Well, sorry again, but I didn't write the post about "Bubba", whoever he may be. And I have never written a post about Shelton, Lynch, or McBurney. I sign in everytime, and put my user name on every post I've written. So, you at least did better this time, writing a few sentences, but unfortunately, it was about posts I never made. I did question who the "city girls" were, but the rest of your post is for someone else. Keep reading, and maybe you will get it right next time.
Wkugirl, you need to study up on Corbin a bit. If you do maybe you can find out just who the city girls are and who bubba is. It is obvious that you don't know very much. Claims of "powers that be" controlling the town and Shelton, Lynch and McBurney not being among them. Those three men control 3 of the 5 votes at city hall. So what is your complaint about "powers that be"?
OK The last Poster has been apparently living in a cave, we had an Election, McBurney, Shelton & Lynch were Elected. This is called a Democracy. Now, these guys do control 3/5 of the Votes, but certainly does not mean they vote the same on everything.
It also does not mean they own ALL of the Land, have powerful ties to DC or the State Offices or anyone else. We do have people that are NOT elected officials that wield incredible power, I believe that is who WKU Girl is referring to. These folks operate in the Shadows and have ties that may date back 75-100 years in this area, most have no Idea on how deep the roots run and how Powerful some for these folks are!!!!!
You have the Obvious families and people who are in today's political limelight but others are even more powerful and shadowy that can really make things happen.
I agree, WKUgirl I believe was referring to some of the Wanna Be power boys that don't have a vote buy think they are running the city. I call them the Power Comedians - just listen to them talk about themselves and their positions in the city, their expertise (or lack thereof) and how they attempt to snow people with their own brand of BS. Its a good thing we have the Mayor and commsioners we do, I think we are slowly heading in the right direction, but more work needs to be done to clean out the manure.

Do McBurney, Shelton and Lynch vote differently on city issues?
Well, other than the time that Lynch didn't want to pay any of the city's bills and he voted No but everyone else voted Yes.

OK

Women do all the work. Look around church, school and the community and see who actually does the work. Lets get a group of women to run for city commissioners and mayor. They are the powers and now need to lead.
I agree we need more women in politics, but are they electable in Corbin? I would like to think so, but it would be a tough battle with the Good Ol' Boy circle.
I also think as far as mayor, Mr. McBurney is working harder than any mayor we have had in decades.
Women are electable in Corbin, but they have to file to run first.
We also have no women in our city services except for the administrative duties in the city hall. No women firepersons, and no women police officers. Also no women road and sanitation workers.
I know several women who live in Corbin that could beat most men who are running. They are active in community service and know a lot of people in town. As a matter of fact most of them are doing a lot of community service now. They are the ones out there doing the work for Corbin.
To my recollection, Whitley County has only elected three women to county positions. Ruth Craig, Jenny Watkins, and Kay Schwartz. I believe Nancy Mitchell is the one who ran for mayor several years ago, but was defeated. Can anyone remember any others???
I think the Tourism Commission needs to make it clear that one person will not dominate that commission. With the additional funds they now receive this is a vital commission for not just Corbin but for our area.
If we are going to have a website, let's have one that provides a favorable image about this area. Many websites are poor quality and don't accomplish their mission. The members, including the Chairman, must put the good of the community and people above their individual needs for control and power. I believe most of the members of the Tourism Commiission are doing a good job. Each of them must carry the same load, and they should not let one person dominate and get them off tract. We need a very effective and productive Tourism Commission.
