I agree with Mayor McBurney when he told me the tone on here is too mean. It seems like things are split into two groups, the Terrells on one side and everyone else on the other. this is a shame we should all get behind our legitimate elected and appointed leaders for the good of the town. me and the other girls were talking about this at little league the other night. just like the tourism members that voted against those little toy trains. they were just voting what was in their heart, but they get ripped here as though they are profiting in some way. this is awful. these are good people who serve on this board without gettin no money. I know each one of them and they are some of the best people around. and while I'm at it, Phil Gregory is a good and decent man. I don't know why so many of you on here put him down so much. those of us who live in corbin like him. that's why he gets the most votes. everyone I talk to is angry about the horrible things being said here about good people. we are praying that it will end.
So mayor McBurney told you this site is mean? I'll be sure and ask him about that next time I see him. So I guess Willard told you this after he reads all these posts. For him to tell you that, he had to have read them. That's what we want, for him to read them.
This town has always been split into two groups, sometimes 3 or 4. It's just that before, you never knew about the other groups. They had no voice. Now we do. Before, the one group that ran the city commission and all the committees, ran the show with no opposition. Now, they have some opposition, those of us here on this board.
The Tourism Committee members voted against the trains. They made their decision. They thought it was a right one. I did not. I was against their decision. I still am. But, I'll live with it till the next committee is formed. When Estep goes off the board of Tourism, things could change. If Tipton is appointed chairman, it won't change. If Suze, or any of the other members are appointed, things can change.
Yes these are good people. But, we all aren't pleased with their decisions and their performance. There's nothing wrong with that. Phil Gregory is a good and decent man, but that has nothing to do with his performance as a commissioner. He, or any other of the city leaders, has had someone to criticize them openly, as we can do on this board now.
You say people are angry, the people I talk to are energized about getting to voice their opinions now, and having a place to voice them.
You "girls" have your side, we have ours. Phil got the most votes last election, will he get them again.
I agree, this town has never had anyone or anything question the city or civic leaders. It's about time.
I don't know who you "girls" are, but you need to get out and talk to more people than your own little circle of friends. There are people in this town that doesn't like the status quo that you so loyally protect.
Your group and the clicks that run this town could be on the way out.
I agree with the poster two up. This town, like every other place in the country, has always been divided into at least two groups. The only difference now is that there is a public forum to discuss these issues. Everyone has been discussing them for years, just in different ways like over lunch, or in your circle of friends, or at your church. This forum has opened a door (over 5,000 posts!) that Corbin has never had. We are no more divided now than we ever have been, we are just talking much more openly than we ever have before. Communicating, coming up with ideas, criticizing when necessary, is all a part of progress. And that is what many of us want in Corbin - PROACTIVE PROGRESS!!
This message board has divided the town there can be no doubt. People who were once friends now do not speak. People outside of Corbin now laugh at our town. This site is mainly for the benefit of the Bob Terrell Sr. and his political agenda. What is his political agenda? It is any idea that he comes up with that is not readily grasped by city leaders. He and his son try to use this board to beat people into submission. That is not to say that all of their ideas are bad. Some are very good. The posters above who disagree about the negative aspects of this board would back Terrell to the grave regardless of the merit of the idea. The way this board is presently going is not good for Corbin. The administrator has even tried banning certain IP addresses to eliminate opposition. I wonder what the poster known as Banned IP would have to say on this topic? We will most likely never know. I am not sure if removing this message board is the answer or not. That seems sort of extreme. Maybe it could just use some physical therapy. Any suggestions on making it better wkugirl?
You sound like you have your facts backwards. The problems in this town come from a few people that oppose any ideas, no matter who they come from, if they are not their ideas. They will do anything to undermine progress if it is not their idea, project or under their control. They want all the credit for anything that goes on in this town, and if there is a threat of them getting some of their spotlight taken away, they will do all they can to make sure it fails.
