You will fit in real good here Tex. In fact we already have one from Texas and also entertainers from Oklahoma and Florida. With all of the talent I have seen in the previous posts maybe you folks would want to work up a chimpanzee river dance routine and be an opening act for Nibroc next August. I know just the guy who might could get you in.

Sorry big, big, big, pals, but we are too young to be a feature act at NIBROC. We won't be old enough to star at NIBROC for at least 30 more years. However, we are very interested in the chimpanzee river dance. Could we use you big pals as the chimps? Or are you trunk monkeys?

Who are the "big, big, big" pals or are you too scared to name them?

I am afraid these, big, big, big bad wolves will huff and puff, and huff and puff, and blow my house down. They have so much hot air it might start a Tsunami on Lynn Camp Creek.

I'm sure Estep and Tipton will have their input in nibroc now. I wonder which london act they'll hire.

Will they try to compliment the chicken festival, say, calling it the "Gravy and Mashed Potatoes Festival" now to go along with the fried chicken that Estep keeps talking about.

Always this obsession with Estep, and I see you've thrown Tipton into it now also. You'd think these guys ruined your gravy train web deal or something.

I see there is a topic to help people with Estep and Carpenter problems. Maybe you should post there.

Some of you had better realize that it is Estep's show. He and Bruce have formed a strong alliance and they are now getting things done in Corbin. The Tourism Commission, Chamber, Industrial Commission, and City Government get their orders from them.

You may as well get used to it because that is the way it is.

So, for the third time, I'll ask:

What are they getting done? What are they working on right now to bring industry and business to Corbin???

Simple question, but the silence speaks volumes.

Nothing is getting done, but it does not matter. None of the Boards, Commissions, or committees will stand up to Estep or Carpenter. They can do whatever they please and it will not change.
They are running Corbin.

I think your nasty, snobby attitude speaks volumes.

Why not just go to our local leaders in person and ask them what they are doing to bring industry and new business? You may get a good answer and learn something you didn't know before. Instead, you've decided to attack them on this board. And you honestly think you are going to get an answer?

You need to grow up.

Nasty and Snobby? I must have missed something. You sound like one of the gang that Bruce and Don has doing their dirty work. We shouldn't have to go to them, they should be telling us, every week, what they're doing for US. They work for us, they serve us. The people.

You've got to be around one of those two, as you've learned how NOT to answer a question very well. I hope we can survive a few more months with Estep at the Tourism helm.

I agree that you should just ask your local leaders. I believe that Nasty and Snobby is wrong about this and probably just has an axe to grind. NS has a my way or the highway attitude and he got the highway. NS might want to try getting involved in the chamber. He could voice his opinions at a meeting. Why would any public leader want to answer to anonymous posters?

I'm sorry for coming off nasty and snobby, since I am neither. As a citizen of Corbin, and watching and reading all the stuff that has been going on with our town over the last few months, I simply want to know what things are being done to attract industry and business to our area. And, I'm a she, instead of a he. I just keep thinking if as you say, Bruce and Don, have teamed up and have power together, and are doing great things for Corbin, I just want to know what those things are. And, if they are, then great, we will all benefit.

And maybe you are right, I shouldn't expect anyone to post these things on the board that is so hated by the chamber. But, maybe Don could publish these things in his newspaper. He has the perfect forum to tell us. And, before you say it, I'm not being nasty. I sincerely want to know what is going on, what we are doing. I'm not sure why that should be attacked, unless there is nothing to tell.

GO TO THE MEETINGS!!!!!

I thought we would hear what is going on at the Industrial Awards Banquet, which should have been a good opportunity to find out about industrial development progress, if there is any. The Mayor spoke about city business, but Mr. Carpenter never spoke to the crowd about what is going on regarding his responsibilities.

You say "GO TO THE MEETINGS!!!!!", but they are "conveniently" scheduled so a majority of the public can't attend. Maybe Mr. Carpenter can do what Pat White did, and schedule the meetings so it would be more convenient for the public to attend, say 6pm or 7pm.

Then I will "GO TO THE MEETINGS!!!!!"

meetings for years were held in the evening, people when they get home from work don't want to go back out. it is proven fact! Its usually a good idea to have them at lunch for 1 hour. I think all committees meet at this time.

If people want to voice their opinion they will find a way to show up.

If the board really wants to hear the voice of the people they will find a way to make it convenient for the people they supposedly serve.

Is it convienant to have a meeting at 7 and nobody shows up but committee? The committees can never please everyone. Its just like when tourism meets at 12 noon. how many people show up to voice opinion. hardly any. case closed! get over it or run for office

[spoiler] I agree with the last poster! Not very many show up and when they do they are scared to voice their opinions. Also as in the last tourism meeting some didn't show up that are on the committee so they wouldn't have to vote. How convienant.

Most other communities schedule these meetings for the convenience of the community that they serve, not for the board. We have a couple of board menbers that would rather not have anyone voice and opinion, especially an opposing one. If you don't like meeting once a month at 6 or 7pm, get off the board. You serve community, not yourself.

What communities are you referring too. Yes I believe all who are on the committee know they are serving the people. The pay is unreal! Why else would they be serving if it wasn't for a better our place to live. I hope someday my great grandkids and grandkids come back to live in corbin. Lets hope everyone can start working together and listen to the people in the community instead of a select few on either side.

Are you talking about the tourism board? If so then you are wrong. Those people are appointed by the mayor and their job is to run the tourism board effectively under the guidelines set forth by the state. It is not to accomodate people.

What? I think what you typed describes the "Come Visit the Tumen, China Detention and Torcher Camp" tourism and convention board on the China/North Korea border, or the Maximum Wage Laws Board in Bhubaneswar, India.

You are saying these boards are here strictly to serve the State and Local Government, not the citizens? The money they spend comes from who? The state and local Government's job is to serve who?

Wow, are you lost. If you are on a board, please get off, you are on for the wrong reasons. If you are not, please don't volunteer.

Now that's the kind of sarcastic, smart alec answers we expect from people like Estep, Tipton, and Carpenter.

If they were appointed by the mayor, then they can be un-appointed as well. If they don't like it, they can leave.

Some people on this board are being too hard on the tourism board. I agree with the poster who said they aren't there to accomodate a few disgruntled losers. The board members are volunteers who were not elected to anything and are not paid. They just do it because they were asked to by elected officials who trust them. They've done a great job at not wasting the public's money on expensive web deals and plastic toy trains. I salute them for showing the guts to make the right decisions.

Just because one or two people didnt' get what they wanted out of tourism does not mean its a bad board.
