I didn't say he wasn't connected and not powerful. I just said the list is connected even higher up.

I think what one of the Posters saying is that some of the Folks listed have connections with the McConnel Team and other National connections, I think the poster is no doubt correct. The Mayor's family is also very connected at the same level, it's just not as public.

Even today folks who are related to the Mayor are Powerful players in the State & Federal Levels, it's just not public knowledge. Many of these people know how to operate in the Shadows and after 50-75 years of experience can get things done far out of the Public eye.

This is a Good topic and the names listed are certainly major players in today's Public Politics: Here is my quick list:

Everett Rains Family: Very connected in Whitley County and still has tremdous power, connected to other famililes and together they have formed alliances in the past and can still wield many votes.

Jerry Taylor Family: Despite the troubles Taylor has been in down through the years his family is still powerful in Whitley County.

Dick Vermillion Family: Still extremley powerful at several levels of Govrnment and are once again on the rise.

Barton Family: No Question the most Public of all and very connected. The interesting thing here is how intertwined some of the above folks are, you get the right combination of these folks for you and any office is possible to win. Get these folks against you and your in serious trouble.

These are families that can swing massive amounts of votes, don't be fooled they have the money to back it up also.

Just my thoughts, maybe right, maybe wrong.

The one good thing about most all of those families you list, and some families you didn't, is they and their extended families DO NOT live in the city limits. SO, they can't vote no matter what they do. Sure they can pressure their employees and friends, and pass the election cards at church, but that won't help. When Joe and Suzy Corbin Citizen go to the polls, most of them dont' know who any of those families area.

That's how we got the alcohol vote in, the in the city limits voters didn't know that the people you listed were against it.

But, wait, we have another issue coming up soon. The people you did list, are already speculating on property in the city limits for the new casino's coming in, so they can sell/lease it to the licensee's who win the lottery for a casino permit.

You'll see property along the bypass starting to sell now, as you can annex into the city any property that adjoins the bypass, then, you can build your casino.

Remember the Off Track Betting parlor. Remember the protests, the articles, all the crying and whining by the church goers in particular. You'd have thought the sky was falling. Then, the mayor, Williamson, said, "Hold on, there's some good to this, just wait and see". Then, behold, we got all 5 major road contracts approved, funded, and started the same year, by a democratic governor, just because we let them put the off track betting parlor in corbin.

The next mayor of corbin, he/she's going to be busy.

You are right. The poster must be confused or either does not understand the issues very well. Perhaps elderly or did not live in Corbin when OTB came to town.

That wouldn't work anyway.

I believe you are right. The word is out Bubba wants to be Mayor. I believe he will beat the Mayor with Bruce, Marlon and Don behind him. That would be a tight race. He does have contacts in HIGH PLACES AND VERY LOW PLACES and none of us should MAKE NOT MISTAKE ABOUT IT I promise you. I know what I am talking about YOU BETTER BELIEVE ME!
