I think the city should put the official meeting minutes of the city commission meetings on the internet, as well as all the official meetings of the various city committees. Tourism, Econ Devel, Chamber, Nibroc. Put them on a website, any website, it don't have to be this one, so all can read. Then, we'll know what topics were discussed, official questions asked and answered, motions and who they were made by, who voted for what, how much was spent, all of that. The only thing that probably couldn't be on it is personell actions.
If the city commission and committees want to end the criticisms and questions, then put it out in the open for all to see. And the internet is the place to do it.
You think you have to go to the meetings to show you care about what goes on with our city government. What an insolent remark. Why not put the minutes on the internet? Are they trying to hide or cover up something.
Just think, when we have questions, we can go back through archives and find where something was previously discussed, or voted on, and who voted on it, and how they voted.
I think it's a great idea.
The only people that probably don't like it, is the city leaders and city management staff.
What if a person is severely handicapped and they can't travel without extreme hardship, or shut in due to health reasons, or in a nursing home (there are young people in nursing homes if you didn't know), or, maybe this 2nd poster has forgot, there are people that work for a living during the hours these meetings take place. Not all wage earners have vacation days or personal days they can just take off and go to meetings. Your answer is why people have low opinions of these people on the boards and the politicians. They should even rotate the meetings occasionally, maybe on a saturday, so some that work during the week can attend.
The monthly city commission meetings are on local cable Thursday nights and maybe other times as well. From reading the board it would seem that the two local newspapers cover the other meetings quite well. So which is it? Are you handicapped in a nursing home? If you are then it looks like they have a good internet connection. I wish you well. Or are you at work when the meetings are held? Many people are but they make arrangements to be there. Put all of the meetings on the internet if you wish but that would be probably be taxpaper expense and effort on somebody so that you would not have to put forth any.
Well, another smart a*% answer, seemingly from the same person. You obviously don't want any type of public availability of our city's business. You must be a commissioner, or city management, or even one of the newspaper people. Why else would you be against this?
It's people like you that give an impression of hiding something.
So you're against the handicapped people from knowing the cities business. Is that it. Do you just not want it available for us to read.
So, you say "WE" should make arrangements to be there, but, why don't "THEY" make arrangemenst do accomodate us, the citizens of corbin.
You sound more and more like someone directly involved here.
Taxpayers expense??????????? Yes, this type of thing would be a great expense to give back to the taxpayer.
The more you talk about not wanting to do it, the more I think it is a great idea.
What better way to find out who motioned for what, who did or didn't vote for an issue, and so on.
Thanks, you're making my point for this site and others like it being necessary.
There is no way I can take off work to go to these meetings. I wonder how these other people get time off to do so. Do they take vacation time or sick leave. The arrogant person that thinks you can just take off for them must live in the Land of Oz. People work for a living.
I'm with the last guy, the more they buck on this thing, the more I want to know what they're hiding.

Do your homework. This has already happened. Next you will be griping that a commissioner won't personally come to your home to read the minutes to you.
Oh, so the meeting minutes of the commission meetings and committee meetings are already on the internet, where are they? Tell me, and I'll apologize for this post.
And, if I want a commissioner to come to my house to read the minutes to me, I'll darn well ask them and expect them to do so, at their convinence of course. They work for me.
Can't wait to find out where the meeting minutes are.
Also the meetings are televised and write ups about them are in the local newspapers. Being a good citizen does require a small effort from you to know whats going on
if you are reallyconcerned about local government, GO TO THE MEETINGS don't just sit back and gripe about not being able to read the minutes on the net.
It is easier to gripe and complain than to get involved. Most of the posters on this board just like to take pot shots at city officials and even volunteers like Mr Terrell.
And you know what, if I want to sit back and gripe and complaine, that's what I'll do. I pay my taxes, I vote, I served my country (did you), so, that gives me the right to just sit back and gripe and complain about what ever I wish to. If I don't like something, I'll say it, and I'll say it wherever I please. If I choose to use this forum, the so be it.
You don't have to get "involved" to care about what is going on.
You know, the "Go to Meetings" statement is what Estep and all his people are constantly saying. A noble thought, but, that's what he is for, to go to meetings and report to us the results. Well, lately, it seems he's leaving out a bit of the whole picture, and that concerns me. But, that's a committee meeting, not a city commission meeting.
I'll take a shot at any commissioner or mayor or city government management person I wish to, and about what ever i wish to. I pay my taxes to give me the right to do so.
It seems the heat is getting to the board and committee members, they can't stand it, nor can their supporters.
Their little kingdoms are at risk of being taken down, and their agendas are being uncovered.
You don't need to go to meetings to be involved in community issues. Actually, casual conversations and forums like this have more inpact than going to meetings.
This site hasn't advertised anywhere, and it doesn't have to, it gets all the publicity it needs from the weekly newspaper editor. You can't buy that kind of advertising.

"Pay Taxes" I'll bet you are on the homestead exemption. Your just a complainer , admit it and go watch turn on "Oporah"

Something tells me if you were man enough to show up for a meeting you are not someone our city leaders would respect enough to listen to.
After this thread started, the August commission meeting minutes appeared on the city website. I thought they would continue. They haven't.
There are Zoning Committee meeting minutes, and Code Enforcement Board meeting minutes, for many months from September back to the first of the year, but no city commission meeting minutes other than August's. Wonder why. It can't be because they don't have time to put them on there. Wonder why they're not on there.

Why don't you go down to city hall and ask? That would probably be the best way to find out.

Didn't have time to go down to the city hall, as I work during the day, usually out of town until early evening, 5 or 6 days a week. I don't have a job like most around town that can go to 12noon meetings and 5pm city commission meetings, I have to actually work for a living. I did call down there to city hall about them though. I talked with a very pleasant lady, and the reply was "I really don't know". I asked for the city manager, and he was out of the office, all day. I mean all day. No explanation of when he would return, just out of the office.
And, yes, I did enjoy reading the minutes of the meeting. It's my city government, and I'm interested.
