Mayor voices support for Downtown program.

To all the naysayers here that has been bashing the Downtown, please read todays News Journal concerning the Commission meeting monday night. Mr. Wolley, from Whitaker bank, gave his support to Sharae and the program, wanting to make sure the commission knows his business supports it. The mayor gave his pledge of support and continuation of the program as well.

I have more comments on this, but would love to hear from others and their comments.

I've heard rumors that Estep and Carpenter wanted this program shut down, and to let them take it over and administrate it. The mayors comments shot that all to pieces. I know Shelton and Lynch is totally on board with the Downtown program as they've both told me so, but Farris and Gregory are not that supportive of it according to what I've heard.

I was very impressed with John Wooley's comments at the Commission meeting Monday night.
Sharae is doing a fine job and she deserves our respect and support.

Bob Terrell, Sr.

This program continues to gain support every day. Once we get our certification, the sky will be the limit.

The mayor's comments were a great show of support for her and the program. His support shows his total committment to our community and it's programs.

I agree with Mr. Terrell that Wooley did good. The Main Street Program has great possibilities for Corbin. Word had got out in town that Mayor McBurney scolded the Main Street manager on a couple of issues and that he might be getting ready to pull the plug. I hope everything has been worked out now between the mayor and Sharea. She is a hard worker with plenty of ideas. He needs to understand that she answers to the Heritage council and the main street committees and not to him and Bill Ed.

I was told at octoberfest that the mayor had been very mean to Sherea. This is awful. that young lady works so hard. Why does he want to get rid of her?

You may have heard it but I doubt that its true.

I agree it isn't true. I have spoken with Willard many times, and he has nothing but praise for her and her program.

Hold up there a minute praise poster. When I said that they may have heard it but I didn't think it was true I meant that I didn't think Willard had been mean to Shreah. I talk to him quite a bit and he is a gentlemen but he can also be very critical of her at times. I have never heard him praise her and I don't believe he ever has. Willard is not a praise guy. He sets out the rules and expects them to be followed.

You killed what very little credibility you had with that last one. Willard has praised her many, many times to me, and to many other people.  Try showing up at one of the Main Street events and you'll hear him tell people individually, and a crowd, as he should.

Your comment is a laugher, and you obviously don't know the man as well as you claim.

You are probably someone he doesn't trust. I don't blame him for blowing some smoke in your direction.

Funny, Mayor McBurney has told me and many of my friends the same thing, that Mrs. Myers is perfect for the job, knows the program inside and out and doing a great job. Sounds like the smoke might be blowin' your way, although more likely, blowin' from your way.

Maybe the smoke is being blown in all directions. Thanks for clearing it up a bit. Welcome to the board Mr. Goode. There is always a need for more Johns.

Willard has personally told me he wholeheartedly approves of her and her program. But, should any of what is being said here be true, such as him telling one person one thing, and another persons another thing, he is done with his politics. I hope he isn't doing that. I don't think he would do that. He knows too many people talk in this town.

I have heard Shelton and Lynch speak highly of her and the program as well.

Gregory and Farris, well, they speak volumes by their silence.

I am not sure about the manager part of this discussion but most likey it is just a misunderstanding of what people think they have heard Mayor McBurney say. Everything appears to be going well with the Main Street program from what I can see. It will take some time to get everything accomplished. As for the city commission not supporting the Main Street program that is far from the truth. They are the ones who voted to enter the program in the first place. They funded the program in the city budget and voted to hire the manager. The program just didn't pop up from nowhere. There were meetings between the commission and the Kentucky Heritige Council back when Mayor Miller was in office before the days of McBurney and Lynch. Commissioners Shelton and Farris were the two most vocal of the commissioners in support of Corbin getting into the Main Street program and Gregory was on the committee with Wooley, Ellis, Carpenter and Hanson that interviewed and recommended the manager to the commission. From what I have heard Gregory was for hiring the present manager even before the final interviews were over. Talk of the commission not supporting our Main Street Program is not true.

I agree whlleheartedly with the last post.

There is only two people that don't and won't support our Downtown manager, and that's Don Estep and Bruce Carpenter. I've heard it from both their forked tongues.

When Don goes off the tourism board next year, Bruce will be by himself. Then, when the city hires a Expo Center managment company, and not Bruce Carpenter, maybe he'll move on too.

Is that all you think about, Estep and Carpenter? I doubt they even give you a second thought. Get a life.

the only thing i can think of is that people must think they swing a big bat in Corbin. They are only 2 people who head committees full of people who can make their own decisions. Why is everyone so scared of them?
