Corbin Bypass Cleanup 2007

I'm looking for input on our Bypass Cleanup this year.  We have it scheduled for October 20 from 9-12pm.  Normally we clean the bypass (duh), but I noticed the amount of litter is less and less these days (great problem to have) on that particular road.  I'm wondering if perhaps we might need to rename it the Roadside Cleanup and move it to another location.  I remember that Don Estep mentioned the litter problem in the area around 312 bridge, and I wholeheartedly agree this area looks horrible.  Are there any others anyone can suggest?  One concern with a change in location is the safety of our volunteers.  One of the reasons the bypass was chosen to start with was the wide shoulders to walk down.  I'm sure the police could lend a hand, they have in the past.  Also, we want it to be an area frequently traveled by tourists.  Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,

This is an outstanding community service project, and I commend you for initiating it.  It truly makes a difference.

I would suggest that an ad, with your above description of the project and the situation you're now in, be placed in both newspapers, and solicit people to call or write in their suggestions as to roads that need attention.  You could also list this website, and have them post it here.  Just direct them to the Corbin Events section, Corbin Bypass Cleanup 2007 thread.

The Flatwoods Boat Ramp road gets quite trashy during the summer. (if thats the one where you turn by Davis Salvage)  It has wide shoulders, and you could go all the way to the lake.  This is in whitley county.  Or, the road to the grove.

Great suggestion.

I haven't been down the road to Flatwoods in awhile, what a shame it's gotten so bad.  I'm a bit concerned about how far out it is, just because we normally have to pay for the gas the buses use.  But perhaps with fewer trips back and forth it would be OK.  The access roads to the bypass still look horrible as well, so that's an option.  Anyway, thanks for the suggestion, and I'll keep checking back.

Update! We have a change in date, it's Oct. 27 from 9 until 12 pm. After discussing with PRIDE, we decided to keep it anchored on the bypass, and go down the side streets (like the one to South Main St.), plus there is an illegal dump in the area we can work on. I spoke with them about the 312 bridge area, and they said they can get the Laurel Co. prisoners to work over there. Seems like the best solution. Anyway, thanks for the posts, and remember to come and "MOVIE YOUR FEETS AND CLEAN UP THE STREETS!"

Suzie, thanks for the very good things you do. I will do my best to be there October 27. You are a great community leader.