You can see it in the faces of these individuals, and you can read it in some of these reply posts. Nibroc is a great axample. It is their's - not the citizens - and no one has a right to give any ideas or to comment. You see a positive idea or constructive criticism, and they get so defensive and childish, its almost like you just insulted their child. We have a few very insecure people in this town.
Those are the types of people dividing this town, not a silly message board.

I first suggest that you at least have a user name so we can figure out who you are (like we don't know). You think you know who I am, and that's OK with me. I haven't said anything on this board that I am ashamed of saying. You are part of the group that is so afraid of change that you will threaten, intimidate, do whatever, to try to shut people up. Just like you are trying to do to me with your posts. I still stand by the fact that our town has always been divided, just like the whole country, really no different. We just have more of a voice now in Corbin, even if we face intimidation for speaking up. This is not about people only backing the Terrell's. I do think they are a great resource for our community, but this is about wanting positive change in our area. That scares you for some reason, I'm not sure why.
We finally got the corbin status quo people backpedaling, and they seem worried. They're worried they may lose control, and if they lose control, they know the town could grow and prosper.
Tearing this town apart, no, it's the other way around. The people, the true people of corbin, are finally uniting and saying what they want to. People like Don Estep and Bruce Carpenter and the politicial faction that backs and pays their salaries, are the ones that are nervous here.
We see Estep's paper touting the republician candidates for any office, hoping to hang on to at least one office in the next election. When the politicians come home from Frankfort, Williamson and Neighbert, it will be interesting to see who they turn to.

No argument The NewsJournal is a pro Republican paper. Do you get equally upset over the only 2 state newspapers touting nothing but Democrats in their editorials?
I do. I really do. I get upset equally when they tout only democrats.
I'm in a labor union. Have been for years. I hate it when my labor union endorses anything when they don't ask for my vote. I call, write and email everyone I can in the union when this happens. Some folks are against labor unions all together. That's fine. But, I'm a member of one, and typically all republicians are against labor unions. But almost as many deomcrats are against them as well these days, because labor unions make politicians answer direct questions.
Republicians don't like regular, working middle class people having a say in anything. Its because they will make their decisions on their lives as they live them right now. Look at the News Journal, it's one of the most republician biased newspapers in the state, maybe even the southeast.
I can honestly say YES this message board is not good for Corbin. I think their are a few individuals who no matter what is posted get on to start a fight. I think there are people on this site who are totally against Corbin no matter what. They can't wait to see the City of Corbin and its people fail. Yes they are jealous little people.
My question to many who get on and post. Do you attend a church regularly. If so ask your pastor what he thinks about this site as a christian. I would like to hear each church give a response and tell what your pastor said. What happened to love they neighbor as thy self.
Think about it before you post next. Remember a sin is a sin, no matter if you steal, cheat, lie or kill. What is your tongue doing or better yet your fingers.

Thanks so much for giving us your views. It is important that our working people have an opportunity to speak up. In the past we did not have this way to communicate. Let's stand up against the effort to destroy this website. Again, thanks.
I have a question for the poster two above. Does Estep and Carpenter attend church regularly? If they do, are THEY tearing this town apart, are THEY not good for corbin? This goes both ways. Are THEIR actions detremental to corbin and it's progress. Are THEY doing what's right. Are THEIR antics a christian like attitude?
Lets ask THEIR pastors what they think about what they've said and done. Can THEY answer at the pearly gates on judgement day.
It is not the message board. In God's eyes, it is the person typing the message, their words, their motives, their actions and how they treat others. It is no different than any other form of communication, whether it be verbal, a newspaper, a typed memo, e-mail or any other. These individuals will spread their lies and self-serving agendas whether this board exists or not. Its not the message board. A lie is a lie, no matter how it is communicated. You talk about those who want to pick a fight, and as I've read many of these posts, I see your point. Someone began a great thread about "Walk Corbin" an some jerk turns it political, probably because it wasn't their idea. A woman from out of town posts a very polite complaint about her nibroc experience, and some jerk rips her apart, like nothing they are involved in can be improved or done better. There are some who don't care what is right in God's eyes or best for Corbin. I feel sorry for them. I also agree, before you post, spread a false rumor at the office, screw someone over for self glorification or commit any other stupid act, think about what God would want you to do. Corbin's progress would not be hindered if a couple of the so-called "Leaders" had any kind of conscience.
