"I'm running the show here!" Estep says to Corbin citizens.

It seems he thinks he's running something by himself.  Not his board, not the taxpayers, not the commission.  Thank goodness for level headed people like Suzy Razmus.

And his arrogance of not releasing the audit to the newspaper, he should either resign or be fired for that act. What is he hiding?

"Running The Show"? Surely he did not say the things quoted in today's paper?????? This guy needs to be in Charge Of Magic Shows in Gatlinburg, and not releasing an Audit when the Tourism funds are supplied by a Tax on the Local Restaurants?????????

Where is the Mayor? Or is Estep the Mayor??????

What a Wild West Show, Looks Ole Butch Cassidy Estep and his Gang are on the Loose again. Time for Marshall Dillion & Festus to round up these Arch Villians and make em follow the Law!!!!!!!

Another good one was "You are through right now and I'm asking for an adjournment!".   "Get away from our table. I've had enough of this. The city's had enough of it".

Who the hell does he think he is????????

Who is he to decide anything on his own.  He should resign immediately!!!!

That was an embarassment to our city, our Tourism Commission, and the Commission members, as well as to our citizens he is supposed to represent.   I can't wait to see how he justifies his comments.

And to refuse the audit, HOW DARE HE!!!!!

Maybe we need the FBI to come in with their forensic accountants to audit them, then we'll see if he turns the copy over to them.

Are we missing money, are we misdirecting funds, what is going on here.  I bet his paper gets a copy of the audit.

Maybe he could be the cell mate of another corbin businessman that thought he was above the law too.

"I'm running the show here!" Estep says to Corbin citizens.

When I read the article about the Tourism Committee meeting and Don Estep's comments, I almost fell out of my chair!!!! THIS is WHO we have leading our town????? Talk about utter embarrassment he should feel over his temper tantrum that he threw during the meeting. I was just waiting for another quote that said "THIS TOWN AIN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE BOTH OF US, TERRELL"!!!!

He should make a public apology, and resign. I don't know all of the specifics of the arguments, but that does not matter. A public official should NEVER lose his cool during a meeting. It's called diplomacy and leadership skills, which he obviously showed that he does not have. It's HIS way or NO way. "I'M RUNNING THE SHOW HERE". Oh my God, who does he think he is!! He is use to being able to write his editorial and no one call him on anything, but this website has gotten under his skin because for the first time ever, Corbin residents have a voice and are expressing their opinions. He doesn't want that to hear these things. So, of course, Bob Terrell, Jr. is going to get "punished" during a meeting.

I agree, thank God, we have people like Suzy Razmus to diffuse things. Keep up the good work Suzy. You are a progressive leader. You want better things for Corbin, which is evident by the great business you brought to Corbin.

When is Don Estep's term up? What do the people of Corbin do to get these people out of these positions???

Keep up the good work, BTJ!! You are shaking things up, which is what Corbin needs.

Estep, it's time for you to go.

How dare you think you are above the people of corbin, and the board members you serve with.

You're telling me, that in order to speak to your high-n-mighty board, we have to request to be put on the agenda.  You arrogant son of a gun.

You are an embarassment to us all.  Sign up for another bus tour, head up north, AND STAY THERE!!!

Suzy Razmus can take over.  She has the vision to make that committee truly great.

But he sure knows how to spend our Tax Dollars!!!!!! Where is our Mayor & City Commission?? I say if they do not get rid of Estep, we should vote ALL these guys out of Office as soon as possible.

I notice his poor henchmen down at the News Journal just could not report his little temper tantrum, I'd hate to have to work for this guy!

I made a post in another thread about Mr. Esteps behavior and I still think he was in the wrong about Mr. Terrell. And like I said once before, I'm not the oldest or most wise in Corbin, but I do think he has taken things a tad bit too far. I don't want to sit here and bash Mr. Estep because I don't think that's the way this situation should be handled. I think we shoud be the better person here and just support Mr. Terrell all we can.
To you Mr. Estep- I hope you're reflecting on your actions and realizing you showed your friends, neighbors, city people, and enemies your true colors.
To you Mr. Terrell- I think you have a real eye-opening website, and I love to log on everyday. I hope you continue to do good within our community, and not let some of us bring you down!

Although it seems like bashing, Lucy, I think its just complaining about him and his ways of doing things.

One thing I've noticed lately, is he is constantly mentioning his competition, the Times Tribune, in his editorials, yet I can't recall when and if ever the Times has mentioned the News Journal in theirs.  They report what they see, and move on. That's professionalism.

He crossed the line, and he burned his bridges.  Now, it's time to move on.

The reason the times has mentioned the other paper is because they are to busy covering London and surrounding counties.  They don't care about corbin, remember like they tell us everyday its a "tri county paper".  What ever that means.  I think everyone forgets  that london has its own paper and they never cover anything in corbin.  I can't figure out why they have their heads up londons...........................................

One of Don's good friends should talk to him and convince him he is just making himself look horrible by his comments and temper tantrums. My goodness I am embarrassed for him and surely someone he respects can get him aside and tell him he is ruining whatever reputation he still has left.

Who is going to believe anything he says in the future? I have had more people say if they are only paying $300 a month they are getting a real bargain with the quality of work Bob Jr. does. They should have Bob do the websites for the City, Tourism, Economic Development, and Chamber. His www.corbinkentucky.us website covers all those things better than any website I have ever seen.  Is Don blind?

