After reading all these threads and most all the posts, why are you, the upset people, mad at the board administrator? He just gave you the board to voice your opinions. He didn't write all these posts that apparently have upset a certain faction in town. How could he? Do you think he has the time to spend all day doing that? Surely not!
And this IP issue, he darn well should make sure that type of thing is controlled here. It's a computer security issue. In the wrong persons hands, it can be a major problem. These programs are only good for people trying to hide themselves or something about themselves. They're usually used by criminal elements, or persons toying with computer fraud or other similiar activities. He needs to ban them. He could help by just having us register, but that's up to him. Remember, it's not the IP issue these people are worried about, it's the required valid email address required to register, using whatever name you wish. Yes, ban the proxy servers.
I know both the local papers require you to give a name, address, and phone number for validation if you write a letter to be published in their paper. That's fair enough. If you're willing to stand up for something, then you should put your name on it. But, several months ago, Estep violated his own policy when a friend of his wrote a letter for publication, and asked that he not show their name or address. So, in that respect, his consistency is out the door, and he is not better than this board that he so despises. This board, allows us all to post anonymously, or we can register, and that is a very nice option. I'm using it, and so are most here. I'll probably continue to use the anonymous route, until he changes the rules.
This is the fist time in the history of Corbin and its surrounding area, that the average citizen has had the opportunity and ability to let their feelings be known, and speak their mind. That has never happened before. The people love it, just look at the number of posts on some of these threads. Even the people that don't like this board keep looking and posting. That shows you that we all love this forum. So what's wrong with that?
And this "in city" and "out of city" thing is just totally ridiculous. But, it's fun to keep up with. And, what's wrong with these people not liking it. Nothing, nothing at all. Thats why we have elections.
Do you think for a moment that if there were some kind of impropriety or illegal act happening in these committees, that the word would be out so fast, even this board couldn't keep up with it? Really, it couldn't happen, and them get away with it.
I read another post on another thread about changing our attitudes. That is right. We have to change with the times. The internet and this type of board is the way of the future. Soon, print publications will be gone. There will be no need for them. The internet will replace them. You all know it's true, you just hate to admit it.
So those few of you that think this board is some kind of conspiracy theory to bring down the city of corbin and it's leaders, it's not the board thats the problem, it's the people using it. Freedom of speech, and freedom of the press are two of our most important values in this country. Don't shoot the messenger, take issue with the message.
its not for the average person. take a poll how how many have computers. Believe it or not but most people especially the average person has no computer access. Take a poll at local schools see who has a computer at home. it will shock you at who does not! mainly poor and middle class don't
I think you'd be surprised at how many people have computers now. It's more than you would think.
I agree. Our area is coming along real well in the use of computers. This message board came along at the right time to give many of us a chance to express our own beliefs and ideas. That makes some people angry. They don't want us to speak up.
I think it's not only the issue of speaking out, but the fact that they can't find out WHO is speaking out. Before, the only way to voice any opinions was through the newspapers, writing a letter, and then hoping it would be published in a timely manner.
Now, it's instantaneous.
Even the people that are mad at everything and everyone, have a venue to use to voice their concerns.
The next election, I forsee this board being a major player in the election process.
Had a discussion with a man friday about this board, and he was upset about it. He was mad at "the board" for the posts about the football team and the soccer teams, as he was a staunch football supporter.
As we talked, he was upset with the posts, not the board. I asked him if he burned his newspapers or canceled his subscriptions when the paper printed something he didn't like. I asked him if he cut off his cable when he heard a news commentary or report he didn't agree with, or watched a move that made him mad. He said, "Of course not, I can't control what they put on there." I told him, "Exactly".
And the board administrator doesn't control what is posted here regardless of what some think.
After some more conversation, he agreed, although reluctantly, that it wasn't the boards fault, only the posters.
And that said, this board is the first thing in this area where the average citizen can spout off about anything they want, and it's great.
The community leaders can't do anything about it, and they don't like it.
Just wait till the election, this board will be busier than a bee hive.
Most people I talk to love this board, but a few oldtimers who don't think you should be able to speak your opinion without a way for them to control it absolutely hate it. If they don't have the ability or facts to debate the issue, they don't conceed or compromise, they just turn to badmouthing their oppponent. Its a generational issue as well as a control issue, and they are not used to it. In truth, the real world, or the world outside of Corbin I should say, has passed them by, and they live in their own small ficticious world that exsisted 30 or 40 years ago. You rock that boat or disagree with them, and you're their enemy. There is no discussion or friendly debate, its their way, or their way, period. That is one of the reasons Corbin isn't growing like our neighbors and other towns. The other scary part is some of these "oldtimers" aren't that old - some in their 40's and early 50's.
If a few of you don't like the opinions on here because they don't agree with yours, you need to check out the real world that is out there beyond the Corbin city limits. Here are just 4 of the thousands of message boards and forums out there:

You are right. They are trying to hide their IP address from the administrator. Nothing more. When you don't use a proxy server the administrator of this or any site can see your IP address and by using tracking cookies can track the other sites that you visit on your computer. This is no secret. Just do a google search for tracking cookies, IP addresses and proxy servers. This is not a national security issue or a chester the molester thing. It is just a matter of the board administrator wanting to know who visits his message board. If it were the Terrell Board then that would be OK with me. But this is the Corbin, Kentucky board and it should be open for discussion whether Jr. knows who you are or not.
By the way, thanks to board administrator in the last anonymous post for all those message board links. I am sure that everyone will visit them often.
Yes, thanks to whomever for the other message board links. I'll check them out and compare.
And again, if you don't like the rules of the board, start your own, or get off this one. It's that simple.
I understand the problem the administrator has with the registering thing.
On one hand, if he requires registration, it could stiffle the banter of all the posters, which no matter how we feel about the posts, we all thoroughly enjoy. It's obvious by the number of posts, topics, replies, and views.
On the other, those criminal types that want to hide their IP for some reason, don't want to be known, possibly because of who they are and where they post from, is another reason for us TO register.
It's a coin toss for now. Until the banned IP guy gets out of hand. He could possibly be exposed right now, we just don't know it.
The Gregory group is anyone over 60, as they are the most consistent voting group. Young people only vote when there is something to vote for in their opinion. Like the wet/dry vote.
When we vote for package alcohol sales in a few years, the young people will come out in droves.

I have always said this board is tame compared to others I post on. Look at the Somerset boards and look up "Ole Hal Rogers", "When will the people of Eastern Kentucky wake up?" and "The Pulaski Police".