This Web Site is good for Corbin. Who wants to hear Cheerleaders all day? This site allows real issues to be discussed, even if some toes get stepped on occaisionally, including mine.
This website has generated more conversation about the politics and policies of corbin than anything I can remember.
My husband works at CSX and he says all the guys at the shop think the message boards are offensive and degrades our town. Everyone on here is so angry and mean toward our city leaders. The girls at little league that I talk to feel the same way. We have been praying it will end so that we can all come together again.
And I know some people at CSX who like the message board. The message board is just one segment of the website. It covers everything from Economic Development, tourism, transportation, location, energy availability, education, motels, restaurants, and even weather and news.
It is obvious you have never really gone thru this website to see all the things it provides. And nobody makes you read the message board. You have a right to your opinions and we have a right to ours.
Tell me, how does your husband and his friends feel about annexing CSX into the city of corbin.
What are their opinions, pro or con.
I just found out a few weeks ago, that the office building is supposed to be in the city limits. So, that should mean all the office jobs in that building, should have part of their occupational taxes come to corbin.
Seriously, how do they feel about the annexation issue.
Tearing Corbin apart, I see it the other way around.
This site gives ALL of corbin a voice. ALL OF CORBIN.
Not just the few special people, but everyone.
I hear about this site all over town, and believe me, I'm all over town every week.
More people are finding out about the way things work, who tries to control what goes on, who makes decisions, and so on and so forth.
And it's the people who vote. For example, the ones that voted in alcohol sales because they couldn't figure out why, in the 21st century, you couldn't buy a beer in the city of corbin, decided to get up and go vote for it, and they won. The church crowds that though they had it in the bag to vote it down, found out they aren't the majority in this town, that you can go to church, and worship god, and pray, and also drink a beer while watching a ballgame and you won't go to hell. That's just one example. Oh, and I use the alcohol sales example because it's the biggest thing to happen to corbin and this region in years.
This is the first time our city leaders and city commitee members have had to listen to comments from people that don't agree with them. They've never had this before in corbin. They always thought they spoke for everyone, but they found out they didn't.
Tearing us apart, no, sorry, this is just starting to bring us together.

I think that this site is LONG OVER DUE!! This is a good way to get the peoples opinions heard/read. Our voices are heard only to a deaf ear of society. They are kept silent in our minds and vented only to our family and friends. They go no where to 'exercise'!!
The, so called, "leader's" can't hear our wants, needs or complaints. They don't want to. If you say that they do then you tell me where are we to go to expel our feelings and marvelous ideas.. then you tell me who will truely be listening? Is there some sort of a suggestion box in town where we 'post a note' to the 'leaders' of our community? They only want their pay checks.
We can comment on the good and also on the bad after all, there is always good with the bad, we all know this but for some reason some that post on this site only are able to see through their rose colored glasses. There is bad out there......!
This site is a good thing to have. If THIS site, you feel, is tearing Corbin apart... get the band-Aid! If someone is simple enough to actually think that our opinions can 'tear apart Corbin'... MY GOSH! How simple minded some must be to not see the positive actions and reactions that we have verbal control over. We can get our thoughts and ideas out and then the 'leaders' can hopefully react and take all the credit for them. (they keep their jobs that way!) This is like a suggestion box in many ways. Use it, don't abuse it.
Keep up the good work on the site. Job well done and a great idea you had by creating it!
The last post is nonsense. I have lived here for over 15 years and the voice of the voters in Corbin has always been heard. How else was the restaurant referendum voted in? Why do you think that mayor McBurney got so many votes? And mayor pro-tem Gregory too for that matter? The people vote and their voices are heard.