Heck, it ought to cover everything since the city, tourism, economic development, and chamber paid $118,000 over a three year period for this website...

I have no connection to any of this but would say Mr. Estep is sick and tired of all the critizism for a job he has worked hard at for free.  I think everyone would respond the same way if they had taken the same bashing.  Put yourself in his shoes.  Of course the only way not to be critized is to say nothing, do nothing and be nothing.

So, what you are saying is, that as long as someone volunteers their time for something in a leadership position, no one should say anything if they disagree with their behavior or positions? I'm sure it is hard to take the criticism, but if you are a true leader, you listen to other opinions, and ask yourself if these things are true. If they are, you take it inward and you ask yourself hard questions. If you are ruled by your ego, then it is always everyone else's fault, never yours, and you fight harder to make sure there is no change, no one else's opinion matters. A true leader listens to all sides and decides if there is merit in the criticism. In this case, I believe there is merit in the criticism.

This kind of reminds me of our dear President. He refuses to listen to the American people. His ego and refusal to admit his mistakes stands in the way of what is best for America regarding the war in Iraq. He will "stay the course" as our men and women keep getting slaughtered.

We will see in the near future, if Mr. Estep just fights harder against everyone, or if he starts listening to what the people of Corbin are saying. We want positive change. We want progressive leaders. If he cannot provide that, he needs to step down gracefully.

Running the show ... that is exactly what a chairman is supposed to do in a committee meeting. The other guy was just trying to make more money for himself. You can dance around the issue if you want but everybody knows that.

Nobody is dancing around the issue. An effective leader does not act like a jerk.
The other guy got blasted in a recent editorial, he got critized at the last Tourism Commission Meeting, and he attended this one to give his version of the issue.  Is this America? He kept his cool and addressed the issues. The chairman showed that he still hasn't grown up. Everybody but a few of you know that.

What do you think you are doing? You are not forced to read these messages, and it is our right to participate. Why don't you get up and do something. And you are the one who is crying. And, by the way, I don't sit on my computer. I have learned to sit on a chair.

I think we should all concede that the Tourism Commission meetings "are  Don's show".  I just don't see how we can question that it is "Don's show".

There are some very good people on the Tourism Commission but it is not their show, it is "Don's show".

Don can bury us all in the barrels and barrels of ink he has for his newspaper.
We should all shut up, listen to the big bosses, and carry out our subservient tasks with obedience.

Estep is out of touch with reality if he thinks that $300 is too much for a quality web site such as this. The tourism section on this site is much more descriptive than anything you'll see on the tourism information they put out.

One thing is for sure, Don sure believes in banners.  Seems every meeting they are talking about banners.

If you going to complain about people signing their name, then at least sign your own - hilarious.

And, hum, since you think you are a mind reader, who posted them?

Wonder which ones will go when the new restaurant and hotel association is formed.  I think the restaurant assoc. will get one slot, and the hotel group two.

Keep in mind though, that Jimmy Vance is part of the problem, not the solution. He is part of the politics that Estep is part of as well, just on the other side of the road.

Corbin Tourism and Convention Commission

Don Estep - President
Rick Curry
Steve McBurney
Sudir Patil
Suzie Razmus
Missy Shelton
Wes Tipton

I'd say, Rick Curry will step down due to his health issues, and the Patil person, as no one knows who he is or what business he owns. Then, Tipton should go, as his comments from the meeting with the Downtown group showed his true colors.

Sudhir Patel  owns the Country Inn and Suites at exit 25, lives in the city of Corbin, and has served on the Tourism board for many years - I think maybe as many as 15 or more, but not positive.

And just like on this message board, Wes Tipton is entitled to voice his opinion.  I'm not sure what he said exactly, but it would be great if more of us out in the public would attend some of these board meetings and discuss these issues instead of just saying someone should be booted.  I know its tough for some to attend a 12pm Monday meeting, but if you plan it out in advance some of us can take a little longer lunch break and attend one once in a while. I think these folks - most of them anyway, will listen to the public, if the public will let their voice be heard - Bob Terrell Jr.

Thanks for the Patil info.

And furthermore, how about lets move the meeting to 6 or 7pm in the evening, when even more people can attend.  Lets make it convinent for everyone, instead of convinent for the board members and those few that can take off during the day.  That would be a good public relations move. Very few people can leave work in the middle of the day, or they work out of corbin, and even more cannot extend their lunch period past their alloted time, they have schedules to keep.  So, that said, lets make the meetings convinent to the general public. Will you get more people, maybe not at first, but its a worth a try.

Yes, Tipton can voice his opinion, and since he is on a public board, he better be ready to defend his comments all around.  That's the problem with many on these boards, they love to talk, but they seem to get upset when others call them on their opinions and comments.  If they can't handle the criticism, then get off and move on, let someone else take their seat.

Sometimes the consensus here seems to be we should be overly appreciative of these people that serve on these boards, just because they do.  I don't agree. They volunteered to serve, no one twisted their arm. Sure they may truly want to serve their community, but they have to realize, the serve for the citizens in the community, not over them.

To clear up any confusion, the Tourism related website that is part of the marketing program being discussed at the last tourism meeting and in the newspapers is www.corbinkytourism.com.

You could just let it go.

Let tourism get whoever they want for their website.

Don't call them ... they'll call you.
