I have to start off by stating I like Dennis a lot, he has been very good for our city, he cares, he tries to do what is right by both the city and by who the city is dealing with on particular issues, and he takes his job very seriously... in this case maybe too seriously.

I have to admit, it wasn't exactly a Haliburtan type of conspiracy. One bill was regarding $200 worth of paint used to paint the goal posts at Lynn Camp's football field, and another bill was for soda pop that was purchased at Wal-Mart. He questioned the fact they were purchased outside the city limits.

But you got to love Dennis. He's passionate, hard-nosed but also open-minded 99.9% of the time - more than I can say for a couple of the other commissioners.

I agree with questioning those bills, and I applaude him for his comments.

Why did the city pay to paint the goal posts? Was it good PR for the youth league? You can argue that either way. I don't have a problem with it.

The walmart stuff, yes, I do have a problem with that. That store, walmart, has run off more local business's across this country than any one would have ever imagined. We have two Kroger's, two Save-A-Lot's, and a K Mart in the city limits, they can buy their pop and stuff there.

The sidewalks, well, he's gonna have to explain a little more on that. I've seen them, and I would like him to explain what he thinks is substandard. Maybe someone here will ask him and post his reply.

The truck issue, rather than criticize the decision, he should volunteer to go out and find one himself if he thinks he can do better. I'll wait on that one.

commissioner lynch says that the sidewalks are not first class nor second class well what class are they since he thinks he is such a professional. remember corbin is a third class city, are they third class sidewalks?

Not sure what your real point is - are you saying the sidewalls are 1st class or top notch, or are you just wanting to criticize Lynch? I've seen a million sidewalks in my life, and these are not some of the better engineered sidewalks I've ever seen - in fact before Lynch started calling them on the carpet, the early stages of the project were quite poor. Thanks Mr. Lynch for holding their feet to the fire.

So, we need to know exactly what the problem is with the sidewalks, and what he thinks they should look like. Where is an example of a sidewalk he likes.

This isn't being a smart alec, it's a true question? He needs to explain himself. Just to criticize without any examples of what something should be isn't fair to all involved.

Oh, for pete sakes, now Commissioner Lynch has to come up with examples of sidewalks for us to see? He's looking out for Corbin's best interests by not paying bills without scrutinizing them. Good.

Our city manager is an engineer, or was.

Shouldn't he have been more involved in the process.

Lynch brought up the subject of quality of the sidewalks, so, put up or shut up, was he just barking at the moon, or does he know what he's talking about. If he's going to make statements, then he needs to back them up. You're darn right he should come up with examples, he opened the can of worms.

And, the bills. We still don't know all the details of that. Pop at Walmart,,,,,,,,,he's questioning that. Talk about petty. Parts at O'Rielly's, do they give us a discount, are they cheaper. Oh, lets pay more of our tax dollars to an in city dealer just because they are in the city, and forget being stewardly with the tax payers money.

And this truck, for the recycling center. Does he think we can use a car, or an old piece of junk we have to keep repairing. He never explained himself on that one. Maybe he'll have our police officers reloading their own ammunition, or the fire department using hoses past their shelf life. Just to save money.

The scrutinization is ok and all well and good, but don't make statements without qualifying them, or explaining them fully, and also if you don't have any idea as to a solution.

That said, if the papers didn't publish his details, then, we need to slam them, as they only told half the story.

Commissioner Lynch gives a great deal of his time on his assignment as Commissioner. Based on what I have learned, he did not believe the quality was as good as it should be. He wanted it to be improved on the streets where the remaining sidewalks would be paved. Dennis is a very knowledgable person about paving, and consstruction. I believe he is interested in seeing a good job completed for the people.

Sometimes when you have to take the low bid you get the unsatisfactory performance. We are fortunate to have Dennis on the Commission.

He was trying to sell them his own truck for recycling 2 days before for $7000, 1994. I heard that's why he was against it. we need more guys like him???

You heard? I guess it depends on who you heard it from. I'm also curious, did the city pay $7,000, more, or less, for the truck they did buy, and who was the previous owner of that truck?

I heard that too. That he was trying to sell the city an old truck. Don't know if this is true or not. I have also heard that he wastes a lot of time in meetings. He should do his homework before class. I know there are a few of his fans on the board. That much is obvious. You can probably talk to them in person over lunch at the bowling alley if you wish.

Dennis does spend a lot of time as a commissioner, and that's great. But, almost every time he opens his mouth around the paper, he makes some accusations or negative comments about something, and then that's it, no explanations as to what or why.

I truly want to know the issues about the sidewalks. I went down today and walked over most all of them, all through town, and looked at them. I looked closer than I normally would.
Were there some flaws or some minor things that stood out, yes, a few. And what construction project isn't without any

You want to talk about a good screwing the city got, look at the City Hall, and all that fiasco. Lets discuss that one. That was the good ol' boy network at work at full speed. Ask Bill Ed about that one. I believe the person involved in that one can't come back to town for various reasons. For that project, I sure would have liked Dennis to have been a commissioner.

I do remember the sidewalks in the early stages of construction, and they were pretty bad. I do give Dennis a great deal of credit for voiceing his displeasure and holding the construction firm's feet to the fire. I really believe they are at least the quality they are because of Dennis' efforts.

Shouldn't the city manager be out there checking on this daily, isn't that his job, managing the city. Dennis has some valid issues on the sidewalks, we just need to know some specifics.

I have been trying to figure out what Bill Ed ever does. I have heard he was the person who was to blame for Corbin High School's track being out of standards for high school or college track events. Thank goodness we have Dennis on the Commission because he really cares.

There is a lot folks in this town that really cares. But Dennis is beging to turn into "Dennis the Menace" making no sense of anything that really matters.

Dennis is a good guy, but needs to come up with good solutions that the City can carry through with. Let' move Dennis out of the "Dennis The Menace" category!!!

I respect Dennis Lynch. He cares about Corbin. He could be living in Florida enjoying some relaxation and having fun. I am thankful he is on the Commission to bring some business knowledge to that group. He wants to see the money spent wisely.

He is a most supportive Commissioner when it comes to Economic Development. When he was Tourism Chairman he worked to do things right in promoting our community. When the Kentucky Firefighters State Convention was held in Corbin a couple of years ago, he deserved a great deal of credit in getting that big convention held here.

Again, I am glad he is on the commission.

I think the main point of this thread could be that while he isn't afraid to stand up ane question anything, he doesn't fully explain his motives. If he had went into more depth about the bills in question, about this truck issue, and explained the reasoning for his vote, there wouldn't have been any issues, or reason for this thread. I want someone to ask questions about my tax dollars being spent.

Have you ever watch a commission meeting on tv. Sometimes, there is nothing but voting going on. It seems everything has been discussed or decided on before the meeting, and they just read the motion, and vote. I like it when things are discussed in an open forum.

Dennis, keep up the good work, just explain things a little better.
