Post Info TOPIC: Commission meetings should start at 7 or 8pm or later.

Commission meetings should start at 7 or 8pm or later.

I believe the city commission meetings now start at 5 or 6pm, do they not.

I think they should change and start them at 7 or8pm, so everyone that want's to can come. Give people that have real jobs time to get off work, get the kids home or to practice or gymnastics or dance, and then back, eat a quick supper, and go to the meeting. Meet when it's convinent for the people you serve to attend, not for the convinence of the servers.

That's why Estep and company and the chamber meet during the day, they can all get off to attend. No one is ever there to challenge them.

I say change the times.

Give the people a chance to go.

I wish you would run for mayor, commissioner, tourism, chamber, industrial board or some real committee so you can see how things work. Maybe dog catcher!

The commission meets at 5:00 every 2nd Monday.

They also had meetings at 6:30 every 4th Monday.

This was when Amos Miller was mayor.

Nobody ever showed up except for the press.

Mayor McBurney stopped it.

It was just fodder for the newspapers.

Citizens showed they were not interested in coming.

You can't do a major change like that and expect people to just start participating. That's the way the city leaders think now, as well as the committee chairclowns. Why have a tourism or chamber meeting at noon, when no one can come.

You've got to do it for awhile, and show people you're going to change it, not just for awhile.

The city leaders run things for their convinence, not the people they serve. They tend to forget that, that THEY work for US.

THEY serve at OUR convinence.

That is a real good point. I agree with you. We need you on one of our Main Street committees. Unless maybe you are already on one of them.

They have a history lecture at noon when nobody can come except the speaker, the main street woman, some of the main street committee people, reporters, retired city leaders and a few bankers who eat at noon like clockwork every day.

I don't know about the rest of you, but pretty much the lunch standard for the majority of people throughout the world is sometime around noon. If its late afternoon or evening, I think they call it dinner. Since it is a LUNCH and Lecture series, it is a great time to hear a history lecture and have LUNCH. Since you haven't attended you really have no idea who attends, but the 3 luncheons I've attended there have been bank presidents such as John Wooley, city commissioners such as Phil Gregory and his wife, local business owners such as Paul and Shirley Jones, Ron Herd of the City Utilities, attorneys, doctors, and many others.

Maybe they should come mow your yard, check the oil in your car and pay your bills for you too.

It doesn't matter when they have these meetings, not many people are going to go. This topic was only started because someone is angry about not getting their driveway paved or funding for their plastic toy trains downtown or something. Meeting times have nothing to do with it.

Sure they won't go if things stay as they are.

Its best to have meetings durnig the day so people who are only serious can come and complain. If it was at night just anyone could come and give their opinion. Too many people like to complain just to hear themselves talk.

I just hope someone decides to run against these people. Is the mayor up for re-election too.

So far, all he's done is, well, what has he done. He's in the dark, we know that. He said so himself.

This is about as dumb a comment as I have seen. If you are on a board, please give up your position to someone who cares about the right things. If not, don't volunteer or run for a political position.

"If it was at night just anyone could come and give their opinion."

Is that a bad thing? Wow, what a bizarre comment. Do you actually think before you speak or type?

Just anyone? Shouldn't everyone be listened to, whether you think their idea is good or not?

People like you are the problem with this town.

I am sure you are important at the factory and need to stay there.

I'm an over the road truck driver and I'm only home on Sundays. So I think meetings should all be held on Sunday because that is what is most convenient for me. Oh, 7:30 a.m. is the best time. Thank you.

Sunday would be good for me too. It's the only day I really have free. Good idea.
