Oh, you must mean letting the majority of the kids running around in circles kicking at rocks or grass as the ball is on the other side. Or you must mean having 12-14 teams versus 4. Is that your player participation.
The kids get off their duffs from their computers and put down their cell phones long enough to get sweaty. I've seen the masses out there running around. It's only soccer cause they play with a soccer ball.
Young kids quit football because they realize it's "work", and they don't want to "work" cause they can be on myspace all day long.

Ok, I'll take your bait. For the life of me I do not understand why one sport must thump its chest and say their sport produces the superior athlete! This is simply beyond comprehension. Is Tiger Woods any less an athlete than Peyton Manning? Tiger can't throw a 50-yard spiral to a world class sprinter on the fly & I seriously doubt Payton can drive a golf ball 325 yards, yet you can appreciate each athlete for their respective skills.
As for your comment regarding participation, the youth soccer association I work with guarantees each child will play a minimum of one half of the game. Small sided games are played allowing more kids on the field and fewer kids on the sidelines watching. Small sided games allow all players the opportunity to touch the ball and a greater chance of scoring, which by the way they think is a lot of fun.
It's recreation and for some 4 year olds recreation is kicking a rock while the others are playing magnet soccer. Maybe the youth soccer associations across the country owe you an aplogy because today you didn't get to see a 4 year old rip a bicycle kick into the upper corner.
Stop worrying about the sport they play and support the child. Gee whiz!
While the previous poster is entirely correct, he/she is posting it in the wrong area I feel. I know your responding, but, the initial post in this thread is what started this type of conversation. This is a no win thread no matter how you look at it.
The issue in this thread is the assumption of football being behind soccer, a relatively new sport in this area. Yes, it is, a relatively new sport.
That said,
your description of the activities is the same as youth league basketball and baseball, everyone plays. It used to be the same in little league football years ago, but that changed and it has never been the same.

The number of kids playing high school football have been up the last couple of years as well as the number playing high school soccer. Some kids prefer football, some prefer soccer.
The more kids who particiapate the better as far as I'm concerned. They tend to be better students and the discipline involved in both sports tends to keep most out of trouble. Coach Cima and Coach Jewell both do an excellent job.
I agree. The more of our kids who participate in one or more of our sports the better off we will be. Competition and teamwork are valuable characteristics.
No Question, these guys are self destructing. The Jewels are now a sparkling 13-13 over two years and one game, coach's drunk an arrested, a loss at Belfry last night by Double Digits, great players quiting and playing at other schools.
The sad thing is the kids and parents have given so much time and hard work but there never gonna win with the Current Type of coach's at the helm. I would encourage those Atheletes to take up Soccer and do something with your time that is fun and means more.
The positive thing about our sports program is that we have some wonderful young people, girls and boys, competing. They are a good example for our community, win or lose.
Let's give our best support to these young people. Our cheerleaders, dance team, band and ROTC Color Guard also do a fine job. The students who lead prayer and sing our National Anthem at games inspire all of us.
We are blessed with some fine students, teachers, and fans.
Enough with the criticism of football. Burley simply made a mistake like all of us do everyday. The difference is he has admitted his mistake and has taken responsibility for it. Burley is very passionate man with strong opinions. We should support all Corbin sports not just soccer and basketball.
The previous poster is refering to Burley???? This is the guy who helped put Whitley Co in the worse financial debt in History! Voted for a payroll Tax on us. May be Passionate/ But RESPONSIBLE?????
After the 21-0 manhandling by Belfry the boys didnt get home until 5 in the morniing. why dont we play local teams. to drive 3 hours to get beat is silly. We need to use better sense. Think of just the wasted gas.

I'm sure the point of the other night was exposure to a pretty large WYMT TV audience in Eastern Kentucky, and it had to begin at 10pm after the CBS prime time shows. But even more important to some, the couple grand or so the school disctict probably picked for the game being televised.
Think of the kids in ours and other areas that may be contemplating a move to this area, and they know that Corbin Football has a chance over the other schools in the area to play on TV.
Not to mention the high quality of education the corbin school system offers, that the others DO NOT.
Lets call it what it is, its a good recruiting tool.
Let me get this straight, we played at 10 PM on a Friday night which is one Mile from West Va, the Game is in the WYMT viewing area which is only Eastern Ky, not Lexington or Knoxville. The Game ends at 1AM, we get beat 21 to nothing and this is a good recruiting tool??
We may have helped Belfry out just a little but this did nothing for our program or the area, it's 4 Hours over to this place! We could have hosted Laurel, Whitley or Lynn Camp and had a bigger crowd, a better gate and everyone been home by 11:30 PM.
Many more great Ideas like this and we'll be playing Single -A ball.
