I am sorry but I just have to start a new thread on the Chicken Festival. This should be a Corbin Event. London didn't have anything to do with it. KFC started in Corbin. Big Deal it's 100 feet inside Laurel Co.

I notice in the paper their entertainment, awful! Who are the entertainers? I didn't recognize any names. The London people have commented on this and want to know how we get such good acts.
I went thru the chicken festival last night and it is set up just like our festival. All the carnival rides are on side streets with vendors down main street. It was crowded.
While I understand your point, we already have our festival.... NIBROC. London was smart by capitalizing on the chicken theme, but our festival is over 50 years old, and there's not enough money and energy around for 2 festivals. Good for London, let them enjoy their festival, and watch the puzzled faces of the out of towners who ask where to go to the original KFC! There are plenty of other ways to market our 'chicken' heritage without horning in on their idea. Maybe this would be a good place to brainstorm?

When the Colonel started his empire, London was just an outhouse stop on the way north. The reason they picked up on the theme, is London has no themes. They have no history. All it has is a courthouse.
We went last night too, and it seemed 'stuffy". Not the weather, but the people.
Yes, their entertainment stinks, and I'll give Carpenter credit for this, he gets top notch entertainment.
Another thing too, london and laurel county doesn't have the extra money to put into their festival as corbin does. They are almost broke now. They had to totally rely on corporate sponsors just to put on their 4th of July fireworks. Maybe they'll go bankrupt and sell the city to Manchester.
Many folks have criticized the amount of money tourism gives to nibroc, but ,it really isn't the amount, its the accountability. I'd be for giving $50k if we had to, but I want to know where it goes.
We could still have a type of chicken festival. We could work with the local KFC franchisee and do something, boy wouldn't that tick laurel county off.
