I agree. For eight years we have had businesses and employees in Corbin Knox County paying taxes to Barbourville and Knox County and we haven't gotten a dime. What are we waiting on?
During these past 8 years we have sent about $800,000 occupational dollars to Barbourvile and about $1,600,000 to Knox County. How many things could we have done for the people of Corbin if we had gotten to keep our fair share of those tax dollars?
Corbin is the only city in Kentucky in which its people and businesses pay taxes generated within their city limits that go to another city. How long will it take us to protect the taxes of our citizens?

Where are you getting your figures at? Knox County would be the only source that would know. Only the Knox County occupational tax office sees the occupational tax returns or net profits tax returns.

It isn't very hard to come up with a reasonable estimate. You look up how many employees are working in Corbin, Knox County and multiply that number times the average wages per capita of people in that area. Then you multiply the total wages times 1%. Then you take the number of persons employed in Corbin, Knox County and go to the Bureau of Statistics and find out what is the average net profit per employee in Kentucky.
Then you multiply that total profit number by 1% and then you add a and b together. Also I have heard from reliable sources that last year Barbourville got $100,000 from occupational taxes out of Corbin, and Knox County got $200,000. What do you think they got? You have to know from the test of reasonableness it is a pretty large amount.

Either way, $1 is too much.
Knox County has thumbed their noses at the corbin end since time began, and they still do. I lived in one of the new subdivisions in knox county. They don't give a hoot no matter what, just want your tax money, and your vote at election time.
I live in Cardinal Heights, but both my husband and I consider ourselves Corbinites. Its hard enough to get any road work or drainage work or anything else done in our subdivision right now. When I call our magistrate, or the judge, they always tell me money is tight. I don't think Knox County should start donating any tax money back to the city of Corbin just to be nice. If Corbin wanted in on the tax deal, they should have passed their own years ago when Barbourville and the county did. They didn't so they are just crap out of luck. Corbin has plenty of money anyway. the city already has a reputation for being greedy and looking down on its neighbors already. I try to tell peopel that's not the way it is but if you tax this tax money away, it will be hard to defend you.
You should come into the City of Corbin and you would get better service. Why should tax dollars from people who work and have businesses have to go to a County Government that is incompetent?
