Read Ms. Swindlers editorial in today's (8-18-07) paper today.

A well written and well thought out editorial in todays paper. Wish I knew how to copy and paste it here. Anyone know and care to try. It's worth reading.

This lady is on track, and isn't afraid to ruffle feathers.  Remember her editorial on the two young kids at the Laurel County Fair I believe, regarding minor kids and sexual behavior.

You think Estep would have had the guts to write something like that. I think not.

Samantha proves time and again she gets out and talks and "listens" to what is going on in our community.

Keep it up.

SWINDLERS ARTICLE????? Is Swindler trying to Swindle the folks in Corbin. I am a little peeved that she would compare our town to the movie footloose. The people in this town voted for alcohol to be served in a Restaurant with a meal.

There was no voting on Karoke, Bar Dancing or other forms of entertainment that people who keep drinking  want to act out. This is the problem that the police are having. Trying to Slam Dunk the City commission on this issue is not going to Swindler any News Award!

Some people would like to eat at a Restaurant without the type of conduct that Swindler it trying to defend in her News Column. I am confident that the Police and City Commission are correct on this issue.

Maybe Swindler and her cronies at the so called "Footloose Tribune"should build Their own Wine Bar on top of their building so that could have a Birds eye view of Downtown Corbin!!!

She is totally correct to try to compare our town to "Footloose".  She hit the nail right on the head in my opinion.

You're exactly right there was no voting on karoke, bar dancing (what kind of dancing is that anyway, is it different from non-bar dancing) or other forms of entertainment, that's why they are trying ban it. It wasn't on the ballot when we voted in sales.  Same goes for sunday sales, there was no vote to not have sunday sales, as it also was not on the ballot, and the previous clowns on the commission, and two on this one, voted not to have it. One commissioner saying he wouldn't want to sit next to someone in a restaurant, after he went to church,  while the other person was drinking a beer.  Strange, he sure sat next to many people, myself included, at the lake after church, drinking a beer.
And the former mayor shot his mouth off so much before the election promising people it would never pass, he had to not run again.

And our glorious commissioners. They voted unanimously on the first reading of the ordanance to ban karoke, and then in the same meeting, after it was over, talked about how they didn't know if it was the right thing to do or not. THEY DIDN'T KNOW, BUT THEY VOTED ANYWAY.  TALK ABOUT WISHY-WASHY POLITICIANS.

The commission had to ban these things becasue they weren't in the referendum. They are scared of losing their next election.

If you got any Guts at all you will name this commissioner that sat next to you at the Lake Drinking??? But, I don't think you will. You need to back up what you say little Miss! This sounds like a bunch of Hokus Pokus congered up by a Disgruntled TimeTribune supporter???

However, I am glad you agreed with my Point on the Conduct. This is not what the ordinance is about. Evidently you do not understand the Law. Beer served only with a meal. That is Clear.

In fact, I bet your the Disgruntled Times Editor that come up with the Ridiculous editorial in Sat Paper! Are You? You seem to compare the Town to Footloose and Slam Commissioners at the same time.

If I were the mayor or City Commission, the times Tribune would be the Last people I would speak with. I would let you guys and gals at the Times keep running your mouths and making fools of yourselves in those silly editorials.

I hope the folks reading these threads are not fooled by "RELDNIWS"

This looks like the above post was submitted by the same person who sends in the posts that rip people to pieces. Instead of debating and presenting your ideas you attack viciously the person with whom you disagree.  This is America, not Baghdad. We have a right to disagree, but we should respect each other.  The song "Respect Yourself" is important. If we respect ourself, we will likely respect others."

To the previous Poster! When you can't back up what you say, you only can resort to to someone trying to rip someone to Pieces. This Poster claims they sat next to a Commissioner at the Lake and they were drinking a Beer.

Ok, all I want to know is who this is and why you will not name this person???
There is no ripping to this is there?? And oh By the way, Why would you be at the Lake as you claim in this person's post sitting next to a certain Commisssioner  at the Lake??????

I am now debating and presenting what this poster has made claims of and now you or your poster friend need to stand up for once in your life and answer the above questions that everyone is waiting to Hear!!!!!!

Everyone needs to realize that Ms Swindler is not for  Corbin.  She will only be here for a little while and then will leave Corbin for another job.  She would like to tear up the community on her little issues.  The people of Corbin need to realize this and fight to keep our community together. This type of stuff is not good for our community.

That was very unfair to say about Ms. Swindler. She attends just about every function that goes on here. She brings diversity to our area. She wants to help us get better. If you want to sit around with your head in the sand like an ostrich and act like we are perfect and can do nothing any better as you shut the world out, go ahead.
T
hat's one reason so many of our children and grandchildren grow up and move away.  Don't you people see the possibilities if we seek to be the best we can be? In order to be the best we can be we must recognize those things that we must make better.

If I want to dance, I'll dance. If I want to go where there is Karoke and dancing I will go. You and your two other hosses are the ones digging the big hole, and you three are the ones who can't see anything. We know who the three of you are.

If you don't want to be compared to someone or something, than don't do the very things that draw the comparison - pretty simple logic. Her column was right on the money.

Also, I don't think it stated on the ballot "alcohol to be served in a Restaurant with a meal." It stated in restaurants that serve 100 or more, and with the 70/30 rule. If you get out much, restaurants have not only karaoke, but TV's, live music, jukeboxes, video games, other people to talk to, etc. And if you read the column close, it stated DUI arrests are down since we went moist.

It's not the Karaoke, its the establishment making sure they don't serve someone too much, and its the PD enforcing the DUI laws and throwing people in jail. Throw enough of them in jail and the penalties might just pay for another cop or two, and keep our street free of the .01% that will abuse themselves anyway, whether its at a restaurant or not.

If we go back dry again kiss goodbye the chance to attract good jobs that will allow many of our young people to have the option of staying here to pursue their dreams or just packing up and moving away.

The more of our kids that go elsewhere will then be able to go to many different types of places and even purchase their alcohol in the super market. They can go to all kinds of bars and package stores.

Control! Control! Control! Some people want total control!  They pretend they want our area to succeed but in their hearts they want it to stay like it was in the past. The number of arrests for DUI is down. We are getting some good restaurants.

Let's not live in the past.

You know......I read the article on the front page of the Times on Saturday and saw how London has no problem with establishments there because they don't have things like karaoke, pool tables, or dancing. There was also an earlier post that talked about how great London was because it kept those things away from the public. If my mind serves me right (and I know it does), wasn't it a London Mexican place that got girls drunk, would take them to a back room or a hotel and rape them? Yes, that did occur in London...hmmmmm. Maybe if people had some entertainment around here instead of making up other things to do things like that would be prevented. YA THINK? London can say all they want, I know better.
