I don't think it will be long before we see this, package sales. Maybe two elections away, three at the most.
The younger set in the area will support this. Sure, many churches and such will fight it, but remember, it'll be a city limits only thing. So, all those protesters living out of the city limits, just turn around and head back to the country.
I would move to the city limits so I could vote for the proposal. I find it comical and sad that this State has option elections. There is no such thing as a dry territory in my opinion. I think it's more accurate to say "legal vs illegal" sales.
By the time 3 elections come around, the younger, under 40 set will have arrived, started voting and realizing what a backward town we have, and change some things.
I love it when the so called "upstanding" citizens of corbin are up in richmond or lexington, parked around to the side or back, loading down their cars with beer, wine, and liquor, and hope no one sees them before they leave. Yeah, they're our civic and religious leaders alright.
There's been an effort going since the by the drink thing was passed. We just have to wait for the right time to put it out there.
Basically, when a couple more national chainrs like Applebee's come in, and the Expo center is going and having events, then, we can bring it out. Even cronies like Gregory and his crew and all the holy rollers would have a hard time stopping it. The city would throw out the tax revenues these chain restaurants pay to the city, and it would be hard to say no to package sales when we're getting six figures every quarter from those restaurants and the locals as well, as a total of them all.
Yes, it's in the works, just waiting for the right election to bring it up.
