Personally, I like Ms. Swindler, but the above comment says it all.

Her interest is selling newspapers, not the overall good of Corbin.

You obviously don't know Samantha - she has bought a home in Corbin, she is active on several community projects and committees, and if you ask her, really likes Corbin and wants to be here for awhile. You should ask and gather your facts before you assume, because as most of us already know, she's not your typical Times Managing Editor.

She is an excellent addition to the paper and to corbin. She gets involved, and speaks (writes) her mind, which is what we need more of around here. Not the back slapping and hand shaking the other paper has.

Compare her editorials to Esteps, there is no comparison.

It took real guts to write the editorial about pre-teen sex a few weeks ago. That took courage, and heart.
Do you think Estep would have written something like that?

I don't think Estep would have slapped the Town of Corbin in the Face by comparing it to the movie "Footloose". Swindler Did! The poster up two from this made a slight Freuordian Slip, making a comment that Swindler would only be here for a while. Great job. Keep running your jaws so that we may find out more.

No "Freuordian Slip" (actually Freudian slip), you just changed the poster's words.

There is a difference in "wants to be here for awhile" and your modification to "would only be here for a while".

Nice try "Freuoid".

Corbin needs a good "slap in the face", and if the movie Footloose is the worst we get, then we're getting off easy.

Of course, we're not unlike any other town in the USA, they all have their circles.

I love for her to have been a part of the old Dixie or Huff Drug gang back years ago, when those tables made just about every decision for high schools sports and politics in corbin. She would have had tons to write about then.

Or if she would have been here during the alcohol vote debates, all the preachers touting how bad it was and all that.  I could point some real fingers here on our "religious leaders", but I'll wait till I need that ammo for another time.

She would have had a field day back during the Thurston administration, when the wire tapping issues came up regarding city hall. Remember them.

Or, I would love to read her take, had she been here, on the 312 bridge video tapes, you remember, there were several surveilance tapes made by the Forest or Park service, catching some persons doing naughty things, and after the first bunch was prosecuted, the tapes mysteriously disappeared.  Remember who we heard was on that second set of tapes.

Yes, I hope she's here to stay, and that way, she can give us her opinions of future events such as those above.

No, Estep would offer an authentic slap in the face to Corbin by stating Corbin's downtown is so ugly he doesn't want tourists to see it - sort of a bad thing when your Tourism Board Chairperson wants to keep out tourists and their money - his excuse for nixing that Downtown Art Project.

I think you hit your problem right on the head with your Freudian slip - you're trying to type on that keyboard with your jaws.

The main issue here is the ordinance itself. Corbin voters voted alcohol sales into existence. But the administration of Corbin is the one placing the limitations on other entertainment within the community. Personally, I like to eat and be entertained... whether its a jukebox, live band, tv or karaoke. I also like to dance.. whether alcohol is served or not (because I rarely drink.) The way I have read the ordinance, karaoke would be banned restaurant wide.. including those who would sing on Sundays in the parking lot of those same restaurants that serve alcohol.

Additionally, I don't understand how karoke, dancing or anything else, forces people to get drunk. I don't believe that any of the restaurants hi-jack anyone and force alcohol down their throat! Whatever happened to personal responsibility for one's actions? Karoke does not cause drinking, unwanted pregnancies, dependency on drugs or acne. No one is forcing anyone to drink, dance, sing, hang around, etc. at ANY of those places. If you don't want to be bothered by the music, drinking, dancing, etc., then STAY HOME.

And another thing... I have spoken with Samantha before. She seems to be a very nice young lady that would like to see Corbin grow. Last time I checked, her job was to report the facts (which she does) and if she voices her opinion, it is her right to do so under the Constitution of the United States.

Ms. Swindler has broken the mold for newpapers in this area as far as her editorial topics and no holes barred reporting.

I look forward to her editorials, as they are always interesting and insightful.  In comparison, her competitors writings are usually base on his age, relatives, or old memories of corbin past.

I agree with the people who made the last several posts. We have a real professional journalist in Samantha Swindler. It is great to have her in this area.

I quit reading the weekly for several reasons, and while I used to not be a big fan of our daily, I've seen improvements since Miss Swindler arrived. Her editorials are much better than the "I used to love Cottin Candy as a boy at the carnival" editor's editorials I used to read in the weekly.

I am very selective about the things I read in the News Journal. I never read the editorials anymore.  The only reason I continue to take the weekly is because there are some nice people who work there and I don't hold them responsible for what the Publisher does. He is a great flip-flopper.

Another great editorial from Ms. Swindler about the history of Corbin.  That was a great article.  I asked my teenage nephew about it, which was the oldest building in corbin, and he just looked at me.

