RE: The next tourism meeting: what will happen!

Let's put an end to the hostility among many people interested in Tourism.

Why don't you start out the next meeting with a prayer? Why don't you have a local minister sit in as a facilatatpr? Why don't you ask each other for forgiveness for any anomisity and cruel words?  This would be a remarkable occurence for our community. This would build teamwork.

I  heard Terrell does many free things for Relay for Life, Fine Arts, Main Street program, cruise in program, and others. Terrell's website is excellent and he has built a strong base of people who visit it.

Estep has an important position as Publisher of the News Journal. He has done some good things for the community. It is hard to understand how they could have had such a good relationship for several years and now it has gone sour. I thought it would have been better if the Tourism Committee had met with Terrell and confronted him with any problems before filling the newspapers with criticism. That would hurt any of us to suddenly read in the paper that your business should be shut down

Estep has taken some pretty hard hits on this message board and so have the Terrells.  We need the help and cooperation of all of them.  Let's start the next meeting with a prayer and a resolve to work out these differences.

The next tourism meeting: what will happen!

Lets start by asking: who will show?

Here is my prediction:

Some but not all of the toursim members since a few will have other more important things to do.

The tourism employee and maybe the tourism bookkeeper.

A couple of newspaper reporters.

A couple of Chamber people.

The board administrator.

Anyone else who wants tourism to give them some money.

Now with this group in place, lets go from here: what will happen!

It's not true. I think there are only a few supporters and most of those choose to remain anonymous.

With threats like "you better make sure you are on the right side of the fence", some people feel they may need to remain anonymous.

There are lots of people who support the Terrell's, because they are good for Corbin.  They both have a vision for the area, and the skills and ability to "sell" Corbin to interested industries.  So, we support the Terrell's because they support Corbin.  People hassle Bob Jr, because he is an "outsider", but he has more vision for our area than people who have lived here their whole lives.  He is extremely smart, talented, and well-spoken, and that's just the facts, if you've ever met him.  But unfortunately, that intimidates people who don't measure up.

I have not seen where any threats were made to anyone but if there were any they were certainly not from me. Most of these posts are in the spirit of good discussion with conflicting points of view on the same issue. That should be what the board is all about except that the board administrator is still banning IP addresses if the post is negative to his view. That is a pity.

If you would go to page 4 the 19th post from the top on the "I'm Running the Show" Topic you would read a good explanation why two people were banned. Read the risk and the problems a webmaster takes as well as the poster when they use the jump all over the globe system.

You just sent the above message to this board and it was not stopped. There are a few of you that work together to criticize this message board. You are the ones who should be pitied.

You're right. To those of you who have slammed Estep on this board, how many of you have had your IP address banned by the administrator in an attempt to stifle discussion? Seems like a very cowardly way to silence those who disagree with you.

Your IP has been banned by the administrator of this forum. You are not permited to comment.

Once again, you state it is your IP that is being banned, when it is not.  It is really simple: If you use the TOR network or an open proxy that is banned by many websites, it will be banned here also.

I wish they would do the above but the Tourism Chairman is too proud to work things out without getting his way. If they could work things out it would be good for our community. They should start out with a prayer. Have Bob Lockhart attend and give the prayer.

Since we are retired my wife and I plan on going to support Mr. Estep. I've known him for a long time and I think he's been done wrong.

Done wrong by whom last poster?

By this board?

Since you're retired, I'm assuming your in the same age bracket as Estep, so, I can understand your loyalty to him, as that is what group he appeals to.

Estep wants to keep Corbin in the 50's and 60's, and that's what he is doing.

It's time for him to go, and go soon.

It would be great if the next meeting could be about resolving conflict. That is what true leaders do. They put the issues out there, and work toward resolution. No temper tantrums involved. If Mr. Estep's ego could be checked in at the door, then maybe that would work. And for the people of Corbin, we need that to work. We need for the tourism chairman to open his mind to ideas that are not his own. We need the committee members to stand up for what's best for this town. If that happens, then the people of Corbin win.

I heard something similar to that too.

It will be interesting to see just who all shows up to vote.

That is an important board and the members should take it seriously.

It is my understanding the Tourism Commission should have been last week but was postponed to this week. We should not fault any members who did not attend. This week is fall break and if members who thought they were going to meet last week are on trips or tied up with family members I would fault the people who scheduled the meeting on a different week.

Whoever appoints these people needs to think about it before reappointing them to the tourism board. There are plenty of folks out there who would put in the effort to attend. What if there could not be a city commission meeting or a fiscal court meeting because the elected officials would not show up? Fall break is a poor excuse.

Your understanding is wrong. The tourism meetings and the city commission meetings are on the same day. The second monday of each month.
