Has anyone heard who might really be going to run for commissioner this time?

I have heard Gregory, Shelton, Farris, Lynch and Tye.

I hear the same thing as you. The four incumbents will run. Gregory, Shelton, Farris and Lynch. They will not be beat. Willard McBurney is the most popular Mayor that Corbin has had in years. He has told many people that he would like to have the same commissioners in office for the second half of his four year term. Rumor is that Vance and Barton are pushing Ed Tye to run.

Tye might could beat Lynch this time.

It was fluke that Lynch won in the first place.

I hear that Ed Tye is going to run too but I really think that he is wasting his time on this. Tye and Lynch were almost dead even last time but Lynch is now an incumbent.

Like their mentor Don Estep always says, "we want things to stay just the way they are".

We want to lose more jobs, and keep our mayor "in the dark".

Hopefully, we'll have enough candidates to file and at least cause a primary election. I hope Ed Tye runs, and Trae Pennington too.

The "X-director" group must think that Mayor McBurney and the Commissioners are too stupid to see things for themselves. I myself do not share that opinion of our city leaders. It is fairly obvious that the people who continually post adverse comments on this board are those who are not currently involved in the city structure of commissions, boards and committees. It is also noteworthy that when a small handfull of local people headed up to the Beshear bash the message board was virtually silent. Now they are back at home and burning up their keyboards to post messages that are critical of the people that are working hard for Corbin. Sour grapes must truly be hard to choke down. Nevertheless I anxiously await the prosperity that their leader with bring to Corbin with his influence over the new governor. Perhaps we will soon see results. Happy days are here again.

Interesting messages on here, and clearly defined. There are the well stated posts that think we can be a greater city, have some very good ideas, and offer some substance and facts. Then there are the name callers and excuse makers that won't actually discuss or debate their position because they can't.

While I've never seen anyone refer to the Mayor and commissioners as stupid, I have seen some great posts on here, with interesting facts to back up their ideas and concerns. I'm sure, or at least hope, that Corbin Government would agree with many of the comments (the more intelligent comments that is) that I've read on here, especially those relating to jobs in our area. I also agree, we can't wait for companies to come to us, we have to be creative and go after jobs of any kind. The "we don't need them" is what losers say when they are going down in defeat. Professionals are always trying to find creative ways how to improve and do things better, whether they are winning or losing. I can't imagine City Hall is happy or even content losing the Harley Davidson dealership, Pearson or any business to London, or any city for that matter. If City Hall is content, something is wrong. If our big highlight in getting jobs here is Applebee's and Walgreens, we are in trouble.

I would like to hear what is going on industry and job wise in our area. What day and time is the Industrial Board meeting? Are the minutes available online? I would also love to see a public debate among the Commission Board candidates next year with local economic development the main topic.

It also sounds like this poster is saying only a few people have the ability to offer educated opinions and comments. This might scare you, but we have a lot of smart, educated people out here who know what is going on, and we're not happy with it. I know many business people who read and post on here, and not only a select few are blessed with business smarts and common sense.

On a filal note, you have to dance with who you invited to the party, and you have to live with the results of their efforts also.

Don't agree? Debate the facts and win your arguement.

Maybe you can call the economic development director Bruce Carpenter and he can run the information out there to you. I think he knows where you live so it should not be any trouble.

I SUPPOSE I AM THE "X-DIRECTOR" YOU ARE REFERRING TO IN YOUR MESSAGE.  NO, I DON'T THINK THEY ARE STUPID.

I myself do not share that opinion of our city leaders.

IT IS YOUR RIGHT TO HAVE YOUR OWN OPINIONS. IT IS THE RIGHT OF OTHERS, INCLUDING ME, TO HAVE OUR OPINIONS.

It is fairly obvious that the people who continually post adverse comments on this board are those who are not currently involved in the city structure of commissions, boards and committees.

WHY IS THAT OBVIOUS TO YOU? I BELIEVE MANY PEOPLE WHO POST COMMENTS ON THIS MESSAGE BOARD WANT TO SEE OUR COMMUNITY BECOME BETTER, AND PROVIDE MORE JOBS AND A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE.  IT IS HEALTHY FOR PEOPLE IN A DEMOCRACY TO  DISCUSS KEY ISSUES AND TO HAVE A RIGHT TO SPEAK UP AND GIVE YOUR OPINIONS. YOU ARE DISRESPECTFUL OF THE MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE GUTS TO GIVE THEIR OPINIONS.

It is also noteworthy that when a small handfull of local people headed up to the Beshear bash the message board was virtually silent.

FIRST, THANKS FOR LOOKING AFTER THE MESSAGE BOARD WHEN SO MANY OF US WERE IN FRANKFORT TUESDAY.

