Is Vangent (Pearson) leaving, and why?

I'd heard this for a few weeks.

They're leaving because they need a bigger building, and there are none around the corbin area.

What has the mayor and Carpenter been doing since this came out. They admitted in the paper they heard about it before today's article. Did they not make any calls. They are the kind of business that needs to be in our industrial park on the bypass. Why aren't they.

I know, they must have asked for an incentive, and since our esteemed city leaders and their committee chairpersons don't believe in any incentives, they just let it go and told Vangent they should stay here because they love us. Is that it.

If Carpenter lets this happen, then he needs to move back to london with them, and he can run their chicken festival.

Do you know how to tell when a company (or player, or team, or sponsor) is leaving, it's when they deny they're leaving the hardest.

We have very little in corbin as it is now, we can't afford to lose what little we do have.

Although, it won't hurt much, since corbin gets none of the occupational tax money from the Vangent people anyway. Maybe that's their lack of motivation, no knox county occupational tax money, so they don't care.

And our mayor was quoted as saying he was totally "in the dark" about all of it. That is concerning. Heck, I heard the rumors floating through town about it, from workers at Vangent and some of their relatives, but the mayor was "in the dark"? And, I'm just a lowly citizen, and I heard about it.

Thats newspaper talk. He knows about it, and has known about it.

If we are in the dark, would someone please step up and turn on the lights!

Speaking of losing jobs in the area, General Shale just laid off 20 more people this week. The production side of the plant closed down several weeks ago, but there is still a fabrication shop that employs several. That's where this lay off came from. Scary times in our community.

My cousin works at Vangent, and she said the management approached Carpenter months ago, and asked him to find them a larger building. She also said management contacted "local" government, and asked for their help. Apparently, they got no help from either of them.

Wasn't we supposed to have another spec building for the industrial park built? Wasn't this supposed to have happened months ago. There's no new buildings out there.

Isn't that Carpenter's job, and the city leaders as well, specifically the mayor?

What in the heck is our city government and the industrial development director doing with their time, NOTHING!!!!

If in fact Vangent does leave, it'll be interesting to hear who gets the blame.

Carpenter doesn't mind to spend his time lobbying for a couple of trailes to haul his nibroc trash around in, but, when it comes to having to do real work with local industry, where is he then?

If we let this company leave corbin, some heads need to roll, and start at the top. It would be different if they asked for our help, and we provided all we could, and then they turned us down. But for the mayor to say he was "In the dark", what does he do all day.

This is a real problem.

I think we need to fix the problem before damage is unrepairable. The economic development director position needs to be changed, and immediately. This position should be filled with a person who has the ability to make good business decisions and can speak intelligently with prospects. Here are some questions that would aid in making this decision:

1. How many new jobs have been created under the Carpenter Administration.

2. How many exisiting jobs have been lost under the Carpenter Administration.

4. How many businesses have moved to other counties/cities under the Carpenter Administration.

5. Why is the new Spec Building not being constructed?

This is simply five questions, all of which could give us a idea as to whether or not Mr. Carpenter is the right man for the job. How long must we keep going in the wrong direction before we make a change. I know Carpenter reads this site, if he is confident he is doing a good job, give us some answers.

Maybe you all are worrying about nothing. Vangent claims they are not leaving. Just read the newspaper.

As much as I hate London, losing Vangent wouldn't be much of a loss. Most of their jobs are temporary in nature, and the company has the highest turnover in the area.

You have got to be kidding? Not a big loss! What planet are you living on. This would be another devastating blow to Corbin. When you are employing over 200 people, a turnover rate is the price you pay to be a large business, but it still amounts to local jobs, and decent pay for this area. Corbin needs to rectify the occupational tax issue, but the way I see it, if certain economic directors would give off their rearends and offer a relocation incentive, maybe a savings in leasehold on a supposed new spec building, Corbin can benefit. I'm sorry, but you are bad wrong if you believe Vangent moving to london would not be a loss to Corbin.

Proud Corbin Boy speaks the truth but if you have knowledge in this area maybe you could work with the economic development director and take him under your wing.

Sorry, but I'm not a member of the fowl family, so I wouldnt be able to take the "edd" under my wing, however, if Proud Corbin Boy speaks the truth, maybe he would like to substantiate his statement on turnover and the positive effect it would have on Corbin if Vangent left in facts. If what he speaks you believe is the truth, then I have a suggestion on what you should have engraved on his tombstone:

HERE LIES THE BODY OF TRUTH, BECAUSE IT NEVER CAME OUT WHILE HE WAS AMONGST US.
