He can control other forms of gambling - horse racing, off-track betting, the Lottery and bingo from Frankfort, but he can't control the national casino operators, and he knows it.

Wanted to make sure I was clear with my post above - I like Beshear's position on this, I say yes we should let Kentuckians vote, I meant that when I go to vote I would vote NO to casino's.
Here is the argument against putting it on the ballot. The gambling industry has millions, heck billions, of dollars at their disposal to pour into slick, misleading advertising campaigns that will sway alot of people with their false promises. There is nowhere near that kind of money available to counter those claims. So the most gullible will go to the polls to vote it in just because they loved the way that ad made them feel. The deck is stacked.
This is a Democracy and whenever the people get to decide an issue it reinforces the beauty of our system. I wonder if the people had been the ones who could have decided if all of Fletcher's cronies should have been pardoned by him before they even went to trial, I doubt they would have done it.
Fletcher is grasping at straws. His corrupt government of the privileged few is trying to paint him as a saint because he has flip-flopped and is now against the people getting to vote. Some months ago before he saw how big of a mess his campaign was in he saw the issue the same way Beshear sees it. Let the people vote!

I agree that gambling is a hidden, progressive tax on the poor. However, since the poor get the most help from tax dollars, maybe it is fair that they bear the burden of this tax.

You must be the grand Republican Palm Reader. How can you tell that person is not a Republican? Many Republicans don't just vote the straight ticket. Many Democrats don't just vote the straight ticket either. When we are in as big of a mess in Frankfort, and Washington, DC regarless of political party we must clean house. I agree. Whenever a complex issue can be voted on by the people we should all be pleased that we the people are the ones who get to decide. I am against Casino gambling but I am pleased we get to vote yes or no. If it passes I will accept the decision of the people of Kentucky.
