Expo Center funding question, how will we run it.

I know this was out some time ago in the papers, but, I don't recall the figures.

Will the Expo Center operation, the daily expenses, be funded with the restaurant tax money alone. Seems I remember that .75 of every dollar collected would go to run the expo center, with the other .25 going to the tourism committee for projects and events.

And, if we hire a management company, who pays them, or do we let them run it and they get a big percentage of any take on an event and concessions for their part.

I thought it strange this post had no replies. I thought even the most staunch supporter, and the most adamant slammer would have posted by now.

I guess this shows no one cares, or even more so, no one knows.

I think you are right. It looks like a lot of people have lost interest in this board.

Im not sure exactly how it will be run, or who is going to be over it, but if it is done like most things around here, its going to be a huge dissapoinment.

You would think something this big and with such pomp and circumstance in the begining, there would be more talk about it from the city. I hope for the sake of our community we do this thing right.

I agree. I think it shows that the problem is nobody knows and little is communicated about something like this which has great importance.

The fact that there are no replies to the above posts probably means that the citizens are satisfied that their elceted leaders have the situtation well in hand.

I agree. The city leaders are doing a great job. The other poster would complain about anything. There is no need for them to explain the details to you. Besides, it seems that when an announcement is made to the public our neighbors to the north swoop in to try to do some damage. Sometimes they succeed. I believe that Mayor McBurney is doing a great job in spite of the criticism that he gets on this board for not paying incentives or not intervening in police business or not spelling out the details of city business to his critics. We have very good city leaders. Now that this has been said it is time for the posters to reply saying how they think that Mayor McBurney is a great mayor and all. But then they will go right ahead and continue to complain about his administration and slam his decisions and hard work.

Criticism comes with politics, from the mayor of a small town all the way to D.C. Also, just because someone disagrees on a particular issue with a company president, CEO, or political leader doesn't mean they are not liked or respected. Your term "Slam" is a real stretch. I don't know where this attitude from a few of you comes from that you can't disagree about anything with a political leader. Willard is my favorite all-time Corbin Mayor, but does that mean I have to agree with every decision he makes? I think thats the way the laws rule in China or North Korea, but a couple of you seem to feel we need to function this way in Corbin, that having a differing opinion is a bad thing. In reality, it is what helps communities improve, having different ideas and finding what works best. Is Corbin the perfect community? We have our strenghts, but there is a lot we can do better. A couple of you would rather not hear that though, and those are the people that are holding this comunity back - the status-quo group.

Again, if not agreeing with 100% of city government's decisions makes me a bad person to a couple of you, too bad, that is the way the world works, like it or not. I'd rather say what I really feel than to be a sellout trying to score brownie points by simply agreeing with everything, which is all a couple of you are trying to do. We all remember working beside co-workers that kissed up the the boss, agreeing with everything they say - same thing. Its easy to agree all the time and some bosses toyally buy into it. I don't think Willard does, at least I hope not.

There are leaders that want people to tell them what they want to hear. Good leaders want people to tell them what they need to hear.

You must have a real problem with the mayor. You question his decisions and then say that he is your all time favorite mayor. That is really two faced.

You must have a real problem reading and comprehending entire sentences.

Answer the question. Does it state somewhere in the bible or constitutution that I've missed that if we like our elected officials that we have to agree with everything they say and do?

Do you ever disagree with your spouse or kids? When you disagree, does that mean you don't love and respect them, or does it mean you just disagree?

When you disagree, does that mean they are not really your all-time favorite spouse (you might not want to answer that one) or kids?

This is probably way over your head, but I though I'd give it a shot.

You are funny. Please reply with another off the topic gem such as "your probably not even married" "or "you probably don't go to church", or even better "No, my spouse and I agree on everything".

I'm staying neutral on this issue for now, until I find out who the city hires to run the Expo Center.

I've heard Bruce Carpenter is sucking up to the city commission and mayor for this job big time, and he's got The Forcht Group behind him pushing to hire him as well. They want to get it done before Fletcher goes out of office, for some more money.

If they hire a management company, the we'll know Carpenter is out of the running, and it may have a chance.

I know all of the city leaders see this website, so please do not put Carpenter in charge of the Expo Center! We need a outside company running this, not our Nibroc Leader. We have a excellent opportunity to have something respectable here and allowing him to run the show will be yet another disaster. Stop the buddy system, and do the right thing.

Speaking of running things, I have an idea about how to get more businesses to join the chamber. In the Times Tribune yesterday, it said our chamber was purchasing trailers to use to set up in different areas so people could join the chamber, etc. How about this? Instead of purchasing the trailers, how about going door to door to every business in Corbin and asking them to join the chamber. It's not like we are Lexington or Louisville, it wouldn't take that much time to hit every business in town. Take a week on the south side, the next week the north side, etc. It would also be a good public relations tool for the chamber, because you are out there meeting business people, telling them about the chamber, and encouraging them to join. Not everyone can attend meetings, we're too busy running our businesses on a day to day basis. The only person who has ever approached me about the chamber was Shirley Clark several years ago.

I'm told the chamber has grown quite a bit since then.