THERE WERE A GOOD NUMBER OF PEOPLE FROM OUR AREA, INCLUDING SOME REPUBLICAN FRIENDS WHO WERE IN FRANKFORT TO HONOR OUR STATE AND NEW GOVERNOR. CORBIN HIGH SCHOOL'S BAND PERFORMED AND MANY OF THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS WERE THERE AS WELL.  I SAW AT LEAST 25 OTHER PEOPLE FROM OUR AREA.

Now they are back at home and burning up their keyboards to post messages that are critical of the people that are working hard for Corbin.

MY KEYBOARD IS NOT BURNING UP. IT HAS BEEN SITTING HERE COOLING OFF WHILE MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN IN LEXINGTON ENJOYING A NICE LUNCH AT MALONE'S.

Sour grapes must truly be hard to choke down. Nevertheless I anxiously await the prosperity that their leader with bring to Corbin with his influence over the new governor. Perhaps we will soon see results. Happy days are here again.

ACTUALLY, I LIKE ALL KINDS OF GRAPES EXCEPT SOUR ONES. I AM SURE THEY ARE HARD TO SWALLOW. BUT DID YOU KNOW WHAT I DETEST MUCH MORE THAN SOUR GRAPES?

APATHY. ARROGANCE. MEDIOCRITY. LACK OF EFFORT.  EXCUSES. A LACK OF URGENCY OR LACK OF EMPATHY FOR OTHERS. A DISREGARD FOR THOSE WHO NEED JOBS. TUNNEL VISION. BOSS HAWGS.

AND LASTLY, OUR NEW GOVERNOR HAS HIS HANDS FULL. THE GREAT FINANCIAL SHAPE FLETCHER SAID WE WERE IN WAS A MYTH.   GOVERNOR BESHEAR AND HIS ADMINISTRATION WILL HAVE A TOUGH TIME WITH JOBS LEAVING KENTUCKY, WITH THE HEALTH PROBLEMS FACED BY OUR PEOPLE, WITH MORTGAGES BEING DEFAULTED DAILY BY HOMEOWNERS, AND IN OUR AREA WITH FIVE KEY ROAD PROJECTS THAT WERE NOT COMPLETED UNDER MR. NIGHBERT'S TIME IN POWER.

IT WILL TAKE TIME BUT HAPPY DAYS ARE COMING AGAIN. BUT WE ARE THE ONES WHO MUST MAKE OUR OWN GOOD THINGS HAPPEN AND WE HAVE TO BE BOLD AND PROACTIVE TO DO IT.

MY RESPONSE TO THE PREVIOUS POST IS SHOWN ABOVE IN BOLD, BLACK, CAPITAL LETTERS!

BOB TERRELL, SR.

Yes I agree. It is always exciting to hear new candidates tell what they will do if they are elected. And the spash of color from the campaign signs adds so much to the landscape. During the last local election there was a lot of dead meat that filed and wasted their time and money. But that was good for the local sign printers and newspapers. Perhaps this year the candidate turnout will be just as good. Maybe the previous poster will even file.

By the way, if some of you are getting burned too bad on this board you might want to check in to getting some Remote IP Tracking software so you will know who your friends are when you see them.

I have never heard of such a thing.

The 2008 Commissioners race should be a big voter turnout since it is a Presidential election. In Corbin a big voter turnout always goes for the ones already in office.

I may be a big voter turnout this time. One thing is for sure, elections have a way of showing just who the voters want in office. In the 2006 city commissioner race the incumbents were elected by a large vote total over the challengers. I think this will be the case again. Regardless of the leftwing views of some of the  posters on this board it is clear that the local voters do not see it that way. This has been proven in recent elections. I think even the newest commissioner that came in fourth last time will really increase his vote total. People in Corbin want sound and responsible people in office and they currently have just that. I fully support the mayor and commissioners.

Tye has officially filed for commissioner.

Now it is five candidates running for four seats.

I read that too.

Now we need how many more to have a primary, 4 more. I know of one that is thinking of filing, if we can find 3 more, if that's how many it takes, maybe we can get rid of a couple of our present commissioners.

I doubt that anyone else will run. Last time all of the bar stools that ran were soundly defeated. There are four good commissioners in right now and they probably need to stay. Tye had his chance for years and years as a commissioner. He has been beat twice now and I doubt that he will win on the third go around. Tye is backed by Vance and although that will get him some free campaign signs it will end up hurting him when election day rolls around.

Ed Tye was about as solid as milk-toast! To bring him back as a commissioner would be not only a waste, but worse a step back from progression in our city. We need to go up the ladder, not take it down, examine it, think about it, forget we took it down, get called to put it back up, talk to some drunks about whether or not we should put it back up, decide to go and buy a new one, brag about how nice it is to have a new one, carry it around and ask if everyone likes the new one or the old one, and then finally after all this, just put it in the garage because there is just too many different opinions on the ladder issue to deal with having one at all.

The previous poster has spent too many hours on the bar stool.

That was tough to read.
