED BETTER ARTICLE THAN WHAT TIMES TRIBUNE GAVE THEM TODAY. SHAME ON THEM FOR SUCH POOR COVERAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right, I expect the News Journal will do a better job with this game than the Tribune.    The daily was afraid to make their London readers mad by mentioning the controversy.
I have to give credit to the girl from North Laurel for her great shots, I just don't feel as though she should have gotten the opportunities.

IF ANYTHING, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN 2 IN DIRECT KICK. OF COURSE THEY WOULD GIVE HER FREE KICKS!

So, is anyone going to email the reporter and ask why he did it that way.

I wish someone would do that, I looked at the paper and the article is written by Chris Parsons.

Whomever decides to email Chris Parsons, needs to have been at the game so they would have first hand knowledge.

Parsons has to cover his tail, if he had wrote about the bad calls in favor of the laurel county school, they wouldn't let him in their games anymore, and he would lose his royalties from printing all the laurel schools stories and pictures every week.

Corbin boys team beat North 2-0 last night to advance to the district championship game Thursday against South Laurel.    Corbin had some players step up and play well and help lead them to the win.   It was well officiated and the teams decided the game with their play on the field, they way it should happen.

Read the News Journal about the Corbin/North game. They got it exactly right! Thank you Jim Mcalister for reporting what actually happened.

Pick up the News Journal today and Read the article. The refs should not have called any of those calls that late in contest. The players should have decided the game not the refs. Especially when the girls had already been very physical with each other.

The center ref should not have made those calls, we even have video to back up jims newpaper report.

It's sad when this happens. Just like last years South Laurel game when they had 6 players on the floor.

I saw the match vs N. Laurel and read the NewsJournal's account of the game as well. I didn't read the article as Jim being critical of the center offical, he just stated the center official made the calls. It's pretty darn rare for there to be a score off a direct kick, much less three in a row!

As for the officiating, I thought the officials did a really good job. The center official has called a few of the Corbin games this year and is good. The other two officials are arguably the best in the region. Was the girl from N Laurel lucky, the Hounds unlucky or does Corbin lack experience at many of its positions? Scoring from 35-40 yards out on a direct kick I would suggest the defense should make the stop.

I just do not blame the officials for this loss. The argument over a direct or indirect kick, I don't know the answer. However, the next time you see an official I bet you can ask & the official will explain the rule. Again, players have to make plays and in time, with our Coaches, these kids will make plays.

With that amount of time left on the clock the ref should not make those types of calls. I watched the North and South girls game tonight and it was just in consistant as the Corbin North game. The players don't know what the refs are calling half the time.

I would like to know if this poster has a child who plays for corbin and what experience you have with the game. As we can see everyone has an opinion and when it determines the outcome of the game they should let the players decide it. Its a "No Call" or as the Refs say it "play on".

She was only 20 yards out on all three kick not 30 to 40. We also have video to show they should be a no call.

You need to read The Sentinol it said just the opposite of Jims article. Wow! I guess its how you view it and how biased you are for one team or another. I agree the no call is what should have been called.

The Sentinol said we threw down the player on third foul. I didn't see it like that.

The poster two up sounds like someone didn't care if Corbin won or lost.

I have been around the game now for 15 years. It's unfortunate the game ended this way but I agreed with the calls. You cannot extend your arms in front of you nor can you raise your arms to your side and make contact. If you do then the official can make the call. If you push hard enough to change the course of the player, it's a foul. Similar to a foul in basketball, the call is subjective on the offical's part. There were a few fouls called earlier in the match against one or two corbin players for pushing. There's a trend and the official will continue those calls, even if the other team is "flopping" on contact.

I will agree the game winning goal was closer to 20-25 yards out. The ball was struck a little outside the 18 and would have taken a heckuva play by the keeper to stop. The second goal was well beyond the 18 thus making the goal from about 30 yards.

A question back to you. If the teams' circumstances had been reversed, would you still feel it should be a "no call and play on?" I don't disagree there are times when you don't make a minor call, say inside the 18, that leads to a PK and decides the game. But if there's a foul you have to call it as long as there's time left on the referee's watch. JMHO

The official should not be totally blamed for the loss, but he gave North Laurel the opportunity to win by changing the way the game was called when they got desperate and were playing very aggressively.   The contact on two of the calls(the other I still have no idea what the call was) was initiated by the North Laurel player, there was no way the Corbin defender could avoid the contact, so it is either a no call or a foul on the offensive player in my opinion.   The center ref was by far the weaker of the three refs and should not have been in that position in a district match, let him get that experience during the regular season and then he may handle the pressure better than he did Monday night.   He failed to call an obvious handball on North in the box when Corbin was ahead 2-0 when he was less than 10 yards away with an unobstructed view.
Ask Jim McAlister his personal opinion on those calls and you will get a MUCH stronger response, that I will guarantee.

CHS had a few pushing fouls called throughout the match. This can set the tone of how the official "sees" things. Were these "blown" calls? We can debate for a long time. Instead, I'll concede and say the center official blew the call. Your defense must still stand up to the challenge. I do not mean this to be derogatory toward the girls, good grief it's their 3rd coach in 4 years. However, blaming the officials for the loss is silly.

Was the center official the weakest of the three? Probably, but is still a very good official.

Lets call a spade a spade here folks. Your keeper is the player that accepts the responsibility of keeping the other team from scoring. The keeper is the one who allowed the three goals, yet I here she was given a All Tournament award along with the Clark girl. Clark yes, keeper no. I think the Baylor kid played her tail off and should have gotten the other award. After all, the keeper allowed all three goals, which if you are counting, resulted in the 3-2 loss. So, blame the team, the coach, even the fans if you want to. But to take your problems out on a couple of reporters like House and the Parsons kid is wrong. The fact is, if McCalister had written it any other way, he is the one that probably would have been fired. The funny thing is, he is the one that lives in London, whose kid goes to South Laurel and who supports all things Laurel through is taxes and school board council seat or whatever. And you guys think Dixon and Parsons are London boys, at least they live in Whitley County!!!!!!!!
by the way, coach of the year should got to Naomi Puskar.
