When Donnie Lloyd made his opinions and desires known about bringing a VA clinic to corbin, I thought "I sure hope we can do this". I thought it would be a terrific thing for the areas vetrans, as well as for corbin.
Then, when they went to the city commission and the city leaders acted so quickly, I thought we might have a shot at it even more than before.
And when I read in today's Times of the donation of the old Tracy Apartment building to the local American Legion post, with the possibility of it being used for the VA clinic, I thought, "WOW", how fast good things can go.
If we all stay on this issue, I really believe we can pull it off. I personally have called ALL of my state and federal legislators and filled them in and asked for their support. To all of you out there, please do the same.
The good friends of our community who donated the land to the American Legion deserve our deepest respect and thanks. This is the way good things happen. And congratulations to the American Legion for their leadership, and to our Mayor and City Commission for their quick and positive response. It was an inspiring experience to be there last night with veterans who have given so much for our country over many years. And it was a good feeling to wear one of those veterans buttons. All branches of the Armed Forces were present and it was good also to be with some good Marines. You cannot accomplish anything without dedication and commitment. Let's keep moving together as a team and make our best effort.
I would think hand-written notes from our area veterans, via Donnie for copying and sent on to the decision makers would pack a big punch! Form letters are a good start, but nothing beats a letter from the heart to get their attention. God Bless this project and Donnie Lloyd for getting it started!!!!!
This is a great community effort. I was with the Veterans at the City Commission meeting and it was inspiring to see the strong support for this program. I stayed for the Main Street part of the meeting and enjoyed that part as well. These are the kinds of things that can move our community forward.
Could someone post who specifically who we need to call and write, and the addresses and phone numbers. I've talked with several about this, but no one knows who to contact, other than our eleted officials.
This is very important, we need to get on this and follow through with it.
The letter in the newspaper said that the VA Clinic could be delayed because some people pawned off the old Tracy apartment building on to the American Legion and they got involved. I thought that building had been condemed by the city.
Building has been condemed by the City as unfit for human habitation. It is my understanding that there are many issues with the building which would cost an enormous amount of money to fix before the place could be used as apartments or whatever.
I appreciate the Lawson brothers for contributing this building to the American Legion. We should not blame them for any problems. Let's hear all sides before we judge anybody.
I don't know anything about the Lawson brothers but I did hear that they unloaded something that they found out was going to be trouble for them on to the Legion. Maybe not but still that is a terrible place for a VA clinic. This topic isn't about them but about something that was supposed to be good for our veterans.
I think everyone got caught up in the moment, and things flew by so fast, the left hand didn't know what the right was doing.
The issue of the Lawsons (don't know them) giving the Tracy building is one thing, then the Legion announcing it would be used as the clinic, was very, very premature, but proactive as well.
The wrong publicity shouldn't hurt the cause, as now everyone is on the same sheet of music I believe. Our city leaders can still lobby for this, as well as vetrans of the area.
We need someone to post who we can call and write too to help promote this.
Like Mr. Lloyd said in his letter in the paper, it will take some time.

Let's get behind this and see what we can do.
We need points of contact. Can anyone help.
Excellent plan. The Lawsons are nice people and very active business people. I know they have good intentions about this project.