This is exactly why we need an Historical Society.

Great Job!!

Ms. Swindler did a great job covering the Tourism Commission meeting Monday. She has a unique talent in journalism. She covered the exchange between Bob Terrell, Jr. and Don Estep in such way you could visualize the events passing before you. It told me that Estep lost his composure, his temper, his ability to be polite, and his judgment.  Bob, Jr. on the otherhand dealt with the facts, asked Don some candid and concise questions that Estep would or could not answer, and clearly Bob, Jr. came out as the winner and as the gentleman he is.  People have gotten to the point that most of them don't believe anything Don Estep says.

I remember sometime back Estep wrote very complimentary comments about Bob's website. I also remember Trent writing an article about the City's new website that Bob does not provide, and Trent said among several things that the information was out of date.

For years Don has been one of the most noticable flip-floppers in our area. He still is number one.

To the previous poster - were you at that meeting or are you just going by Swindlers article? I am not saying that the article was wrong or anything like that but was it unbiased? I have heard people say that Samantha and Bob Jr are close friends and often sit together at meetings and events. Nothing wrong with that but it sort of looks like Bob Jr took his personal reporter with him to see that his side of the story was told, especially since everyone knows that the Times and the News Journal have often been at odds. If the web site thing had been a free service I could see how he could be upset but business is business even in local government. Wasn't the big difference 300 a month compared to 50 a month.

Have you ever compared websites? some are out of date by as much as several years. Some develop very little traffic. Some of the cheap ones are handled without having to write the content, or take pictures that are on it, or research the data and information.

You have never gone through this website or you would never have said what you said. You probably have never gone through the Tourism website and compared it to the Corbin City website. If you had gone through those you would have not said that. Why don't you check things out before you make those kinds of judgments. Bob, Jr. does many things at no charge for our community.

Hello, 2 posts up, the same could be said about Mr. Estep and his henchman Mr. Knuckles.  Maybe since Estep is the board chairman, we should not allow his paper to be there as that may appear biased.  What do you think.  Bob Jr. and Samantha were there as a contract person and an observer.  I wasn't there either, but I sure would have liked to have been.  Did Knuckles report the truth, or did he add to it to protect his boss.  Who do we believe. Based on both comments, I would choose Ms. Swindler.

Strange, how Estep is always talking about his competitive newspaper, yet you never hear a peep from the Times about his weekly.  The Times shows their professionalism in that respect, and Estep acts like the school bully that got caught with the other kids lunch in his hand.

It's time for Estep to go!!!!!!!!!

He should do alot at NO Charge! He was paid alot of money for this site and that is public record! Alot of money !!!!! Why does he claim it?  It should be the CITY OF CORBIN'S site........................................

You really have no idea what you are talking about, but we all know who is feeding you these mouse droppings. I've seen the work Bob Jr. did, the data and statistics, the marketing plan, the presentations, newsletters, one award I know of from LG&E Energy, tons and tons of nibroc work, and a great deal more. It is called marketing. You ever see one of the old Corbin presentations, or the Cumberland Falls Golf Course plan? My company has, and they are outstanding. Give him your information and I'm sure Bob will be happy to show them to you.

Stop doing your boy's dirty work for him and let him speak for himself, if he has the guts.

Bob Jr. has Estep and his Forcht group scared to death, and they are even more afraid of Bob Sr.  This group of many, knows these two men are changing the way this area thinks about what has been going on around us for the last 30 years, and they are scared to death.

Estep is on the bottom rung of the ladder, and he will be the first to be taken down.  When you go through the members of our local boards, you can pick out the Forcht group related people, and then you understand why things are like they are.

Bob Jr. is gaining support the way it should be gained, through honest, hard work and putting everything out in the open. Estep is cowering behind his desk, and wondering what he should say next.

The last poster has lost his mind.  Are you kidding me!  What do the people on these post do sit around all day and think of dumb things and solutions on this board.  Get a life! It is so entertaining to read these messages.  The only reason I think 80 percent of people get on is to read this comic book.   Give your opinions, hey thats great but sit back and read it.  Can u imagine what someone in London, Lex., Lou etc would think ready this small town stuff.  Some of the people on this board are so full of themselves its sad.  I feel sorry for the issues going on and hope our community can pull together instead of further apart.

Yes, you want us to pull together as long as everything is done the way a few bosses want it to be done. You don't have to look at this board, but you do.
Why? Because you don't want the boat to be rocked. Do people in a community just act like blind mice and run behind the master regardless of which way they are lead? I don't feel sad or sorry for you because you are either one of the blind mice or one of the big bosses.
